Here for a quick getaway. Looked up potential places for dinner one night and came upon Jesus (pronounced hey-soos) Latin Grill in Mishawaka. Reviews were great. Looked like an interesting place. Goodness, it was NOT disappointing! Vibe inside was eclectic, colorful, and fun. Our server was fabulous! Friendly but not obtrusive. Knew the menu well. Did everything with a smile! We started with their fresh made guac and the best freshly made tortilla chips we've ever had in a restaurant. We shared the verde salad...spinach, arugula, chocio corn, white beans, grilled avocado slices, jicama, pepitas, honey garlic dressing. Kinda exciting to get a salad unlike any other! So good! Hubby had the Chochinita Pibil...yucatan slow-roasted pork with all the fixings (look at the menu for details) and accompanied by their freshly made, banana leaf wrapped corn tortillas. I had the Peruvian Street Chicken, stacked high on the plate with, among other things, olive tapenade and the most delicious charred lightly smashed potatoes. It was HUGE and easily could have served 2-3 people (needless to say, we doggie-bagged mire than half of it!). Again, unique and taste-bud exploding flavors! Hubby tried, and enjoyed, their hose brewed Mexican lager which he says was crisp and malty. I cannot fail to mention the beverage I tried (on server's recommendation), the Mole Dream Mezcalita. Came in for dinner last Saturday night with friends who live in the area. Generally, tasty food. The guac and yuca fries were better than the crispy calamari, while my spicy poblano mexcalrita did the trick after a long wait for a 7 PM reservation (we were bottled up in the tiny front waiting area for nearly 40 minutes while another group finished up, which the restaurant compensated us for by throwing in a couple of freebies). For dinner, I got the chicken tinga dorados and was very satisfied; for $9, this appetizer was absolutely enough to be a full dinner for me and was very tasty. I don't love the space here for a lot of reasons, but the food is great and the service was relatively quick once we got seated. Looking forward to a return visit the next time I'm in town! read more

I went to this restaurant last night with some girlfriends. I had never been, and honestly, always thought it was like a high-end Mexican place. Boy, was I wrong! Their entire menu has inspiration from all over Latin America and South America! It was honestly really cool to try. The price point on some of the meats are a bit out of range for me, but the tacos and appetizers are all fairly priced. I got the nachos, never having eaten chicken tinga before. I knew (as with most places) the nachos would be filling. It was truly a flavor explosion. There were these red peppers (not sure what kind) that I took off because they were too spicy for me (doesn't say much) but then the rest of everything on the plate really worked well together. I also ordered a side of yucca fries because I've never had yucca before and have always wanted to try it. It was really good! It came with 2 sauces drizzled on it- I think one was a chimichurri and the other was an aioli. I'm not a huge fan of aioli in general, so next time I'd order it without. But service was good. We've been to Jesus several times, but it's been hit or miss for us. We decided to give it another chance since we had a gift card to use. We started out with a couple of cocktails - The Blood for my husband and the Aztec Eagles for me. I loved mine - great mezcal flavor without being sweet. We started with the crispy calamari which was pretty good despite the fact that some of the larger pieces were pretty tough. My husband ordered the seafood cataplana which was loaded with over a dozen large mussels, a few large shrimp and plenty of Bay scallops. The coconut broth had the perfect level of spice to be soaked up with the grilled bread. He liked it so much he asked for a spoon to make sure he didn't leave anything behind. I ordered the fresh catch which was perfectly grilled mahi mahi with charred broccolini and mashed yuca all with a perfectly seasoned and spiced sauce. We normally skip dessert, but we were celebrating and couldn't pass up the white rabbit cheesecake which was carrot cake layered with mascarpone, goat cheese and parsnips - perfect ending and not too sweet! I chose Jesus Latin Grill for lunch after looking at Yelp and their website. The restaurant is in a former church. It's truly a beautiful place inside with an artistic vibe. The service was mehh. I was puzzled when they tried to seat me near an open door. With the temps in the 50s that's just a bit too cold to sit and eat. I opted to sit elsewhere. I had a wet chicken tinga burrito. The taste and flavors were great .. but the food was barely warm. It would have been much better hot. Parts of the burrito were pretty cool despite coming straight to the table. The place wasn't very busy so that was strange. No extra drinks were offered, asked about a dessert, or anything at all, and there was no one around when I left. We came for lunch on a Saturday at noon. Despite nobody else being in the restaurant, it took over an hour to get our food. When the food came, most people didn't get what they ordered, but that being said, everything at the table was actually pretty delicious. So, not great service, but the food slapped. read more

We walked in at 8:30, knowing they close at 9pm. I told the middle aged man at the host station "we were hoping to get a couple appetizers at the bar and order some chaufa to go." He said "my bar & patio are closed." My boyfriend restated what I said about just sitting for the apps and getting the chaufa to go, he offered a single menu and said "we only have 2 servers on staff tonight, we've been behind all day." While I certainly felt bad for the servers, this man was standing there on a Sunday, Memorial Day weekend nonetheless, turning away customers and doing very little else. Bad business. Glad Taco Tuesday is back, with mix and match tacos ranging from $3-$6. But I must say, I'm hugely disappointed with the downsizing of the menu!! The lamb empanada, a bunch of our favorites--all gone. Plus, prices on what's left seem to have gone up exponentially in the past few years, yet I only see cheaper protein options replacing those lost favorites... food is still good, but damn, I'm gonna miss those lamb empanadas so much! Our server was great, and expressed they were equally disappointed by the menu changes :( We stopped in again last Tuesday to grab a couple seats at the bar to get some tacos... waited around the front for about 10 minutes before being greeted by a frazzled but nice server. I hate to give 3 stars... however, Jesús Latin Grill is either hit or miss. Some of the food items are quite salty (in my personal opinion). My brother and his wife brought me here for my retirement dinner. The different flavors of margaritas were extensive and delicious. I didn't know what to expect of the food as I'm not familiar with Latin cuisine. It definitely did not disappoint!! Pretty amazing that I've never reviews Jesus after going about 100 times over the past 3 years. For the most part, it's very good. Food is solid, very consistent, and tastes great. Only food related issue is that the fryer always seems to be kept at too low of a temp and items come out soggy. Now the not as great...over the past 3 years there has been a crazy amount of turnover. Used to have an amazing staff, now it's marginal at best. Management seems to change weekly and the menu changes almost as often. Not things I'd generally care about, but with these changes, I've noticed business declining. Like I said, food is great, hopefully the ops side of things gets figured out. read more

SO YUMMY. I went here for my birthday, we all order margaritas. They were so so good. I got the orange cream margarita easily the top three margarita I have ever had!!! I forget which appetizer we got but whatever it was so yummy. I could've eaten just that all day. But I'm glad I didn't. I got the lamb burrito. So tasty. It seemed that only guy was working though. You won't find anything else in South Bend quite like Jesús. The food is absolutely delicious and very fairly priced. I really recommend the chips and guac, but be prepared to like it so much you won't eat your main course! The Yuma fries are also excellent. Give it a try! read more

Today, we found ourselves in South Bend, IN near Notre Dame. After the game, we decided to try Jesus Latin Grill. Upon entering we noticed. Clean and trendy Peruvian restaurant. Unfortunately, we stood in clear view of the staff for over 8 min until I had to flag a server down to ask to be sat. We got an outside table like we wanted. After we were sat, the waiter immediately greeted us and took our drink orders m. He also explained the specials. Our orange popsicle margarita came out quickly and was very tasty. When we got our entrees, several different tacos and I got the special (ribs, steak, with burnt ends). Two people liked their lamb birria , the other did not. My steak/burnt ends was ok. First off... it was HUGE lol! Easily could split it with 2 other people. The plantains and grilled veggies were tasty. The flavor of the seasoning on the steak was delicious. The steak was very burnt on the outside... some areas were delicious but others were like a brick chewing. The other issue is the steak was waaaaay too fatty for me. I probably would get something else next time. Last, it took forever to get our check. I had to ask the bar for our check. The server immediately came out with it. Overall, the food was good. We are very low-key customers, but our dining experience was almost 3 hours due to lack of attention from our server. It seemed they were down to 1 bartender, so drinks took over 30 minutes to arrive, but that doesn't account for the entirety of our review. We had a reservation and were sat 15 minutes late, did not see a waiter for another 15 minutes, and it was yet another 15 minutes before water arrived and a drink order was taken. We decided on Jesus' Grill as a new place to meet up with friends for lunch on a Saturday. The building is beautiful from the outside, great Latin music greats you as you enter. The ambience is lively, upscale casual. We were surprised that the menu was a brunch menu only. We were explained that many of the items were variations of the dinner menu. We were a little off put that everything on the menu was ala carte. Our waitress was friendly and very knowledgeable on the menu. The ingredients and described by the waitress were overwhelming. My husband chose the chorizo biscuits and gravy, I chose the carne asada wet burrito and a french pressed coffee. Our friends additionally ordered several variations of tacos, including shrimp, lamb and vegetable. The wet burrito was huge! It was covered in a yellow sauce that I would describe as similar to a bechamel sauce with Chiles and spices. It was very good. The carne asada was very flavorful. I wish there was a better meat to rice ratio but the flavors made up for it. The french pressed coffee was pretty standard, not game changing but decent. My husband loved the biscuits and chorizo gravy. He said the gravy was flavorful and generous in the gravy. Our friends like all of the tacos, however they raved about the Lamb in particular! Our total was 65 dollars for two meals ALA carte plus french press and a soda. Jesus' Grill was good, a little pricier for brunch than we thought, however they made up for it with a great atmosphere and flavorful food. Great Latin fusion restaurant. Good food and drinks! Normally I give this place a 5 star review. Been here at least 10 times. Came in tonight and was going to give a one star but couldn't. Tonight management failed. Friday night at 6 and literally 5-6 tables. Everything else is open and they give us the worst table in the house. And when I ask for something better they say all reserved. We opted for the bar. And the bartenders were great. Good service and food as usual. So I raised to 2 stars. Originally I had 1 star due to seating. But the service and food and ambiance I love too much. And by the end of dinner I was trying to find a reason to give one or two stars and couldn't. Wonderful food. Had lunch there on Saturday Feb 7. I had the tamales & Peruvian rice. Both excellent. The Tamales are an appetizer but plenty filling for a meal. They are not filled but tasty. The Peruvian rice was mixed with corn off the cob & Latin spices. Also had an excellent Argantinian Chardonnay. The menu had a variety of lunch & brunch items. Drinks and food delivered to the wrong table, water never refilled, no silverware or plates my husband had to get up from the table and go find someone to get them for us. My girlfriend and I met up for lunch and we had the best server! Her name is Chardonnay (sorry as I am sure I'm misspelling it) and she was kind and friendly and offered suggestions for drinks and our meals as well. Everyone loves a great server and this young woman was really helpful and great at her job. It's been a minute since we met up for lunch and her great service added to our long overdue girlfriend time. Ohhh and the food was delicious as always. We have waited for years to try this place and decided we would finally go to celebrate a life achievement. Only reason they are getting 3 stars is because of the service. She was great! Food... another story. I think they are more worried about the appearance than the flavor. Our chips came out dripping in oil and that's all you could taste. I ordered the Peruvian chicken and it was literally buffalo sauce on a chicken thigh with 3 baby Yukon potatoes for $30. My husband ordered the Brazilian picanha which was $40, and he said it tasted ok. I would not have been so displeased with the meal if it wasn't so expensive and on top of that very mediocre. Our total was $102 plus tip. Not sure why there is so much hype around this place. VERY overrated. We won't be back to drop $100 on such a meh experience. read more

Ok here's the good news - the place was lovely and enjoyed the artwork. I had the house margarita and it was way too sweet. Asked for no salt but it came with salt. The elote was really good. The waiter was very nice and outgoing. Now here's the negative - we ordered two mahi dishes but waiter thought it was one. So he only brought out one dish. But he was very apologetic and we just decided to take the second one home but really what bothers me is the mahi was an end piece for both orders I mean come on you spend that kind of money and you get an end piece of fish? The other thing that bothered me is we were gonna go to their sister property, but we wanted to sit on the outdoor patio because it was a nice day and we had dogs. We were told that no problem they accept dogs on their patio we get there and they said no we're not seating out today so we had to leave our dogs in the car. That was a disappointment because it was a very long drive from the other place but whatever. They say it's a Latin place. I was looking forward to more of a Peruvian menu, but apparently that was not a big selling.. it's in a very cool old building so that was nice read more

The food here is always delicious and the service is always great. Our server had such great recommendations and was so knowledgeable. We got several appetizers for the table, including the new guacamole which was very good. The server noticed the chips on the bottom were broken and brought out a whole new platter, which was above and beyond. As always the entrees were great too.
