    House salad

This very local joint has an old time ambiance: long and narrow with two aisles running down the sides with booth seating, and clientele where I believe I was the only passer-through in the joint. I opted for a chili relleno with a side salad. The salad was larger than usual for a side and all the ingredients were fresh and crispy. Very satisfying. The chili relleno had a proper fluffy egg coating and a cheese filling. Red and green sauces are offered and you can choose "Christmas," their charming term for both. (See picture). Service was friendly and prompt. A great local spot and on a freezing cold night there was no wait but every table was full for most of the time I was there. Parking is available on the street nearby and around the corner.

If you're looking for a place to eat in downtown Gallup, check out the old-school café with a neon sign Jerry's Cafe. As soon as you step into the bustling restaurant, you're greeted with a smile and fantastic service. After browsing the menu, I decided on the Don Carlos. When my meal arrived, it looked incredible. My only gripe was that the steak itself didn't impress me, but the rice, beans, and egg were perfect, and the chili had some of the best flavor I've ever tasted. Served with fresh sopapillas and honey, it was a total winner. I'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu. Don Carlos - B Sopapillas and honey - A++++ Red Chile - A+++++

Had the Cherelle's Choice on staff recommendation and it was delicious.

Great staff, good ambiance a real gem of a hole in the wall. Food was very good price was reasonable and I left stuffed. Definitely would go again if I ever come through Gallup again.

Small and out of the way restaurant. Food was delicious and portions reasonable. Service was quick and the waitress friendly.

If you're looking to satisfy your appetite at a reasonable price, definitely stop here. The food is sooo good and the service as well. Refried Bowl: it may look small but it fills you up! It comes with tortillas (recommend corn) and a sopapilla. Flat enchiladas: amazing

Ohhhh, are you in for a treat. But you have to find Jerry's first. Don't do what I did and wing it. Plug it into your phone! I found myself cruising off the beaten path and on to well beaten roads. If you get off 66, you're on your own. But hey, Alex J. , don't you have to get off 66 to get to the restaurant? Well, yeah, but just one block. Not the safari I went on LoL! When you find this hole in the wall, you've hit the jackpot. The food is authentic, satisfying, and filling. Most of all, it's really good. My choice was the Jerry's Special. Chopped steak topped with green chilis, (hatch green chilis) and you get rice, beans, and soppaipllas. Like I said, filling. The soppaipllas came in handy. They and the honey cut the slight heat from the chilis. Now don't let me scare you off of the chilis. They weren't that hot. Oh man those things are good. Very good!! The rice and beans are OK, but the chilis are the star of the show in this selection. Immerse yourself in the culture which is Gallup. Enjoy what you're about to experience. Quick Tip: You'll be rubbing elbows with the proud population of Native American, and Hispanic origins. I felt honored to be welcomed into their restaurant and into their community.

Passing through Gallup and checked Yelp for a recommendation and Jerry's popped up. As other reviewers have stated, this is a very small local's restaurant with limited seating. When we arrived there were groups of people waiting outside, however, we were lucky to be seated right away since there were only two of us. We noticed for such a small place, they had several staff members and they were all very busy serving or bussing. Yes. It is sort of a hole in the wall and could use some upgrading aesthetic wise but that is the charm of Jerry's Cafe. But, you are a little cramped. We were sat right next to the kitchen, restroom and dish carts, etc. We were immediately greeted by a nice young lady who brought us water and our server Janelle quickly arrived and brought menus. Janelle was super friendly with a huge smile on her face. She never left us waiting for service. We were both super hungry so she recommended Miguel's Delight which came with a chili relleno, chicken enchilada smothered with red chile and a crisp beef taco. It also comes with a sopaipilla for desert. My husband and I both commented how we haven't had good, sloppy yummy Mexican food in years and it was absolutely delicious. We both ate every single bite! Do yourself a favor and stop in at Jerry's Cafe if you are passing through Gallup.

Sopapillas- super yummy with the bottle of honey at the corner of the pic

If you are in or passing Gallup, Jerry's Cafe is a great restaurant for super yummy food and friendly service! Brianna was super accommodating to our particular requests and the food came out perfect and so so so yummy. The green chile sauce on my stuffed sopapilla was good enough to drink. Definitely will find my way back to this authentic New Mexican spot. If there is a line, it is worth the wait.

    Cherelle's Choice sopapilla. Amazing.

Of the old-skool New Mexican joints in Gallup, this has always been one of the best, and these days - it seems - one of the last good ones standing. If I were a tourist and looking for breakfast or lunch with an authentic RED/GREEN experience, I'd come here. I've recommended this place to more than a few folks. Yes, you have to order chips and salsa when you sit down (and no, they are not free). Get over it.

I love this place! Anytime I pass through or stay for a few days in Gallup, I must have a meal at Jerry's Cafe. Place is not large and filled with locals and guests. To describe this place as a "hole in the wall" may be an under statement. The food and service is excellent. I have been here many times and haver never been disappointed. Put this on on your list for great Mexican Food!

My husband and I stopped by here on our roadtrip and we are glad we did. It's a very small restaurant so be expected to wait a bit depending on the time and day you are going but worth the wait! It definitely is a hole in the wall but staff are friendly and food was delicious! The food came out quick so we were in and out in a good amount of time. Definitely recommend if you're in Gallup or stopping through.

    Jerry's Special. Green chile.

Very small place! Really good staff. Very polite and helpful. Come on the not busy times or expect to wait. Typical small town cafe do not expect a fine dining experience. I ordered the Jerry's special because I like green chile.

I expected the best because Jerry's has a 4-star rating. This goes to show you that 4 stars for some is 2 stars for others. My hubby had Jerry's special, hamburger steak covered in green chili. I had chili rellenos, topped with green chili. Hubby LOVED his dinner, 5 stars for him. Mine was "blah"; needed salt and a hot sauce, 1 star for me. We agreed on one thing: the sopapillas! 5 stars of light, puffy dough with honey!

    Does Jerry's have cocktails?

No, Jerry's Cafe does NOT have cocktails or beer and wine.

    Parking for RV?

I wouldn't recommend that. It's an older part of town and their parking lot is not very big. There is on street parking, but the streets are quite narrow. You would do better to Uber down there. There are some big gas stations by the freeway exit… Read more

    Indoor dining open yet?

Of course it's crowed because there are only about 28-32 small booths. Likely seats about 80 folks. Turnover is fast though!

First visit I had the bbq ribs with a baked potato and it came with a side of what looked like an attempt at refried beans with a squirt of bbq sauce in it. It was pretty good. Today we went in because their burgers look amazing. As you walk in they're cooking everything right there to your left as you go in. You order your food off the menu before you sit down and they bring it to you. As well as your drink order. One problem right of the bat is the plexiglass they have in front of the person talking your order. Preventing them from hearing anything. They're struggling to hear what people are saying. Today I ordered onion rings with my burger and I got French fries instead. The guy just didn't hear what I said. Luckily I didn't get charged for it. I ordered the Papa Burger with pepper jack cheese and bacon. That was one hell of a burger. The fixins are on a cart as you go to your seat. Where you can add what you want to your burger. The only gripe I think I can say about this place is that you have to ask for napkins. Both times I've been in I've had to ask. As well as silverware. But the staff is very friendly and helpful. So it's not a deal breaker. I wish I lived closer because I would eat here a few times a week. I'd love to try their breakfast. But overall this place is pretty awesome. Definitely worth a try.

The fries were good but the meat on the sandwich was overcooked and super chewy but dry. My sidekick had the fish and fries and some kind of soup. The decor had that fun old school diner/cafe vibe one would expect out on The Mother Road.
