I went searching for a solution to my life long skin issues. Before I found Desiree I never ever had clear skin. I also had never had a facial for fear of what it would do to my already sensitive damaged skin but at this point I had to do something. And, review number three to update the saga that is my having attempted to get a facial from Desiree. I just received a very angry phone call from Desiree who was upset at both of my reviews on here. I verified with her that none of the information in the reviews I posted was incorrect. She admitted that after I reached out to her to set up a new appointment for this month (through Yelp messenger and text), she ignored it (despite her earlier representation that she would do WHATEVER it would take to make it right). According to Desiree, she should have decided when the timing of that "make-up" appointment was to take place. I presume she meant she should have been able to give me a facial late last year when she missed our appointment. When I said to her that the customer should decide when a service-provider's misstep should be made up (ESPECIALLY since I live 2.5 hours away), she balked. I guess she thought she should be able to dictate the when of making up her missed appointment with me? She did say she just didn't want to give me a facial this month (certainly her prerogative. It's her business, I guess, and she can decline whomever she wants). She said that the initial missed appointment was a misunderstanding (which I don't deny, and I don't think I have said otherwise). She was upset that I am reviewing on the failure to keep (and now make) and appointment as opposed to the actual service. I would have LOVED to review the actual service, but have now been denied the opportunity to do so. Last thing. Desiree did seem very upset over OTHER personal things going on in her life, which seem like legitimate health issues of a loved one. For that, I am TRULY regretful that she is going through that. I know life gets stressful. But calling a potential customer who you've disappointed TWICE (THREE times now with this call) is NOT the way to resolve everything else going on in your life. She ended the call with "bless you," which I am almost sure she didn't mean. Clearly, she called to berate me. And it's fine. I've been there...where life totally is not going your way and you just need to vent. After reading all the fantastic reviews written about Desiree's spa, I decided to finally schedule an appointment for one of her legendary facials. My appointment was yesterday evening and I was her last client for the day. I was extremely delighted to meet her at long last, since she has the most wonderful personality; we got along so well and she's great to talk to during your facial! Aside from being a great conversationalist, Desiree seems to take great passion in the work she does and is a treasure trove of information regarding skin care (and cool places to visit in San antonio!). She asked me about my skin type along with the products I currently use and made suggestions as to how I can tweak my routine to improve my skin. The facial was extremely relaxing and what I think was a lymphatic massage, felt amazing. It truly felt like I was treating myself and doing something great for my skin! I cannot get over how smooth my skin is! I have had 3 facials with Desiree and learned something new about my skin each time. I have rosacea (triggered by stress and extreme hot and cold temperatures) resulting in facial redness, sensitivity to certain skincare ingredients, and small itchy blisters on my cheeks which take anywhere from an hour to several days to heal. After my first facial, I was recommended items from the brand Dermalogica. Since my second facial with Desiree in late January 2018, I had been following a skincare routine that included double cleansing with my recommended cleanser, exfoliating a few times a week with Microfoliant and then toning with a calming facial mist and moisturizing to ensure my skin is properly hydrated. In my opinion, if you take the time to consult with her regarding your skincare concerns and begin to implement her recommendations with consistency, your skin WILL thank you! My mom sometimes flies in from Miami. Whenever she's in town we make it a point to get facials together before we go shopping. It's a great way to usher in a self-care, #treatyourself weekend. We always leave feeling relaxed and refreshed. On this particular visit I had been incorporating a nicaninamide serum into my routine to help restore my skin's protective barrier.
