I sampled five flavors and my top three were the Hibiscus Chili Punch, Summer Berries + Passion fruit, and the Watermelon Taffy. The staff member that helped us was very kind, informative, and enthusiastic. He was very open about the flavors and was not shy to tell us what might be too sweet. I wish we came earlier in the day because we got there 30 minutes before closing and they were already in the process of cleaning up. The store still had a super cute color theme going on and it was very clean. We sat at the window barstools while we finished out single scoop. One unique thing about Jeni's is that they serve each flavor by the half scoop, so one scoop automatically defaults to two different flavors! read more

When I heard they had a new Matcha flavor, I had to get my hands on it. I love their sweet cream flavor but they were out of it so I got 2 half scoops of it while my husband got a half scoop of Matchapolitan and Darkest chocolate each. I have to say as a matcha lover I am slightly disappointed because it was too sweet and mostly tasted like sweetened strawberry matcha latte with the matcha flavor pretty subdued. It's definitely a toss up of a question, but I think Jeni's has the best ice cream in the city. With a basic vanilla that hits that hard, everything else is bound to be good. I've been a regular at Jeni's for some time now. This location operates on a smaller plot of land for sure, but the line moves quickly, because of a super helpful, super friendly set of staff. Note, there's a good chance that you'll be eating your ice cream outside on the side walk, but honestly it won't be too long before it's gone anyways. Flavors are reliable and on-point. Prices have fluctuated for sure over the years, but if you're coming with a group, I'd recommend the Story, to be able to try as many of their excellent flavors as you can. Plus, it's cheaper per scoop than all other options. My only knock is that they used to be way more adventurous in the past than they are now. I remember way back when they had an everything bagel flavor... that literally was spot on. Like so much so that it was not a good ice cream flavor because it was too accurate. My husband got the 'Salted Peanut Butter' and 'Brown Butter Almond Brittle'. I did not try them but he really enjoyed them and it was nice to see him try something different. The sun was out to murder us. Philadelphia had become a convection oven and my wife and I were the rotisserie chickens. Then we saw Jeni's. The storefront glowed like a mirage in a desert made of asphalt and bad decisions. We stepped inside and were met with cool air and the smell of sugar trying to earn a living. Ice cream is not cheap here. Nearly seven dollars gets you what they call a "standard," which is two scoops just big enough to remind you what money used to be worth. Still, quality makes a compelling argument. My wife picked brambleberry crisp and Gooey Butter Cake. The Gooey Butter Cake was a mystery at first. I tried it and at first tasted nearly nothing. Then, just as I gave up, came the delayed arrival of butter. It was like a telegram from an earlier time, slow but sincere. The brambleberry crisp was better. The vanilla base had layers of oat streusel and fruit jam that actually tasted like fruit, not the artificial pinkish-purple concoctions you usually find in these things. I tried to build my own peanut butter and jelly combo. I paired brambleberry crisp with salted peanut butter with chocolate flecks. This was the smart move of the day. The peanut butter was bold. It was confident. It was so creamy I considered writing it a thank you note. With the tart fruit of the brambleberry beside it, the two flavors shook hands and became greater than the sum of their parts on my tongue. Service was quick. The staff looked like they had not yet been broken by the heat or humanity. The store was clean and smelled like optimism and waffles. Jeni's is not a place to go every day unless you have a trust fund or no concept of budgeting. Inside the store, there's ice cream tubs for sale and a preview of their many flavors. I appreciated being able to have tasting spoons before committing to a particular set of scoops. This review is more from personal taste preference, but I felt that the ice cream was way too sweet and overpowered my taste buds. While the rotating flavor in Tropical Bloom had a good peach palette, even the Double Dough tasted too sweet for my liking. I did like that they provided a small waffle piece, which made for a good scoop when the ice cream started melting. As of April 2025, it also looked like they no longer provide a partnership with Pure Barre on a free scoop upgrade. It is a small space where there is only a tiny bar area where few customers can hang out and eat. The service was fairly quick, friendly, and helpful. I really enjoyed their dairy free lemon bar. The day that I went in, there were three servers and they gave great service. If you want to taste test any of the flavors they give you a small metal spoon to try them out. They had a host of very unique flavors and they had a number without dairy as well, which was helpful for one of my friends. I got the Brambleberry Crisp, which had oven-toasted oat streusel, a sweet-tart brambleberry jam of blackberries and black currants, and vanilla ice cream. When I tell you... It. Was. So. Good!!! Absolutely amazing. Perfectly creamy and fruity. I could not believe what I was eating! And as I was walking down the sidewalk back to my car, I was angry with myself for not buying a pint. I got to know about this place on my trip to Philly. The reason why I wanted to try was that many reviews mentioned about their vegan/diary free options. There was a huge line until the entrance and the only diary free options were Texas sheet cake and a lemon flavored ice cream. I don't like lemony or sour desserts so naturally I opted for the Texas one. It was nothing extra ordinary and the scoops are the tiniest I ever got in any ice cream place (which was ok for me as I had a heavy dinner prior to having ice cream). But for the quantity, it's over priced. I would have still rated them higher if the ice cream was yummy. cute little shop with friendly staff! the standard two scoops in a waffle cone was on the expensive side, coming out to about $8. i wish they had a smaller (and cheaper size) because the standard is honestly a lot. i have never been able to finish the full cone, it's just too sweet. i also wish they had more flavors. the flavors they do have are solid, but new flavors would add to the excitement. overall, great ice cream spot with consistently delicious ice cream. the store is also open until pretty late at night, which makes it perfect for a post-dinner treat. read more

I've never seen a bad customer service lately until today. I was planning to grab several pints of holiday flavored ice cream, but I wanted to try a sample first. I was visiting Philly earlier this week and a friend said that Jeni's was a must visit so we walked a few blocks from their apartment and made our way into Jeni's. It was pretty crazy because we were a good 10 minute walk away from Jeni's but basically every other pedestrian who passed us in the neighborhood was eating Jeni's ice cream. When I got there on a Monday night, the line was pretty long which was a great sign for me since it's almost winter, it's an unpopular day and this place is still doing great business. I ordered a single for which you get two scoops haha, and I chose the peanut butter flavor as well as their staple almond brittle. Both flavors were UNBELIEVABLE. I absolutely loved this ice cream, it was some of the best I've had, every bite was so good I would kill to have this near my apartment in Minnesota. Only downside is that it's pretty pricey.
