Went here based on the suggestion of a former co-worker (who is also a Chef) and i'm so glad I did. If I had to say any negatives I could say the parking lot was small and the wait time was a bit longer than i'd expect...but that's truly it. Everything else was great. I ordered an Italian Dog because I love them, and the BLT Dog with Dirty Jersey Sauce based on her recommendation. The cost of these were right in line with any other specialty dogs you'd get from places like this in Jersey so that was a plus. The Italian Dog was massive and delicious. The potatoes were cooked perfectly and the flavor of peppers and onions throughout was excellent. The BLT Dog was even better! I wasn't super excited about a dog with lettuce and tomato wrapped in bacon with a spicy mayo...but I was wrong, and i'm happy to admit it. I'd suggest this one to anyone trying this place for the first time, and i've certainly not had my last! read more

Passed by this place a few times and finally decided to stop in. It was just two of us this time. I figured we'd try the eponymous Jersey Dog, which we got built on a Big Dog foot-long chassis... but first should explain how ordering works. At the top of the menu are three choices of dog (Sabrett dirty water dog, Thumanns, and Big Dog, which is a footlong. The last two are deep fried), with base prices. I guess you can just get a plain dog that way; and in fact, you can get free toppings as mentioned in the 2nd section of the menu (entitled "Free Toppings"!) - some of which are housemade gourmet options. You then pick the toppings/style in the paid section (marked "Deluxe Toppings") and I assume most people just jump straight to this. We wanted to try the Jersey Dog and were torn for a 2nd dog: deciding between the Pizza Dog and the Burrito Dog but finally decided on the burrito dog since it seemed a bit more exotic. Both were excellent, but if you'd like a breakdown, here goes: The Jersey dog is described as having yellow American cheese but I don't recall seeing any. The hashbrown is legit, and it's huge. The bun is huge as well, to better hold all this deep-fried goodness. My only criticism of this particular dog is that it's quite starchy. The top half of the bun (the part that's not full of Big Dog) was packed with hashbrown and the combination of that with the bun (though it was an excellent bun!) was too starchy. I counteracted this somewhat by alternating with bites of pure dog that were hanging out of either end of the bun. I was tempted to decompose the hot dog and and eat the hashbrown and other components individually with a fork, but where's the fun in that? I was worried the Taylor ham and hotdog would come out too salty but the flavors complimented each other surprisingly well. All in all, this was a great dog. And it was huge- probably more than one person should eat (remember, I ordered it as a footlong). There were two of us so we cut each dog in half and shared. Had we been much hungrier we might have been able to also fit in an order of fries, but not this time. Next was the burrito dog. We got this built with the Thumann's dog, so it was a little more manageable of a size. However, there was still a lot going on here. The burrito dog is the thinking man's dog. This preparation, in fact, will cause you to question your own definition of what a hot dog is. Forget about the age-old "is a hot dog a sandwich?" argument, order the Burrito Dog and engage your dining companions in a verbal dual about whether or not a Burrito Dog even counts as a hot dog... The burrito wrapper was somehow both soft and crispy at the same time. This might be due to our eating it almost directly from the fryer, at the little canopy-covered benches right outside the restaurant. And even though there was a torrential downpour of rain that started right after we started eating, this canopy was just the right dimensions to protect us from the wind-whipped rain, yet was open enough to prevent it from being too hot (and was certainly open enough to help allay any lingering covid fears you may have). Pro Tip: The burrito dog, being completely wrapped and then deep-fried, retains its heat much longer than your regularly-constructed hot dogs. I cut ours in half (and we started with the Jersey Dog to give time for the Burrito Dog to cool down some). But, you may also use this superpower to your advantage- if ordering to-go, or if you are passing through at an inconvenient time, order the Burrito Dog and it'll still be hot enough to eat an hour later! The chili (you have to specify spicy or mild; we opted for mild as I am a big wuss about spicy foods) was excellent- not to overpowering, but full of the right flavors and textures. The menu describes it as coming with a dollop of sour cream which I am not sure I got, but it doesn't really need it (maybe the spicy one does?). I reall liked this dog and if I had to do it over, I'd get this one. But I'd like to try a few more before declaring my favorite. As I said, the Pizza Dog was an initial contender, and the next time I have an opportunity to stop in to Jersey Dogs, I will get that one. The falafel dog intrigues me greatly. The Jersey Girl (like the prototypical Jersey girl) seems like a delicious hot mess.... There's so much here I want to try. What we didn't realize until we got there was that they have their own brand of soft drinks- bottled in a refrigerator by the front door. I doubt they are made on site but it's a cute thing to check out and the ones we picked (cream soda and wild cherry) also happened to be caffeine free). They were really good and quite refreshing. Will definitely be back to try something new when I'm in the area. Almost forgot to mention; the lady (owner?) who I talked to was so nice and friendly. We chatted a bit about local weather events, joked around a little, etc. Hopefully she's there when I go back! read more

At one time Jersey Dog was my go to place. I bragged about it and sent quite a few people there. I stopped in a few weeks ago and the food was not as good as it had previously been. Also, the one who took my order, I believe it was the owne's son, was extremely rude to me. .I will NEVER GO BACK and will NOT send any of my friends there. Fantastic hot dogs. We are frequently here weekdays in the summer. We come a little after the lunch rush and always love chatting with the owner. Totally down to earth. Totally genuine person. Owner's son works the grill pretty much single-handedly. Amazed at how fast he can push out the varied orders of dogs, each with a differing collection of garnish and toppings, plus juggle the onion rings/fries/mozzarella sticks straight out of the fryer. And, unlike other establishments, nothing sits waiting. Each order is cooked on the spot, done to order and begins by being pulled cold from the fridge. I've read the banal one star reviews of this place and can't get my head around what they're talking about. No appreciation for the choreography that is unfolding in front of them. Those reviewers are pretty much unhappy dicks and would one star a kids lemonade stand. So, you know, fuck them. Anyway, Rodeo dog or just plain rippers for me. The dirty Jersey sauce is a signature of the place. Rightly so. Love it on everything. The cheese-steak is a sleeper. Must try that. Big plus...purple drank! in the drank percolator on the counter. 2.5 stars.. Was looking for a quick bite for dinner and stumbled upon here. Place was completely dead when we came in. The woman (the owner) working in the front did not even greet us or smile at us once. So don't expect great service here. We ordered the B.L.T, Pizza, Nacho Dog and Disco Fries Topped with Mozzarella Cheese & Gravy. The hot dogs were decent but nothing special (I mean it's really hard to mess hot dogs up especially when they are deep fried - Thurmann's style) but the gravy sauce on the fries were EXTREMELY salty. I don't ever think food should be served this salty because it's hard to fix it (which is why most places have salt and pepper on the table so you can add as much as you want to your meal after it's been cooked). Service was a little slow considering we were the only customers there. There isn't much seating indoors but they also have outdoor seating. Would I come back? Overall, I'm not that impressed and I definitely would not go out of my way to come here. If you want really good hot dogs and you're willing to drive, check out Destination Dogs in New Brunswick. Onion Rings were large and crispy like the chicken strips. Worth the trip. Glad to find a place near me this good since I recently moved into the surrounding area from Passaic/Bergen County Area. This place is better then the famous ones dog joints down below. Only criticism is perhaps they should have their fountain drinks advertisements a little more noticeable to the menu board. We're so glad Jersey Dog reopened! They have the the best variety and always fresh ingredients. We always order Chicago dogs which are "dragged through the garden" (lotta fresh veg) and they are always fantastic. The outdoor seating is a plus and we've been there in all kinds of weather. They really should sell Yoo Hoo though as it is the perfect pairing for a hot dog or two; but otherwise, give this place a try, you'll like it. Update. They have Yoo Hoo!!! Yay. read more

Having passed this place over 100 times and reading the mostly glowing reviews I decided to try it the other day. The young man at the counter, an unsmiling, unfriendly, disinterested chap took my order. That should have been the tipoff that things would go downhill from there and they did. I ordered a deep fried Thumann's dog with bacon and cheese. After a 10 minute wait (and there was no one else waiting for an order) I received my dog. The hot dog itself was small, had one measly piece of bacon and cheese whiz as the topping. I had to ask for relish and mustard to be added on it as they do not provide for or allow their customers to add their own condiments. Considering the dog was deep fried it barely had any crunch at all. And then the topper - $5.35 for this disappointing meal. This makes me wonder whether all those glowing reviews are just plants. I will not be back and I suggest others avoid this place. read more

I've been passing this place all summer long and finally decided to stop in and get some dogs. After looking at the very varied menu, we decided on Italian Hotdogs. It was a lot to ask that they taste like what I grew up on from Elizabeth New Jersey, but they did! The hotdogs were crispy on the outside just like they should be potatoes peppers and onions. Wow! Stopped by just as a whim on a Monday night. It's primarily a take-out place with just 2 small tables and a tv. The menus are huge and on the wall. Service was quick and the server was nice. I ordered the volcano which has an avocado spread, onions and jalapeños. It was good but I'm not a big fan of onions so I might have enjoyed it more if I ordered something else. Also ordered the North Carolina. This one had chili, hot sauce and coleslaw on top. This one was more delicious because the hot sauce was WoW spicy and the coleslaw was a great touch because it cooled your mouth right after tasting the spice. Also ordered disco fries which were my favorite because the fries was just the right thickness...not skinny but not thick like a potato wedge. The edges were crispy...which is how I like it. The cheese was good and the best part was the gravy because it wasn't salty. I would stop by here again if I'm around the area. The prices are reasonable and there is lots of parking. read more
