Dr Albus is the best dentist! He does a thorough exam with a great staff in spa-like facilities. He's nice, warm, and funny. The others there at Toluca Lake Dentistry are all great, too. I get my cleanings done here and all the hygenists are great. I really liked Jenny, but everyone who has done work on me has done a good job and no one has made me cry. I had to have some dental work done today that involved anesthesia. Half my face is numb, but it's finally starting to wear off. They have the most up-to-date technology including digital x-rays and monitors (for TV or to see your own x-ray) at the foot of every chair. You can watch TV while getting your teeth cleaned! Dr Albus is known as the dentist to the stars, because of his high-profile clientele and close proximity to the studios. I'm not a star, but I feel like one whenever I go! read more

If dentists' offices were the kids that played the brothers on Home Improvement, Toluca Lake Dentistry would totally be JTT. Seriously, fabulous dentist experience. Top notch equipment and people! First time, went in with a broken tooth (at the ripe old age of 22...floss much?) about which I was a bit nervous/embarrassed. But the whole staff made me feel totally at ease about the sitch. Now I chew happily! No more fear of crunchy snacks! Went back for a cleaning and to be honest, am kind of psyched about going again. Is that sick? I think it's because they polish your teeth with this tool that feels like a sandblaster and it feels...awesome. Every inch of the office is spotless. And every chair is equipped with a flat-screen TV, so you can watch Judge Joe Brown or whatever trashy daytime programming you prefer. Dr. Albus is such a cool dude, if a bit rambling (he talked to me about his celeb teeth encounters [Sandra Bullock and Tim Allen among others] in a roundabout matter for possibly 20 minutes) Parking is no prob, plenty of no-meter two-hour street parking on Riverside. This is how medical care is supposed to be. Non-terrifying, non-threatening, plenty of Al Roker. Enjoy! read more

The great: Jerry Albus is a sweet older gentleman who is skilled and knows his stuff. I have to agree with other reviewer's descriptions of his rambling conversations but it is always amusing and if I have to be at the dentist then might as well be amused right? He has filled some gaps in my teeth beautifully. The wonderful Gita keeps my teeth clean and sparkly twice a year and always remembers the most random details of our previous conversations which feels like a great personal touch. She even sent a handwritten letter reminding me of my next appointment with a nice note. These people are genuine. The lame: Sometimes the wait to see Dr Albus can get kind of long. Don't book on your lunch hour thinking you'd get back to work at a reasonable time. As for the front receptionists they seem like your typical high maintenance looking aging rich housewives who are bored at home so thus keep a job as a "hobby". Be sure to keep a very close eye on your billing as the billing dept is completely clueless and sloppy. Not applying my insurance discounts correctly, not even billing my insurance company and billing me instead, etc etc. I've called a handful of times to correct mistakes. I can deal with the fake office staff and bill watching (hey it ain't rocket science) for the great work and friendly dental hygienists, assistants, and dentist. It's hard to find a doctor you like so I'm stickin' with him. read more

And as the poster jon p said...they are pretty fake people in the office. Not everybody..but 75% of em. And definitely Jerry Albus. My relationship with this office started out okay, in fact super pleasant and awesome as far as personal compatibility goes, but quickly unraveled over the course of the last 2 years. This place is a mirage when it comes to dental care. Sure, if you have perfect teeth and just need a cleaning every so often, then by all means go here, but personally, I have found them to be terribly insufficient in all other areas and not as detail oriented as I'd like from someone who is supposed to provide a service primarily dedicated to extreme detail and care. I had an issue that went unnoticed for some time until I brought it as a concern up during a cleaning at the beginning of the year. I then found another dentist for a second opinion, who I chose to switch to (as previous care provided by the office of Albus and McKay was both faulty and unsatisfactorily completed according to my current dentist.) The shoddy work and false trust of Toluca Lake Dentistry has resulted in me needing to not only replace the crown that was set in by this office LESS THAN A YEAR after it was completed (naturally a second crown in less than 5 years on the same tooth is not covered by insurance), but also undergo both a root canal and gum surgery as well, the latter of which would not have been necessary had the office of Albus and McKay taken care to not set the crown structure below the gum line in the first place, poorly shaping the remaining tooth structure (which has since had to be rebuilt) and potentially exposing me for periodontal disease down the line, and therefore requiring an additional and costly surgical procedure. It has been both financially expensive (to the tune of nearly $3,000 on top of last year's $1800 or so, and that's with insurance) and mentally and emotionally exhausting as I have undergone batteries of medical tests and missed many days of work trying to figure out what was making me feel so sick and tired. Having a dentist take a peek in my mouth for less than 5 minutes during an hour long appointment, tell me everything is okay, collect his country club dues, and send me home has happened with this office more than once. I have also had to redo the work on the space behind my front teeth, as the fillings this office did less than a year ago had decay under and around them. This whole ordeal has cost me over $5,000 when all is said and done due to this office's poor work and lack of further diagnosis after work was completed. Aside from being in pain for half a year plus after having my crown work done, and being told that "it was just settling still", or "some sensitivity is normal for months after, even up to a year" any time I questioned my discomfort, I take issue with the way this practice is run overall. Many times I have found myself in this office waiting in the chair to see the dentist longer than I actually am in his presence for, and have spent the vast majority of my time with the nurses/hygenists instead. I'd like to excuse it as "that's the just way it's done these days", but based on my current care provider, I know this to be untrue. From the moment I step into his office until the moment I leave, I am with my current dentist for almost the full duration of my appointment- close to 95%+, as opposed to this office's 5-10% in person time (on a good day.) It seems Toluca Lake Dentistry is all about the volume game. For the amount of money that dental care costs me and my employer, I expect REAL consistent care from the person in the office with the most training, and rightfully so- I only have one mouth, and am a person, not a number with a dollar sign attached. Also, it seems that I was switched to Dr. McKay without my consent, as he is the last dentist who saw me during my previous two or so visits, and quite frankly? His lack of empathy and overall personality towards effectively communicating with patients sucks. He comes off as defensive and confrontational when presented with questions about alternative information, which doesn't bode well as someone paying for his services. I have since switched dental care providers to someone who can treat me more satisfactorily, with better care and empathy, and will encourage others to do the same. My best regards to the nurses and hygienists that continue to work at this office- you have all been extremely pleasant, and I commend you for standing by your captains on this ship, whatever sorts of pirates they may be. read more

I HATE going to the dentist, but Dr. Albus isn't a dentist- He's a human, and took great care of me. His staff seems nice and always treat me well. I don't have insurance, so I like being able to come here and get 5 star service for a fraction of the price that it would cost me on the West Side. I've been a loyal patient of Dr. Albus for over 20 years because he's done all of my dental work beautifully and painlessly from simple fillings to porcelain crowns to ceracs. Dr. Albus absolutely takes the time necessary to do A+ work for his patients so please disregard the haters who write negative reviews based on trivia such as celebrity patients, waiting room time etc. The reason that smart people, and that includes movie stars, are loyal to Dr. Albus is that he is a proven pro who's seen it all and knows the best way to handle your dental issues. I trust him and I believe that if you give him a try, you'll feel good about that too. read more

I've been going here for years and since Dr. Albus will be retiring soon, he has left us in very good hands with Dr. McKay. This is a state of the art dentistry, very cutting edge and the office runs like clockwork thanks to the years Dr. Albus has generated the work environment here. Yes, they can be pricey and yes sometimes you have to wait (though lately a lot less than usual) - this dentistry is in high demand. I'm not a lover of dentistry - I'd rather have a shot from a doctor than have X-rays taken or lidacaine shot in my gums, but somehow I know I'm in good hands here and always feel taken care of and more importantly cared for! Sorry to see a few negative reviews here but I've been coming here for a long time and never felt taken advantage or that the work was shoddy. Quite the opposite - I do feel you pay for what you get! And with Dr. Albus, I got the Rolls Royce! read more

I love Dr. Albus and will be sad if he ever decides to retire. He is gentle, I hardly even feel the prick when he needs to numb me up for a filling. I love his stories. I find them distracting, which makes my appointment go by so much quicker and without thought to pain. I have also seen Dr. Varakus and Dr. McKay as well, and they are just as wonderful. Even my 3 year daughter is comfortable with Dr. McKay. Gita is an amazing and helps me to keep my teeth and gums healthy (improved since I started seeing her a few years ago). I look forward to her cheerfulness each time and that fact that she always asks about me and my family. My 3 year old is actually excited to go there and sit in the "special" chair and lets Gita clean and floss her while keeping her entertained the entire time. I highly recommend them. I agree with others comments about the offices staff; however they are not who I am there to see and I don't deal with them. It's always best to schedule your appointments at the least busy time of the day, plus it helps to call ahead to see if they are running on schedule. read more

Dr Albus is super skilled and knowledgeable, gentle and nice. i am a VERY nervous patient - i HATE drilling. So now they book me early and spend plenty of time making sure i am comfortable. Cynthia is a thorough and sweet hygenist. the staff is great, the place is SUPER clean and modern. Dr. Vicki Lai has taken over my care at Jerry's Place and she is amazing! Efficient, direct and really gentle... I was pleasantly surprised when she completed my crowns with virtually no discomfort and absolutely no pain! What an amazing Dr. and I can't recommend her more. read more
