His skill with creating beautiful pictures is amazing. I felt beautiful when I saw my pictures both retouched up and untouched. I saw some of his engagement and wedding photo portfolio. We wanted to take engagement photos but weren't sure about which photographer to choose. On a whim, we called Michael Sackett after finding him on The Knot. He was very easy to talk to, explained things very well, and had an opening. I visited him in his Troy studio to confirm I made the right decision in choosing him to shoot our engagement portraits and I was not disappointed. Michael's studio in Troy is comfortable, quirky, and fun. Located in an old church, he has a beautiful display of his work for his clients to peruse. Being an Indian bride whose family really wanted a photographer with experience with our culture, I practically drooled over the huge print of the Indian couple right outside his studio door. We discussed locations and decided on a few. He was relaxed with the payment process and was always available for me to call and email (maybe more than he would have liked, what can I say? I'm a nervous bride). We arrived yesterday to take our portraits not sure what to expect. For some reason, I thought I would be extremely comfortable with the process. Instead of being some starlet in front of the camera, I froze. I was very stiff and so was my fiance in several photographs but Michael eased us into it and asked us to just behave together as we normally would. I was nervous about how I looked but he reassured me that everything would turn out great. By the time we got to our second location, we were much more relaxed and calm and when I saw the sneak preview of our photographs today, we looked naturally blissful. The whole experience was amazing and easy. I am a control freak but I was happy to let go of control with Michael because from the beginning of our appointment to the end of our session, there was trust there between the three of us. I can't wait to see our engagement portraits and hope to use him as our wedding photographer (fingers crossed).

When I became engaged to my husband, there was no question who I would ask to be our wedding photographer - I had seen her phenomenal work throughout the years and wouldn't trust my big day with anyone else. Julie did not disappoint. She even flew out to Washington DC to take our engagement pictures (on a weekend it reached 90+ degrees nonetheless) and captured some amazing shots. She really has a sense of the best angles to take with each setting and directs you in a way that still looks completely natural in the pictures. The pictures from our wedding were even more fabulous. We did a photo shoot at my parents' house, an urban shoot in downtown Detroit and Belle Isle, and of course more at the ceremony/reception venue. We have fantastic shots from each of the photo shoots, and had a terribly hard time choosing which to put in an album out of all the pictures we had (it literally took us over a year to select all the pictures!). All around, Julie's photos are gorgeous - I'm so glad we didn't look anywhere else for a wedding photographer! Not only are the pictures great, but she is wonderful to work with; very easy going, flexible, but also has some great suggestions based on her experience. She also does great portraits - we did a photo shoot of our dog (yes, we are THOSE kind of people) and I can't tell you how cute our baby looks (and I also can't tell you how Julie worked her magic and got her to stay still - every picture we have taken of her ourselves is a blurry mess!). They had warned us ahead of time that some of the things they asked us to do would seem weird, but would look cool after the fact, and they were right. Honestly, I had a really good time just chatting and hanging out with them in between shoots and whatnot, which is just an added bonus on top of the amazing job they did. Julie also took some photos of our dog. I wasn't so sure how well that would go: she's a fidgety little thing and unless she's sleeping, I've never got a photo of her that wasn't blurry. Katie was beyond our expectations! We were told that she is starting her photography career, so we weren't quite sure what to expect. We saw some of her work with family photography and immediately saw the potential. She arrived the day before the wedding and what a breath of fresh air. There was no pretentiousness, no "Well, I wouldn't do it that way" attitude. Instead, she listened to what we were looking for in a photographer, asked some questions to dig deeper in some areas (i.e. important family / friend photos, dancing photos, etc.), and then got a feel for the flow of the event (as it was really an all-day affair). The next day, she showed up early and was ready to rock. She did a phenomenal job of meandering throughout the crowd to get shots that we'll cherish for a lifetime. The wedding was at a lake-side resort in Northern Michigan (Chimney Corners, Frankfort) and Katie used her expertise to incorporate the lake and rustic surroundings. One minute she'd be taking a photo of our family, the next she'd be laying flat on the ground to get the perfect shot of our friends. At one point, she was laying in the middle of M-22 (a lovely road that winds through Northwest Michigan) to get a priceless shot of us walking down the road. We escaped the party and did a more private photo shoot with the bride/groom, leveraging the rustic exploits of the resort. She was never pushy. She knew where the good shots would be. She was always asking us for any feedback. It was reassuring to know we had a budding photography wizard at the helm. Wedding photography really comes down to one thing - the end product! It was delivered to us in LESS THAN THREE WEEKS! We plugged the thumb drive into our computer upon receipt and were immediately whisked back to our wedding day. The quality was immaculate. The photos looked like they were ready to be printed. She already touched them up, picked out the best photos, and provided them to us for immediate use. She even gave us good advice on what companies to use for printing photos for us and our families. I met Rosy through a friend and when I was looking for amazing photographers for my daughter's 1st birthday, our mutual friend recommended her. I booked the shoot during a blizzard but Rosy was there and excited to do our shoot. Her studio gives off a fun, retro vibe and exudes Rosy's crisp, clean photography style. My daughter was TERRIBLE during this 30 minute shoot. I thought the pictures would come out blurry due to her all-out craziness but when I got the proofs I was blown away. Rosy not only managed to capture beautiful pictures of my baby girl, but pictures that capture her personality. I don't know how she worked her magic to get these amazing shots but she moved around with my daughter and honored the craziness that comes with a toddler, which I was so grateful for. I have most recently done a family photo shoot that also included a few engagement pictures at the DIA. Rosy knew exactly what style I was going for and knew where to take us to get the best shots. We now have a 1 year old and a 4 year old but she again managed to snap the perfect shots between toddler melt downs and run offs. We selected one of the hottest and humid days of May but our pictures are nothing short of magazine worthy and again, capture our family's personality and bond. With my fiance living several thousand miles away, we had set up a week and a half of all-wedding madness with appointments around the clock including one with Silver Lights Studio who had been recommended to us by some friends. Setting up the appointment was easy. Rosy and Shaun are located quite a while away from us in Allen Park but we arrived to a cute studio with vintage touches and bright accents - it's a happy place. We discussed our needs, our expectations, pricing and everything included in their packages. I'll be the first one admit that I am not an easy person to please but impressing my Dad is even more than a challenge. He's extremely quiet and doesn't seem to express his opinion but he liked their drive and their creativity, the brightness of the colors and their all around-fun attitude. Their albums are of high quality, their hourly rates are fair and they're okay with shooting outside of their 'quirky fun' style - they're flexible and open to ideas. After weighing our options, we signed on the dotted line. We took our engagement photos with them a few weeks ago at the DIA which is of particular interest to me. We took photos outside and inside and both Rosy and Shaun came along with plenty of ideas for our shoot (which we were happy to give a 'yay' or 'nay' to) and the open-mindedness to take a few photos in areas we had in mind (like in front of the Diego Rivera mural which is a personal favorite of mine). Although we were somewhat stiff at times they made us feel relaxed and open and we ended up having a lot of fun. They're a new studio and always so busy with clients but they take the time to address my concerns, answer my questions and take notes on my ideas even though my wedding is next year. I was never waiting on anything. The turn around time for photos was unexpectedly quick! It was an amazing surprise to see them done in such a fast timeframe. During the shoot, I had to nurse my newborn son multiple times while my toddler was being a little crazy. There was never a time where we felt rushed or a nuisance. We will for sure be back. Not a problem for Sarah! She rolled with it and was able to get "individual" shots of her by working the angle of her camera and having me hold her on my hip!
