This store has a lot of different art supplies and it was interesting to browse through and see what all they offer. Cost was a bit much, but I suppose if you're serious about art, then you'd go ahead and pay the exorbitant prices as passion takes money. After all, high prices are the trend nowadays, so why not? Regardless, I feel this was a neat place to visit every now and then. The selection was adequate at least. Just worked into this store for the first time today hoping to find an archival tape. I called ahead and asked if they had a particular type of tape and was told the name of a popular brand they carry. I decided to swing by and take a look at their tape section because it was only 7 minutes away. When I walked in I was greeted warmly by the staff and the person I had talked to on the phone, Jenny, had pulled an archival tape for me ahead of time which was very thoughtful and kind of her to do. This store is definitely an artist playground. It has so many art supplies but I find that some items are little more expensive than Michael's. But you will also find things that Michael's don't carry. They have a free members club where you can take advantage of the items you purchase being at a discounted rate, just think of how grocery stores do. There's arrows on the ground to help navigate through Covid. Even though people don't pay attention to it much these days. Overall, there's good finds on most of my project needs. read more

A wonderful Art Store! I came here in search of Copic markers and was pleasantly surprised at both the selection of art supplies and knowledge of the employees. Jenny and Salem went the extra mile and taught and demonstrated different ways of blending with the Copic markers and gave some advice on how to use them and what paper would be best for the markers. This was a very welcoming experience especially for not knowing much about art. There's also free coffee while you shop and free donuts on Monday! Definitely will be returning! read more

I love this store. When you walk in, you are greeted with shelves upon shelves of art supplies. I went Saturday for the learn pen techniques. The artist was there setting up with models and not quite ready when we walked in at noon. I choose several drawing pads for my budding artist and he roamed the store and drew on every available surface they had for testing. He finished roaming about 15 minutes later and sat down for a one on one session. First thing I noticed was the number of classes. They had an anime drawing class and the pen class. The store has several classes during the week and on weekends. Sunday was paint a rock Sunday with all supplies provided. The store was not busy, but there was a steady and consistent steam of customers. The cashier had little down time between answering the phone and ringing up customers. My kid finished the class, learned a lesson in depth and shadows. He left with a new technique and homework. The artist was there from noon till 4pm, plenty of time to get get a quick lesson. The plethora of art supplies draws me back. The discount card keeps spending. Take a class. Learn something new. read more

Jerry's is so very Nice! It's no wonder that the term starving artist is often so true. Art supplies are expensive. And Jerry's knows this. As soon as I walked into the store, I saw a cart filled with supplies--canvases, brushes, paints, easels, etc. Next to it was a price list comparing Jerry's prices to other national brands. The difference was amazing. In addition to the prices, Jerry's is also just a nice store. It's new, clean, and spacious and every aisle is clearly labeled so everything you need you can find quickly and easily. Flat screen televisions demonstrate different artistic techniques on screen to get you excited about your own project or to give you some new ideas. The best part is they will let you borrow the DVD "The World of Art" for free and learn some new techniques on your own at home, in addition to art classes and events offered at the store. read more

As others have mentioned... a very clean and organized art supply store! Usually the art stores that I go to are super teeny and have a ton of things all crammed together in what can best be described as "organized chaos." Not Jerry's. Jerry's has a section for everything. And it's so neat! As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the staff and asked if I needed help locating anything specific. I was looking for sketch paper and a henna kit. The sketch paper is standard for an art store. However, they had the exact henna kit for which I'd been searching! Hence the five stars! As I was going through checkout, they invited me to sign up for the key tag club thingy so that I could receive special deals and offers. Who can say no to special deals? Right?! What a fun place! Art stuffs as far as the eye can see. We were looking for nothing in particular, so we just spent a while wandering the aisles. I have got to get my hands dirty soon...that print making kit was looking awfully tempting. The employees seemed pretty happy, they were helpful when asked, but didn't fall all over themselves to assist, this is good when you're not looking for anything specific. Pretty good pricing as best we could tell. Sadly, it's been a while since I spent much time in an art store, so I can't really compare anything. I was pleasantly surprised to find an Artarama here when we were transferred to VA Beach. I normally don't need a reason to go into any art store, but this time I needed to add to my Copic markers and was THRILLED to see the Copics were $2 cheaper than my normal supplier! I was able to buy 12 colors that I didn't have, I was disappointed that they didn't have any Copic replacement nibs or the ink refills but I was still thrilled with the new colors. I bought 6 new pain brushes, a few lg bottles of paint and more pouring medium for acrylic pouring and I found a bottle of iridescent medium that I hope to mix in with the paints to make a glittery pour. I can't wait until the weather warms up a bit so I can get out to out building where I do messy art and start flinging paint!! I found affordable 32 oz bottles of 2 part resin and they sell gallon bottles of the same brand. I'm wanting to do the top of an old hospital tray table I bought at a swap shop with stickers, glitter, cute unicorn barrett's etc to sink into the resin. It will be a fun table for the kids to use when any of us get sick and/or bed ridden. I'll definitely be back to Jerry's. I'll worry about the credit card later! read more

What's the difference between Michaels and Jerrys? Well this is an actual "ART" store versus a "craft" store! Like all things art, supplies are not cheap at all. But Jerry's seem to be the lowest priced around. There are a few things that you can probably find cheaper elsewhere but for the bulk of things, Jerry's is the place to go. This place is a large open space with large isle labels so you will never have to guess where things are located. They have a huge selection of paper, frames and canvases. Along with that, they have loads of pens, paints and brushes. Almost everything you need for your art project will most likely be available there. The staff is always willing to help you understand things that are unfamiliar. If you can't find a specific product, they will come and help you find the exact item on your list. They'll also help you find the "cheapest" things that you can get at the store. So it's not like they'll push you for the more expensive brand when you can find an alternative for cheaper. Jerry's also has a "Loyalty" program. Saves you more money if you shop there frequently. Especially since they have sales specifically for "VIP" members constantly. On occasion they post uber cheap canvases for sale on their website and catalog. I'd sign up for their newsletter! read more

If your in a pinch and need art supplies this is a really good place to go. If you want cheaper prices you're much better to go online. I bought all of my tie dye supplies here until I shopped around online. I discovered they are way, WAY overpriced, even with shipping. I do not plan to continue buying here unless I'm either a. In a pinch, or b. Just need a little bit of color. Also, I was buying over $100.00 dollars in Tie dye supplies for a week long mission camp and asked if there was a possibility for some kind of discount. Of course there wasn't, but it doesn't hurt to ask. What bothered me was not so much the lack of discount, but the way the, I'm not sure if she was the manager, informed me of it. She was defensive of my asking and had several ridiculous excuses as to why they wouldn't give any discounts, professional or not. No I'm sorry, but more like how dare you ask. I must say their customer service has never impressed me. I would really rather give them 2 stars because I am insulted by her behavior, but it is a nice clean store with a lot of fun goodies I would love to have. read more

I absolutely LOVE Jerry's. I can't say enough great things about this place. This is actually my first visit to their new location since they moved from the Fairfield Shopping Center across town, but I've been a loyal customer for the past 10 years. This place has helped me get through my senior year of AP Studio Art in high school, as well as my exhausting, but exciting years as an art student at VCU [yes, I used to visit here from Richmond whenever I could to get art supplies]. The selection of supplies is HUGE and the prices are hard to beat. Any sort of project or medium, you're bound to find it here. Oil paints? No problem. Linoleum blocks and carving tools for block printing? They've got you covered. Various papers with different weights, sketch/watercolor/Bristol pads in many shapes in sizes? Yep, they've got those too! There's even blocks of clay, batik/textile supplies, and a giant arsenal of canvases. Another neat thing is there are a lot of projects and supplies for the younger artists too. I'm always just mega impressed by how many things are here. Everything is always organized, the store is clean, and the employees are always friendly and helpful. Even in their new, seemingly smaller location [their old location was about the size of a warehouse], it doesn't feel cramped and the store is still laid out nicely. My favorite things to stock up on here are brush pens, fine tip markers, and Fabriano brand sketchbooks. I do remember at one point they used to carry the Hand Book Artist Journals, which are the best sketch journals in my opinion [sorry Moleskine], I do wish they carried them again, but it's not enough for me to leave any negative remarks. Do be careful though, you can easily start dropping some serious cash here! Only because there's SO many awesome things to buy. Thankfully they have a rewards card where you can save 10% with your purchase! Overall, definitely a solid art store that's worth a visit. Both serious artists and the casual hobbyists will feel at home here. I always feel so inspired and refreshed whenever I walk through Jerry's. My daughter and I dabble in the arts and we always find our way to Jerry's for some great deals. I enjoy the variety and there prices are very reasonable. They also have a very knowledgeable staff who are friendly and helpful. I've never encountered any staff member who couldn't answer any of our questions or couldn't locate any item we requested. On my last visit, my daughter had lots of questions about the prismacolor and copix markers. She couldn't decide which ones she wanted and whether or not the higher priced copix markers were worth the price. The attendant was very thorough and she even demonstrated various strokes using both brands. I was very pleased at the patience of the attendant and how cordial she was towards my daughter. My daughter decided on the prismacolor markers and was able to purchase more items than expected. I will always choose Jerry's even though its not right around the corner from my neighborhood. The friendly service and prices are well worth it. It would be awesome if they had explanations for novice artists on the different types of tools that they offer. This would be very helpful. For instance, in the section where they have the graphite pencils, there are so many different types to choose from. Providing an explanation of what the pencils are for or how light or dark or soft they are would be beneficial. I love how they show the different shades for the colored pencils though. read more

My first visit to Jerry's was a few weeks ago when I needed to purchase some "emergency" prisma color markers for a rendering that was due for the new K-8 STEM school that my company is currently working on. Jerry's is one of the few places in VB that carries this medium. I called ahead to make sure that they had what I needed. I asked if it was okay to bring in my rendering in to match the colors and it was no problem. Amazing! When I got there I had had the daunting task of matching the markers to my current drawing. The girl that helped me was more than patient. (Tried to remember her name to give due respect, but I am horrible with names) She was also very knowledgeable because she took a color theory class and was able to match the colors faster than me! She even got in the floor to work it out with me. Overall I was overly impressed with the customer service here and their prices beat most retailers. It's been awhile since I can say that. Going to Jerry's Artarama makes me desperate to make things. I'm not a visual artist (I pretended to be in college for a while, then I got a reality check), but I can't imagine how an art store could be better than this one. Actually, my husband IS a painter and he concurs, for the record. It's a chain, which I didn't know until I just checked actually. It has a very professional clean feel, but it also doesn't seem impersonal or anything. This is a nice spacious store. You feel like you can browse and drool without being on top of anybody. Towards the back they keep the large canvases, boards, easels and such. My favorite art store in Hampton roads. The store has a lot of suppiles for many hobbies for art including, clay, crafting, painting, and sketching. The store also has a frame section. The prices are decent and mostly cheaper than its competitors. Store is neat ant not cluttered. Staff have been great and are creative people themselves! When I was a poor college student, Jerry's was my go to place for art supplies. My classes demanded tons of materials, all with detailed specifications regarding color, size, and brand. This place has tons of supplies. I shopped here for my girlfriends niece. They had everything on her list and multiple choices for each item. So the selection is great. The problem here was service. I had to ask on 4 occasions for help. In each case I felt like I'd asked them to pay my mortgage. They just had this look like, "oh fuck...I have to work now." Framing only. We came in with an 8x10 picture on a Saturday and the young lady helping us was very confused about how to price out the matte and frame with quotes from $600-900. She told us that the lady that was usually there was out that day and would be in tomorrow. Ok. So we trekked back on Sunday (40 minute drive). We spoke to that lady using the same frame and matte (sp.) options and she gave us entirely different quotes that were almost $200 more and couldn't explain the difference stating that the previous girl must have been giving your some sort of discount. WHAT DISCOUNT?? The ONE consistency we did receive from both employees were that they just plug the numbers in to the computer system and it generates the price. We did receive a bit more help from the second lady in picking frames and mattes since we are not framers and were looking for guidance. Unfortunately, I have received more professional assistance in other chain store businesses. The frames that were extremely expensive I saw in another business for 1/2 the price. Not sure the difference. I had each business explain to me the materials that made up the frames and couldn't identify any notable differences. We were BLOWN AWAY at the prices. We FINALLY settled on a frame and matte with (what we thought was a clear understanding) with the price of $230 (we thought it was unusually high since we received two other quotes from two other establishments but thought maybe the other places didn't know what they were doing). We received our picture back right before we went on Xmas break and the matting was un-proportionately large (approx. 2inches on each side) which made the picture look small. Keep in mind we paid for that much framing as well if that's how they calculated it and put it in their computer system. We took the frame and picture back to be corrected and they corrected (1 inch each side) the frame and didn't even offer any kind of difference back, apologize, nothing!! You would think as a professional/licensed framer is framing this picture s/he thinks to themselves "hmmm.. this looks out of proportion, let me call the customer and check", NO.. not a chance. We have the picture and frame back and it looks better but it was $230+ later and it was very painful picking out the frame and matte. As one caveat - We did have a Groupon certificate of $50 for $100 of framing. I just wish we could have spoken to a true professional / licensed framer. I will never return again and recommend people go to either Michael's or a local frame shop and get another quote before settling on Jerry's. I am now more "buyer beware" conscientious on framing work!! read more

Absolute best art supply store I've ever been to. We are lucky to have Jerry's Artarama in our city. They have truly outstanding service. They have helped me figure out the right materials for various art projects several times. I especially love how if you call them on the phone, you almost always get ahold of a real person right away and they'll let you know if they have a certain product or not. Their prices are great also. I just bought some paintbrushes for less than half the price of comparable ones at A.C Moore. They focus on fine arts materials-they don't have to much craftie-stuff like Michaels and Ac Moore and Hobby Lobby. They therefore have room for a better and cheaper selection of fine arts supplies than those other places. I had the worst customer experience ever. when I first dropped off my painting that I needed stapled onto the canvas the person in charge of framing was very nice and told me that it would be done on Monday or Tuesday when I dropped it off on Thursday totally understandable. So then I came in on Wednesday and it still wasn't done no one called me no one did anything then someone called me the next day I go and pick it up On Saturday and no one greeted me when I walked in I was still kind of confused on if it was done or not or if I needed to sign anything for it to be released this girl Claire comes out who I assume is the manager and has no customer service skills and is literally the most unfriendly person ever and anyway the whole staff and everything is just weird here I don't recommend getting anything done here unless you don't care about timing or customer service. A couple people are nice but like get your stuff together people. read more

I came in today to return a silkscreen I no longer needed, and a girl with glasses and a green pixie haircut was so nice and friendly!
