We had a really horrible experience here today with my 2 daughters. We went for a trial, as we were thinking of moving stables since this one is on our doorstep, but we were only 15 minutes into the level/experience test before I walked out of the facility with my kids. Jenn may be a passionate horse lover, but she isn't a kind person. One word: patronizing. The way she spoke to my daughter was so bad that I felt like I was watching MY 9 year old being bullied by an adult woman. She was using comparisons when riding / using reigns and pulling the horse to stop to being physically mistreated by a parent. It was shocking. My 7 year old, who was watching with me, turned and said "why is she so mean? I don't want to ride here!" I said we needed to end the lesson and my 9 year old was so shell shocked and scared by Jenn's 15 minutes of instruction she didn't want to move and come off the horse. I will continue to commute to Bedford for our lessons. I could never willingly put my kids in a situation where they may learn to ride, but more-so learn to bully and accept being verbally mistreated. Jenn, keep the $150 for the 15 minutes today. I'm sure you'll need it if you keep treating young children this way.

If I could give this barn more than 5 stars I would. The barn owners are the nicest people I've met…read moreand they make sure that the care of the horses comes first. I've switched up feed and medications and they always make sure that my horses are getting whatever is best for them. They're opening and welcoming to everyone, and the people who board here are all super nice. The barn culture is overwhelmingly friendly and everyone is always offering a helping hand. The horses are top priority, I've never even thought about moving my two anywhere else. Even as a young person, I don't think anything here is outdated or could be done in a updated manner, I spend hours at a time at the barn and I've never thought that the barn owners should change their ways - as I mentioned before the horses come first and they are all wonderfully cared for and loved. In addition there is a nice riding ring and a round pen on the property along with hours and hours worth of trails around the barn for trail riding. Some boarders complain of vet fees, though personally I've not had any sort of issues with the welfare of my animals. Maybe the reason other boarders have thousands of vet fees doesn't rest with the barn owners but their own ability to care for their horse. Also, there is no one here named Gary.

I wanted a straight-forward, well-kept, non-commercial farm, and you not only get that with Sugar Ridge, but I have also found a family with these ladies and the horses there. The grounds are gorgeous, with plenty of room to ride and options to suit each skillset. It's been amazing to learn more about these gorgeous animals, and it does a world of good just being around them. You can also tell how well-taken care of the horses are just by how affectionate they are with Carin; she does an absolutely incredible job with them and it shows. She is also an amazing instructor, and I couldn't imagine being taught by anyone else. (Nor would I want to!) I highly recommend Sugar Ridge, whether you've never been on a horse or have a lifetime of experience, Carin's training ability and versatility is unparalleled.
