Great place for a great deep fried Thurman hot dog! Their fries are real and I don't think they are trans fat seasoned. They have a pretty good selection of items. Their fried clams are excellent! In terms of the hot dogs I'd give it four stars. In terms of the service I'd give it two stars, ergo it averages out to three stars. I haven't found their service to be slow, but their personalities are lacking. The son has zero personality and if he smiled I think it would kill him. The mother is a piece of work. From day one she has been confused and frazzled. All she ever does is complain! I'm sorry, but the place has been open a little over a year and from the beginning they act as if they've been serving hot dogs for 10 years and that the customers are nothing but an annoyance. Why open a business then?? She's never messed up my order, but I've seen her mess up other people's orders. She doesn't listen. If your order comes to $5.76 and you give her $6.01, she doesn't understand why and will get ready to argue with you. Because I want 25¢ back, and not pennies!!! The lack of seating indoors is a bit of a drag, especially when the weather is bad. There's really not much that can be done with that (don't think there's room to expand) other than moving to a larger space. I do wish them well and it's nice to get a decent hot dog in town, but they really do need to work on their people skills. read more

Best hot dogs in Sussex County! Loved stopping here on my breaks from class or on my way home from school. Great prices and friendly owner! Very clean and I love that the kitchen is open for you to watch them make your food. I'm not picky enough to watch someone make my food but I love that I can see how clean the kitchen is. Prices here are really good. For $6 you can get a soda and a HUGE hot dog, i'm talking like 12 inches or nearly 12 inches and very thick, covered in toppings. You can't beat this price! My only complaint about this place is sometimes they don't take cards-- this is because the owner uses her smartphone to process card billing. Either be cash only or take cards always! I'm sad I graduated SCCC because I wont be in the area as much to eat here, but I will definitely eat here when I am in the area! Pleasant, family owned joint (Mom on the counter, son on the grill when I and my wife were there) with on site parking and a few seats inside to eat in if one chooses. Good dirty water dogs with standard fixings. Cool sides (onion petals being one option with "dirty mayo" dipping sauce). Stopped into place while passing through town. Menu is really big, think there are too many items. Some items not ready even though I was there at 1, example was gravy for the fries. Got a kraut and a red onion dog, both were good but not great. Red onions little overdone and forgot mustard on my kraut dog. Tiny place, room for a few to sit inside but we are in our car because there was no room. People behind counter almost seemed annoyed that we came in, not sure if something was going on. So we're visiting every hot dog joint in NJ as part of our Great New Jersey Hot Dog Tour. We eat a specialty dog and then a control dog (plain or chili/Coney dog if they don't). Here we split the Big Dog Jersey Dog: deep fried dog wrapped in Taylor ham, yellow American cheese, crumbled hash brown, salt, pepper, and ketchup which was the most unique Signature Dog on the list. It did NOT have American cheese, but instead had Cheese Whiz which really took away from the dog. Sad, because with real cheese it would have been great. We also split the Coney dog (Sabrett, not Thumann). The chili had great flavor but perhaps next time we get the mild as the spicy had a tad much too spice. The owner/guy behind the counter seemed a bit disinterested in serving us. Free parking lot. Overall a decent place if you're in the area, but not worth a special trip. Really good dogs. The place used to be a Hess station that they converted. I had the Texas with the Thumans dog and the Rodeo with the Thumans dog. The dog is deep fried. Adds a bit of crunch. Highly recommended for those in the area for lunch. read more

We had just taken a hike at nearby Paulinskill WMA and were very hungry. Where to eat? Well, we have been passing Jersey Dog for some time now saying, we'll get there one day. Much has been made of the owner's personality. I have some advice for all you whiners. Try talking to her instead of expecting the red carpet rolled out. Toughen up for Lord's sake. We enjoyed chatting with her about the business and the nice dog holding the red hot on the sign. It was a family pet. Anyway, about the food. Several doggy options are available. We went with the dirt water variety. Three naked. Two with spicy chili. Fries and rings. Dogs had great snap, the chili was good and spicy. Fries and rings were well done. Made a stop here on Saturday 3/18/17 en route to ShopRite. I've driven past here numerous times but it was always packed. I went with the classic Coney - big dog. Ultimate guilty pleasure stop! Ordered the Jersey Dog, the big one. It was more than I anticipated but so worth it. If you're going big, you better be hungry! Great taste, toasted roll so it didn't fall apart and great value. Ate outside in their picnic area which was cozy and clean. Nicely landscaped with flowers. I shared disco fries which is basically poutine and they were very good. They had a great selection of specialty dogs. I plan to be back when my travels allow. I have gone there a few times. 1st when it opened. Hot dogs where undercooked and service wasn't just slow, the owners were confused. My thought was that the small place wasn't able to handle the amount of people for the opening and they had to learn the routine. The onions rings were delish! Waited several months and went back. Only a few people inside. Service was still slow. The onion rings have changed to a nasty grocery store version and I watched the owner yell at a customer when she complained her order was wrong. The place is small so I heard this girl order and the owner did mistake it. Then the owner came out fro. Behind the counter and PUSHED the customer out the door. The customer called police and the owner and her son lied about what happened. I will never return to this place. read more

Dogs are overpriced, undercooked, and served in ShopRite buns. Fries are undercooked but somehow manage to soak up grease like nobody's business. Service is...odd. The owner took my order, then kept an eye on me as I waited in the freezing cold counter space. Mind, I'm a 48 year old graying professional woman--hardly a threat. My fries were served to go in a Styrofoam container. That's a no-no (they get soggy in seconds from condensation). Canned soda choices were Sprite, Diet Coke, or Fanta. Seriously? Ummm those were the worst hotdogs ever! I ordered about 7 different hotdogs because I am a hotdog fanatic and wanted to bring them home for my boyfriend to try as well. The hot dogs tasted undercooked and the chili sauce looked like dog food from a can. It didn't even taste like chili. The buns were stale. The chili cheese fries were salty and I already explained the chili. I also ordered fried pickles... They did not have any taste to them. Also, when walking in the owner did not greet us... It was ok. I got the Jersey Dog which sounded a lot better than it actually tasted. It had pork roll, cheese, hash browns, and SPK on it. A pretty great local hot dog joint. Family owned, staff is friendly. Definitely a step up from hot dog trucks and by far the best hot dogs in the area. If you're getting lunch there during your break, I'd suggest calling in your order ahead of time. The menu has an impressive assortment of options and the ingredients always taste fresh. They have a few agreements with local businesses to offer discounts for their employees, too. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is because I really wish they had some sort of Asian flavor combinations for their hot dogs. I'm a big fan of Asiadog and Japadog in New York City, and it would be great to get similar varieties closer to home. read more

My wife and I went christmas tree shopping in mid december which turned into an all day affair. Lots of options, always consistent and good, wish they were open Sundays to get as a midday snack while running errands in town but what can you do.
