The office is beautiful, super efficient, and everyone is so kind. I barely had to wait, which is rare these days. But Tarin?? She is AMAZING. So sweet, so smart, and actually listens to you (which matters SO much). She explained everything in a way that made sense, gave me a plan that was easy to follow, and made me feel so comfortable the entire time. And the results... already seeing SUCH a difference in my skin, especially on my forehead. I'm actually excited about my skin again!! You can tell she genuinely cares and is passionate about helping people feel confident. I trust her completely. I've literally been telling everyone about her -- friends, family, random people LOL. If you're struggling with your skin or just want someone who actually gets it and will help you -- go to Tarin. Period. Also, the facility was very clean, and there were plenty of staff working, so there were no wait times for check-in or check-out. The office runs very efficiently. I was truly in and out! Every single staff member I spoke to greeted me with a warm smile, which I deeply appreciated! Also, I really loved the website booking option with Tarin, which made it super easy and efficient.

I initially went to Sonterra Dermatology because I was suffering from severe, persistent hives and an extremely itchy rash that had become unbearable. At my first visit, the physician assistant performed a skin biopsy and diagnosed me with contact dermatitis. When my symptoms continued, I returned and saw Dr. Matthew Malan. The appointment was very brief, and he recommended patch testing. I scheduled the test, but when I arrived for my appointment, I sat in the office for 30-40 minutes before being told they had accidentally used the patch test that had been set aside for me on another patient. They apologized and told me they would have to order another one, delaying my testing by another week. When you're dealing with relentless itching, hives, and sleepless nights, that kind of delay feels overwhelming. The following week, I returned for the patch test. Before applying the patches, the nurse commented that my back was already very inflamed. Despite that, the test was still administered. When I returned for my final reading, Dr. Malan immediately said the results were difficult to interpret because my back was so irritated. Then, almost as an afterthought, he said he thought I was allergic to nickel. He told me that a nickel allergy was "the worst thing in the world" because nickel is everywhere and compared living with it to "walking through a jungle of poison ivy" for the rest of my life. When I asked if there was any treatment or medication that could help, I was told there really wasn't anything I could do other than buy a nickel test online and check everything around me. I left that appointment feeling discouraged and hopeless. Thankfully, I sought a second opinion. My concierge physician performed a thorough medical evaluation, including blood work to rule out underlying conditions. Everything came back normal, and she diagnosed me with urticaria and referred me to an allergist. The allergist ultimately diagnosed me with Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria (CSU), confirming that my hives were not caused by a nickel allergy. What disappointed me most wasn't simply that the initial diagnosis turned out to be incorrect--medicine isn't perfect, and diagnoses can evolve. It was the overall experience: the scheduling mistake, performing a patch test despite my back already being significantly inflamed, the lack of discussion about the limitations of the test under those conditions, and leaving the appointment feeling frightened rather than supported. I hope this feedback encourages greater attention to patient care, communication, and ensuring diagnostic testing is performed under appropriate conditions. Patients who are suffering deserve to feel heard, informed, and given confidence that every effort is being made to reach the correct diagnosis.

Dr Bucay was recommended to me by my esthetician after a sudden onset skin issue was still afffecting my face after seeing another Dermatologist in the Stone Oak area. After an extremely brutal outing in the sun using a new sunblock lotion that was recommended due to its ability to block excess sweating, I began having a "breakout" of sorts over the next several days. Instead of clearing up, it continued in other areas but the original spots didn't completely heal! At the ripe old age of 58 you can imagine my shock as to what was happening with my face. I lived my whole life thru my teens, pregnancies & menopause unscathed by acne breakouts (with the exception of an occasional pimple every 10years)! After visiting a different Dermatologist, I showed him pictures at every stage of the breakouts incldg what happened with my eyebrows from onset to when they became "holes" & how they looked when "healed"! He ran a myriad of tests & prescribed me numerous creams etc, but nothing worked. His response was it was caused by me picking my face! I told him I hadn't nor had I ever picked at my face &!I wasn't a teenager! I couldn't believe that was his diagnosis. Mind you, I had actual crater-like "holes" that took forever to close but left behind the hole in my skin! Tweezing my eyebrows even caused inflammation from where the hair was removed & created holes/gaps in my brows in the spots where the hair was plucked out! After waiting 2yrs for my forehead botox, i decided to risk it & attempt it again. I explained the situation to my esthetician & showed her the photos to see if she had seen this before or had any suggestions. She hadn't but referred me to Dr Vivian Bucay for a 2nd opinion. Although, the wait time for an initial appointment was 6 mos., they were able to see me sooner due to a cancellation & the timing was perfect due to a breakout at that time. She looked thru all my pics, took pics of her own, ran addl tests & 1. Agreed it wasn't caused by me picking my face. 2. Felt is was more viral & wrote up a complete plan, incldg what to use & NOT to use in my skin care repertoire. Sked a followup in 6 weeks & when I returned, she saw a completely different person! I have been walking on air & singing her praises to everyone & anyone I know! She listened, didn't make assumptions, came up with a plan & solved the issue. Almost 1 yr later, my face hasn't had any addl breakouts & the "holes" have almost all completely healed & filled in. I am getting my smooth face back & so very very very thankful to my esthetician for referring me to Dr Vivian Bucay who saved my face & made it possible for me to go out in public again!!!! Her office & staff are the best. I can only imagine that the Hardy Oak office is just as good & the Dr's there are just as amazing as Dr Bucay! I highly highly highly recommend either office for all your dermatological needs!
