Jerry's is a local favorite in Gallup, NM. For my first trip to New Mexico, I thought the food was good. Nothing to get excited about though; that was until my husband and I went to Jerry's based on a suggestion from a local jewelry store owner. Jerry's gives me diner vibes, and food was fantastic! My one complaint about NM is that the chilies, both red and green, were not hot...at least not at any of the restaurants we had visited so far. My beef enchiladas and the chips and salsa had the spice I was craving. Everything was full of flavor, and the portions are big. My crispy taco stayed crispy! *angels should start singing now* I usually don't order crispy tacos in restaurants because they fall apart or get mushy sitting in the grease from the picadillo. Not Jerry's tacos. That badboy held together until the bitter end. My diet was blown, and I had no regrets! On my next trip back to NM, you can't bet we're making a beeline back to Jerry's. Don't be surprised if people are waiting outside. There's barely enough standing room by the door for two people to wait inside. It's worth the wait though. Trust me! read more

We barely made it to Jerry's as we pulled in to Gallup on a 3 week road trip. Living in the PNW, we dearly miss New Mexican cuisine. Jerry's is PERFECT. The green is chunky and rich and hot but not poisonous. The red will make you weep tears of joy. The salsa & chips are better than most meals. Even the iced tea is awesome. Jerry's Café in Gallup NM, is the place to be! On a family RV road trip and thank the heavens above for YELP....we found this place just in the nick of time. Meaning...it WILL fill up, the line WILL get long, but...you will NOT regret the wait! We had a party of 7 so we got the biggest booth....YAY! The place is super cute and tiny, but the charm and personality is BIG! I didn't count, but would guess that there is about 20 tables, 10 per wall, to fit a small groups of hungry people. The staff is very friendly and helpful, checking on tables while hustling food to everyone. Drink order was taken as soon as we were seated, and then chips and salsa hit the table....YUMMY! Fresh made chips with tasty salsa! We ordered....and then here it came....(eyes wide open) Taco platter with rice and beans, stuffed sopapilla, chicken ala Mexican, Don Carlos, burger, Miguel's Delight, and a child's taco plate. The plates are BIG, you get your money and foods worth! But more importantly...the food is DELISH! There was more food than could be eaten, lucky for me, as I had leftovers for breakfast the next day! They support local businesses and tradesmen, and they allow individuals to come through selling their goods. They are NOT pushy, very respectful if you are not interested, and politely let you gaze at the items for sale. I bought a nice necklace and was happy to support local arts and crafts! As we were leaving the café, the line was 3 people thick out the door and down the street 2 doors. Jerry's Café is a place that I would frequent if I lived here or even near by. I promise if and when I am in the area again...I will stop by! Yum! This amazing gem is a little off Route 66. It looks likes lots of locals frequent this place. (always a good sign) and the people were friendly. Above all, all of the food was delicious. We got the Jerry's special and the Miguel's Delight. The portions were large and the rice, which I typically don't eat at places because it's normally bland, was super flavorful. The salsa was so delicious we bought some to take home; it had some spice to it (we can take Thai hot and Bombay/ Delhi hot). I would say, for most, it's probably about an 8 on a 0-10 scale, but it has so much flavor. The. Sopaipilla were hot and served with honey- yum! The staff had the door open and flies were coming in. It's terrible to eat at a place and you cannot enjoy your food due to shooing the flies away. We expressed to the cashier upon leaving. Jerry's is a local's authentic diner. The place is tucked away on the west side of town. It's totally busy and has totally great food. The service is awesome. My husband could hardly finish his beef burrito. I regretfully had to leave almost 1/2 of my Jerry's Sopapilla it was so huge. The food is authentic without razzle dazzle. If you want great Mexican food come here! If you are looking for ambiance or romance this may not be your spot. Jerry's is a charming diner with great food, no fuss and reasonable prices. Celiacs rejoice! We are road tripping across the lower states and came upon this place from heavy recommendations. The staff was very friendly and we sat immediately even with the place really jumping. Our waitress was able to help me make a selection that was celiac safe and low and behold was epic in flavor. Yeah my fellow glutards you will not be able to have the enchilada sauce but their salsa more than makes up for it. My husband got their taquitos and was raving about the sopes. This is a small, Mexican American cafe a block or two off of Route 66 that was totally filled to the max by locals. The hostess took our name and handed us menus to peruse on the sidewalk. We only had a ten minute wait and were seated promptly and welcomed by an extremely helpful and sweet server. The sopaipillas were pretty amazing. The menu only listed a beef filled one with guac but our server said one could be filled with chicken if I wanted. Our food came quickly and was absolutely delicious. This is as authentic an experience as you are likely to get at any restaurant in the region. There is no ambience or atmosphere to speak of and the place has "been around." But the level of New Mexico food that arrives from the kitchen is just stunning. The chips arrive hot from the fryer from homemade tortillas. The salsa has charred tomatoes.
