A wonderful experience at Davy's Hot Dogs and Grill in Mount Arlington, NJ. The restaurant was clean and spacious. The hot dogs were fantastic. The French fries were superb and were the perfect balance of crispy while still light and dressed with the right amount of salt. The coffee was delicious and the perfect roast. Thank you David for suggesting the coffee-great choice. All of the employees were kind, attentive, and energetic. David (the owner) was friendly, kind, animated and eager to share about the history of Davy's Hot Dogs and Grill. The atmosphere is family friendly with numerous booths and tables to sit at. This is a great spot right off of Route 80 when you need a quick bite to eat that leaves you feeling full for the next few hours. We came for the atmosphere, and lets just say that's all there is. Everything you order will feel like all bun, even if you get a specialty dog with two hotdogs in one bun. The only redeeming quality is that the portion of fries is incredibly generous (and definitely to be shared) and they have a liquor license so you could grab a beer or a bad mixed drink to help it down. I love the idea of this place. They have so many kinds of dogs you can try, all with fun names and a ton of toppings. I also love the divey vibe of the inside and outside, as well as the drive-through option. The service is very nice and packed us with extra utensil and napkins when we asked. The only thing is that the dogs themselves are very thin and small. I was expecting this giant dog with an explosion of toppings. We ordered 3 dogs and they were really small and left us hungry! You'd have to order a ton of them to actually fill up on these. I'd recommend ordering some fries and a cheeseburger along with the dogs to fill up a bit. Overall this was very fun to try and I will probably be back, but will adjusy my order a bit if I'm looking to really fill up. read more

We stopped in for a quick breakfast. It's a cute small rustic spot with a small menu consisting of mostly specialty hot dogs and some sides. Our food took a little while but it was pretty crowded. we got 2 breakfast combos! My sunny side up eggs were to be expected and the home fries were deliciously crisp but lacking a little salt. The omelette wasn't anything great but decent for the price. We ordered a specialty dog bc we had to try one. We got the perogi dog and it was lack luster. The topping was good and the flavors went well together it just didn't have any love. I was looking for a fat grilled dog but disappointed to get a lukewarm (at best), thin dog with thick skin that was difficult to bite through. I thought this was because I didn't ask for a grilled dog the first time so I asked for the second one grilled to give it a fair shot but I couldn't even tell it was grilled when it came out. The skin again looked pale and the dog was cold. The fries were decent. Maybe they should rename is Davys Fries. read more

My review is a mix of 20 years ago and today. 20 years ago, I was an intern in Mount Arlington, and Davy's was right there. We often went out for lunch here and I loved it - the classic split dogs, toppings as desired, nice and cheap for an intern's budget. Today, I went back to look at it, and, well, nothing's changed except the prices. Nothing modernized, which I applaud, but it's difficult to find your way in (I ended up at the counter - in the past we went into the dining room, but I couldn't find that entrance) and now the board prominently advertises Sabrett hot dogs. For the price you pay here, I can bring home a 12-pack of Sabrett and make them myself. Sadly, the magic is gone, but I will live on with the 5 star memories of my intern days. read more

Have been seeing their sign on the way to and from the Poconos for many years. We stopped for gas and happened to see their building. Thought it was a chain but found out from the nice young lady at the drive-thru that this is the only location. Drive-thru menu font was pretty small to read. Picked pierogi bec was curious - but just a hotdog with pierogis and sour cream on top; and Volcano for the spice - it had perfect amount for me since I asked for no jalapeños - not bad for snacks at $3.85 each. Also cheese sticks. Decided to go inside to eat our order. A few tables and booths, lighting is a bit dim with the wood paneling, wood cabin feel which I didn't mind. Restroom available. read more

If somehow you you can't find one that's right for you, simply choose what ingredients you want from the list and they'll gladly fix it up for you. For me the Volcano dog seemed like a good place to start - Chili, Potatoes, red peppers, Jalapeño and red hot. Great snap on the Sabretts hot dog - just the right amount of heat and the perfectly cooked potatoes had great texture and flavor - the 1st time I had potatoes "on" my hotdog but it won't be the last time. I decided to go with one of my all time favorite hot dog toppings for my 2nd dog - "Red Onions" and it was perfection in its simplicity. I past but this place very often and it always catches my eyes, because of it's unique A-frame log cabin look. Also, that it has a sign that says 'Drive-Thru' and next to it is another sign that says 'We Sell Beer'...always shake my head and have a chuckle!! One day decided to pop in and grab a dog. The inside is a bit odd, as the outside. The interior decor is a mashup of ski log cabin, a diner, and a hot dog stand...hilarious!! The staff at the counter was friendly and patiently waited for me to decide on what I wanted...breakfast or lunch...brunch times are the toughest!! Their menu board is larger than expected, also they serve breakfast all day. So, I got the breakfast sandwich to go and a hotdog with fries and a shake to eat in. The food was ok, a little pricey for average size portions. The staff was nice as they brought the food to the table. As I was sitting there looking around, taking in the unique decor once again. Not saying it's bad, just needs a few things updated. One area I enjoyed looking at...was a display case with the owner's father U.S. Army service jacket from WWII with a couple of his medals, photos, and letters. Definitely respect and appreciated that display of that history. One day I would like to come back to help them update that display case. read more

The owner stopped by explaining the roots of the business, his father who started, served in the armed forces & built the business from a cart to this incredible restaurant. Was just an unexpected kind touch from the moment we entered till we enjoyed our meal to us leaving! Now this isn't a Michelin restaurant with fancy amenities but it also doesn't need any of that jazz they mean business & they are damn good at it! You go up to the counter offer your food -- tons of breakfast items, hotdog combos & other specials including beers on tap as well as to-go cases! We just had a fantastic lunch at Davy's Hot Dogs and couldn't be happier about our choice while in the Lake Hopatacong area. Actually, it's worth going out of your way to go to this wonderful casual family restaurant, The food was solidly delicious and generously portioned, especially for the very reasonable price point. Sincerely, with 2025 inflation, getting an amazing hot dog with toppings for $3.99 is almost unheard of! We ordered an Italian hot dog, which was huge and on a really nice French bread type of roll, with a lot of tasty cubed potatoes, peppers & onions and was amazing with just a touch of mustard. So good!! We also had a Disco Dog, which was irresistible with a really tasty hot dog covered with the perfect amount of melted cheese, brown gravy & skinny fench fries. It was such a great combination of flavors, I can't imagine a hot dog without those toppings now! I've officially become spoiled here. There's a really creative menu of options, I had a hard time making my choice bc they all sounded so good. Next time I want to try the pierogie dog, and the Sinkhole dog - iykyk - though we tried their onion rings & they have a dog made up thst way too - must be yummy because their onion rings are on point - perfectly fried and crispy, without being greasy. Highly recommend! We came here mid-day in a hot Saturday and it was busy in the drive through, but I'm glad we went inside to eat. We were treated like family by the gracious staff members who were so attentive, thoughtful and kind. We were lucky enough to meet Davy, who came over to check in and see how we were enjoying our lunch - very much so, thank you very much! It was great to meet the namesake and proud owner, who befriended us and told us stories of his brave father and how the restaurant came to be. This is a family business that is full of heart, soul and love. I'd eat here every day over a chain restaurant, and you should too! Support these family businesses while we still have them! There are so many things to rave about here, from the beautiful Swiss Chalet style building that was lovingly custom built by Davy himself, to the wonderful stories we heard about his dad, who was a Battle of the Bulge Airborne survivor. Come for the ambiance but stay for the smiles! This is our second time stopping at Davys and this time we brought friends... After a day out with my son, we stopped in here for a quick dog...kind of dingy looking spot. The dog was boiled from what I could tell and not very good. The whole place was run down but I guess that's the look their going for (Rutt's Hut is a comparison but RH pulls it off nicely). So pulling into this place I was kind of hit with a "what are we thinking with this one" feeling. It's an older looking A frame type all wooden building that looks like it would be set at the bottom of a Swiss Alp serving hot chocolate and crudités plates. Turns out Davy's has some serious dogs, and according to my kids, some pretty tasty burgers as well. We came here after the last day of school last year as a bit of a celebration for my kids, and a way for us to try out a new place. Since having gone, I've also heard their chicken cheesesteak and milkshakes are excellent so I'll need to go back at some point. We ordered some plain dogs, burgers, A chili dog with onion and mustard, and an Italian dog. The plain dogs were solid. My kids enjoyed the flavor and the cost was right in line with anywhere else in the general area. The burgers were also solid. They're served on Jersey Kaiser rolls (which I love) and the meat was juicy and flavorful. The Chili dog was very tasty. A solid chili with good consistency and flavor. Went really well on this dog. The Italian dog was also excellent. Two large dogs with fried potatoes, onions, and peppers on a huge roll. Wasn't even remotely close to finishing it...worth the cost. Grabbed a Fat Dale, a newer creation with shredded chicken, pierogi with cheese and French fries. Not the best "Fat Sandwich" I've had and maybe next time will try it with the usual mozzarella stick and sauce. The bread was soft and moist to be handled with the chicken staying moist with grilled onion and the cheese. Which it was all built better the French fries was just topped on. My family opted for the loyal Philly Cheesesteak which was fine. The Reuben has much more for desire for me. Been coming to Davy's for 25 years. Every single time it's been great. I don't live in the area anymore but anytime we drive in this direction it warrants a stop. Go to order is 2 chili and onion dogs and an order of fries to split with a friend (the portion size is huge). Everyone is always kind and makes sure you're happy with your order. Its a local spot, and the building is definitely unique. But lean in and appreciate it! Stop in if your driving on 80 home from the lake or pa. Easily the best hot dog spot in NJ. read more
