After taking my order I have been waiting in line for at least 10 minutes and haven't even gotten to the register yet. As I'm observing the employees (and even the manager) there is just so much confusion and no sense of urgency. The communication skills of the employees are hard to listen to. When I arrived, there were four people working the counter and one person on the grill. The person slicing meat and taking orders had his hat on sideways. There were three people in line with subs in various stages of completion. After about five minutes, sideways hat man asked the customer in front of me what he wanted, and the customer stated he wanted a #9 giant on white. Sideways began slicing meat and placing it on a roll. As I continued to wait my turn and examine the menu, trying to decide if I wanted to change my regular #13 giant to a #9 giant, another customer walked in and got in line behind me. Sideways looked past me like I was invisible and asked the customer standing behind me what he wanted. The new customer stated he wanted a #13 mini. Sideways then began preparing the mini Italian for the customer in line behind me. I texted my wife and told her the staff at Jersey Mike's was being rude and asked her if she would prefer something different for lunch. With so many choices - Jimmy John's and Firehouse Subs just up the street - I didn't see any reason to tolerate the disrespect the staff at Jersey Mike's was projecting towards me. My wife suggested another restaurant, so I left. I have been purchasing subs at Jersey Mike's once or twice a week, but I see no reason to go back to this restaurant in the future. Besides being tasty, consistent, and very satisfying, I discovered they use local produce. I asked how their tomatoes were always so red (competitors are anemic looking). They pointed across the street to the farmers market on Clemson. Another thing I like about JM, the bread they use is so very tasty. It is hearty, not sweet, and has a tougher crust and a softer inside. Finally, they are not skimpy on the toppings; they pile them on. I have eaten at this location about 12 times over the last two months (and yes, I'm on a Jersey Mike's kick!). I have found the food to be delicious and prepared consistently well. I am a fan of the #13, which is the original Italian. It's packed with freshly sliced meat and veggies. My wife often gets the turkey wrap. We have also tried the Philly cheese steak, which is cooked to order on a grill. Very good! I am really impressed with how this place is managed. They really hustle to get the orders out, and always say thank you. One of the managers is named Shaun and he knows how to treat customers! I might also signed up for their "mikes club" card, and it gets me a free sandwich for every 5 or 6 I pay for. Not bad! Price is fair but not cheap. I usually get a combo (regular sandwich, large drink, and chip), my wife just gets the sandwich, and it totals around $18 bucks. Definitely wont keep me from returning. I had the grilled buffalo chicken wrap. I changed it up a bit, putting it on the tomato basil wrap and getting ranch instead of blue cheese dressing. As long as you like a bit of spice - you'll love this wrap. It was delicious! They were really busy today, especially considering it was mid afternoon. That being said, they were pleasant, efficient, and friendly. I had to wait longer than I normally do for a sub sandwich, but I never felt like that was due to laziness on the part of the staff. As I sat and ate, I watch one of the employees clean the few empty tables around me. Nice to see, plus it was nice to see him wipe down the bench seats and chairs as well.
