It has old school decor and mementos on the walls, and they still offer all their ice cream flavors, just like their original location, but limited in other ice cream products/snack items. For the price, it wasn't anything special and for the peach scoop I had, it's lacking in that peach flavor/inclusions. I'll say I get the hype to an extent. But the experience itself may not be entirely worth it. It's a cute place, historic vibe. And maybe that's why you wait so long, as if it were 1776. The prices certainly wouldn't fit 1776 and were a bit higher than I would expect for what it is. And (while this may only bother me) walking along this line there is SO SO much branding for purchase that left a bit of a sour taste. The flavors we tried/got were nice. It's decent ice cream. This place is so cute! I was sad for the employees, it seemed like the AC must have been broken, which was terrible; please fix it and take care of them!! This is an old ice cream shop that I think has been around for years (or just looks like a traditional ice cream parlour). In any case - the servers were working fast because there was quite a line but they were very friendly and the ice cream was great! We ate our ice cream while walking though just since the place wasn't that big and a lot of people were already inside. Long time fan of Franklin Fountain. We were in Philly visiting but the line was so long for the OG place. We turned the corner and saw this new (to us) ice cream bar with virtually 0 line. Joined it not knowing it was an actual custom ice cream bar hole in the wall but was a fun surprise. This is a hidden gem/life hack! You can get the same hard ice cream here without the wait at FF and you can also get an ice cream bar custom to your liking if you choose. My GF got the hard ice cream in a cone and I got one of the ice cream bars. The bar is $14 which is a hefty sum for an ice cream bar in my opinion. It was thicc and heavy though and incredibly decadent. The keystone shape was cute. I got vanilla with milk chocolate coating and hydrox cookie crumble. Absolutely could not finish the entire bar because of size and also the richness. Was delicious but i wish they had a mini version. They accept card which is nice! read more

Pssst! Shhhh! This place serves the exact same thing as the Franklin Fountain a few doors down, but without the line. They also take credit cards, something that the other place does not do as well. Sometimes the line for the main one stretches down to this one. There was only one party ahead of us when we were there on a Monday afternoon. Yes it is expensive, but it is good and keep in mind you are in a tourist area. An ice cream bar is $12, but I got the coffee bar which was in the fridge pre-made for a little less. It was very good and had coffee ice cream coated with chocolate. My daughter got a bar made from scratch and you get to pick the ice cream, dip, and up to 3 toppings. The selection is good and the product is high quality. They also have shakes which were good as well and fully customizable. Hydrox ice cream has huge chunks of cookie mixed into a delicious vanilla ice cream. Upgrade to waffle cone is worth it, the bottom 3 inches does not have ice cream stuffed into it so you get to enjoy an unadulterated crunchy cone. There was a huge line on a Sunday evening, not sure if this is the norm but it was a 15-20 minute wait following order placing to receive it. Instead of waiting in a long line at the corner shop, go 2 doors left for the same ice cream for a shorter wait! The interior has the old fashioned creamery theme, with servers dressed to match. Ice cream is served in mini Chinese takeout containers. I ordered honeycomb and creme de Lafayette. The honeycomb was milky and sweet with real honey. The creme de lafayette had berry swirls in it and was definitely like a better version of the blueberry ice cream. Two scoops was a substantial snack for 2 people because it is rich. I attended the grand opening of Franklin Ice Cream Bar with fellow co-workers and was pleasantly surprised by the Berley brothers' new business. Brought to you by the same family as Franklin Fountain and Shane's Confectionery next door, this establishment boasts a similar vintage feel and delicious frozen desserts. They sell heavenly thick custard, boxes of Franklin Fountain (FF) ice cream, select ice cream toppings, scoops of select FF ice creams, milk shakes, and, of course the namesake, custom-built ice cream bars. You choose the bar you want (dipped in milk or dark chocolate), the drizzle, and the toppings. The bars are served in a paper bowl with a spoon (trust me, if your bar falls apart early you will thank them for their forethought). The bars are a bit steeply priced at $8, but it's not surprising considering prices at FF. Talking to one of the Berleys brothers, I learned they wanted to open this place to help offset traffic at FF, where lines get monstrous on weekend nights and holidays. Unlike Shane's and FF, the ICB is only open after 5PM on weekdays and open most of the afternoon and night on weekends. The hours are a total bummer to folks like me who work in the area and would love a midday dessert treat (seriously, their custard is amazing...I want it daily at 2 PM please). He also mentioned a new feature of their 3 businesses is the boxed ice cream available in ICB's freezer. Don't wanna wait in line for ice cream at FF? Wanna take a pint home for your freezer? I was a big fan of Franklin Ice Cream Bar after my first visit there. As a major FYI, this seems like a great stop when the line of the original Franklin ice cream is out of the door. Although you can't get all of the flavors here, you can get a majority of their most popular flavors not in bar shape without having to wait as long. They also have a take out fridge section with lots of their bars and ice cream flavors packed and ready to take. I ordered a vanilla flavored ice cream bar, dipped in dark chocolate with almonds and sprinkles on top. The bars are shaped like a keystone, so it's a really cute way to represent PA. You get to choose your ice cream flavor. They actually have a lot of unique options besides chocolate and vanilla, like Meyer lemon and pumpkin. Then you can dip the ice cream in milk or dark chocolate. You can then add up to three toppings for free. Overall, it tasted great! My only negative (similar to all ice cream at Franklin) is that it is pretty pricey. One bar is $8. read more

Still the same delicious homemade ice cream as always, everything locally sourced and made from scratch. It's still CASH ONLY but the atmosphere is just as historically charming as you'd hope. ATM located inside. The Franklin Ice Cream bar offers most of the flavors in scoops/cup form that the fountain offers, minus some obscure ones like rum raisin. They don't do most of the sundaes except for the hot fudge sundae. Instead, their main new offerings include totally customizable ice cream bars that they dip in chocolate (milk or dark) and toss with a wide array of toppings from cookie crumbs to nuts-- READ: ice cream on a STICK!!! They also offer frozen custard with the option of getting it dipped in chocolate too. Aside from that, the wall towards the register is lined with freezers with ready-to-go pints and ice cream bars. It may be hard to believe, but the space is even tinier than the fountain next door. I was in line for ice cream at the original location but was enticed by one of the workers inviting us to the soft opening. This is a great idea and well executed! This is basically the best option for people who just want to get in and out with their ice cream - there are ice cream bars, a limited range of flavors for scoops, milkshakes and custard. If you don't need a big sundae or a specific flavor- come here instead of waiting in line.
