Quick and friendly, I decided to start with some French onion soup, it was savory and delicious! We stayed at the hotel for labor Day weekend & decided to try out the restaurant one night. Man let me tell you, that filet933 is the BEST steak I have ever had. The chef cooked it @ medium rare like I like it, and it was so good I cut it with a butter knife. My husband had the fish special & liked it as well. He didn't see the filet on the menu & didn't notice I'd ordered it. He didn't see it on the menu cause it's not on there. I knew about it from Yelp. So next time ya go in, ask for the filet! Stayed next door for the past week and tried this tonight. Meal was trash. I put in a simple to go order for two Waygu burgers medium no dressings specifically said no lettuce no tomato no onion nothing just burger medium add provolone and bacon. Service was terrible food sat in window we got back to our room at the adjacent hotel and it was fully dressed and looked burnt. Their solution take the topping off did not remake anything pulled the cheese off added double and bacon bits I kid you not. Also it was almost $50 with a very generous tip. When I looked at the location of this restaurant I noticed it was extremely close to the Saint Mary's/Notre Dame campus but that didn't detour me. I just said " I hope this isnt another college themed restaurant, like so many others in the area." When I arrived I didn't expect that this restaurant would be located in a hotel I was hoping for a traditional stand-alone restaurant not located within a business. So I was somewhat disappointed to see it was. When I walked in the ambience was very nice and sheek a bit non traditional with some of the seating arrangements. I was hoping for more seating options, booths, and privacy but.... the restaurant is technically located in a hotel so I guess that's how is goes. THE FOOD: When I looked at the menu I was very impressed and was eager to try the food. My waitress was very attentive and performed her job well. She didn't miss a beat and made sure I had everything I needed. When my appetizer came out first I noticed how small the portions were. I said to myself " a two year old could eat this and still want more." My lamb skewers were TINY each bite was half the size of my dipping cup!!!!!!!!!!! I was at least hoping that the taste and flavor would make up for the lack of the portions. WRONG!!!!!! The lamb skewers tasted like bland tough beef. And the tzatziki sauce it came with tasted like watered down cheap sour cream. It hardly resembled authentic Greek tzatziki sauce that I had hoped for. Not only was the price for the lamb skewers ridiculous for the portions I received but usually when I go out to eat I get full off my appetizer or have leftovers to take home to save room for my entree. This wasn't the case. I ate all of this appetizer and was still hungry, and so did my boyfriend. His appetizer was extremely small aswell. His Consisted of a quesadilla that was half full of meat and fillings cut into four sections, and tasted like cafeteria food from a high school. He also was still hungry after eating his appetizer so we both ordered soup. And the soup we ordered was worse than appetizers both in taste, quality and portions. The soup tasted like factory style beef chuck from a can in watered down broth and was over priced and was served with stale crackers!!!!! Even progresso serves better soup!!!! When our entee's arrived he had the mojito chicken. It was so peppery and bitter I thought I was sucking on a lemon. Also the mojito Chicken was accompanied with about five very skimpy pieces of asparagus. The only item on his plate that tasted good were the mashed potatoes. I ordered the salmon BLT that was actually pretty good. It was flavorful but nothing special that I couldn't have gotten somewhere else, and my fries were standard chain fast food fries. McDonald's fries are better. But what angered me so much were the prices for the quality and horrible portions. If a restaurant is going to serve people a few bites of food it better be the best few bites EVER. But to charge people what Bistro 933 charges for fast food quality food and meager portions is highway robbery!!! Tisk tisk! Smh. I expected more and got less. But I will say kudos to my waitress she performed her job very well and was a doll. Overall at Bistro 933 your paying for the ambience, location and the name and definitely NOT for the food. If you want similar food go to T.G.I.Friday or someplace similar for waaaaaaay cheaper and bigger portions. read more

This restaurant is the reason that I stay at this Hilton Garden Inn when passing through South Bend. Very good food, and the bartender, Chadd, is one of the best bartenders you'll ever find. He always knows each detail about every menu item, and he makes the best Martini you'll find. read more

The worst service I have ever seen. I went there with my family to get a Friday night meal before the big Norte Dame game the next day. Granted it was a Friday night but there were only three other tables besides us (clearly should have been a red flag for us) The atmosphere was absolutely horrible as it was located in the lobby of the hotel with no walls making it a restaurant- it seems as though it must have been the same place they do their morning buffet. We ordered our food and expected quick service as it was empty and a small restaurant We could look right back in to the kitchen and see the two guys working sitting their twiddling their thumbs doubling nothing as we waited two hours for our food. Servings were absolutely minute, almost the kids meals were bigger than their main courses. The waitress we had was clearly a rude old woman who should have no job in the service industry. We would ask for the simplest task as to grab ketchup and then we had to wait another 30 minutes for each request. The food all came out at separate times but it still managed for all of it to be cold, things were not cooked enough, no addition service or help. Just a pitcher of water and a serve yourself. As we waited 25 minutes for our check we were appalled so see that the 20% tip was already added to the check. In no way, shape, or form should that 'waitress' have revived a full good working tip. It's clear to see now why the service was so bad as she had no incentive to make out experience the best it could be or even check up on anything. Wish I never went there was a waste of time and money, would definitely not recommend to anyone. read more

When I first walked in they just opened so I was the only one there. Adjacent to my hotel (Inn at Saint Mary's). Very nice decor. Clean and spacious. I was by myself so sat at the bar. Bartender was very nice. Bar stools were very hard and uncomfortable. But they have a lot of flat screen TVs. I got the Kobey Burger with fries. I asked for the burger medium and they brought it to me extra well done and burnt. The burger had absolutely no flavor so I had to add a lot of ketchup and mustard. The fries were good though. I also had the firecracker shrimp to go and they were delicious. When they started to get busy (4+ people at the bar) they started to get slow. There was only 1 bartender but it took 15 minutes to refill a drink (while sitting at the bar) and a separate 15 minutes to place a to go order. I can't blame the bartender because she was very nice and she was trying her best to serve all of the customers without getting frustrated. I blame management for not staffing correctly. By the way, I think management was there (a guy in a sweater with gray hair) but it seemed like he was worthless not helping at all and confused. Anyways I give my bartender and decor 5 stars but the management and food 1 or below 1. I also got a small Caesar salad and I couldn't pick the salad up with the fork and there were no croutons. Most of the food is very expensive but I personally believe if you pay top dollar you get top quality. I'd say try it out if your staying at Inn at Saint Mary's or Hilton Garden Hotel because of convenience but don't drive out of the way for this place. read more

Arrived into SouthBend later than we anticipated. Due to the size of our vehicle we had limitations. Taxi and Uber were non existent and the hotel restaurant; Bistro 933 was closed. We spoke with Missy at the bar (she was wiping down the bar and closing up for the night) about our options. She offered up a beverage while we discussed any potential restaurant or pizza delivery that may still be open much less open on a Monday. Missy even assisted in calling local establishments that she knew if, that we didn't find online. After striking out Missy went above and beyond by taking it upon herself to get us a light meal to hold us over. She provided an adult beverage and stayed around to take care of us. Missy was fantastic with her kindness and customer service,and the bright spot to a very long day. read more

I had a fantastic 4 course meal consisting of delicious lamb chops with Roasted Brussels to start. Then we had a salad of smoked salmon wrapped peaches, melon, baby mozzarella and balsamic dressing. We also had these amazing fresh biscuits with whipped strawberry butter that was just divine! For the main we had a espresso rubbed beef tenderloin that was perfectly cooked. To finish off, we got the caramel corn Creme Brûlée which was top notch. The service was also great and very attentive. read more

We visited Bistro 933 this morning and tried the breakfast buffet, what a refreshing experience! The food was outstanding, most of it is offered fresh to order the omelettes and sour dough French toast were perfect the hot and cold plates offered some of the best bacon and fresh fruit around. All the beverages are included they have soft soft drinks, coffee, and several juice options available. Our host Larry was polite, very accommodating and made sure the meal was outstanding! The chef's were friendly, offered suggestions for fresh ingredients they had available in the kitchen for omelette's and really went above and beyond. read more

Friendly staff, okay food. The salmon was overcooked (not flaky) (but a decent piece of salmon) and the couscous was the big kind of couscous, and not very interestingly seasoned. The salad was basically giant pieces of butter lettuce with some cheese and walnuts, so not that tasty or interesting or easy to eat. read more

I thought this was just another Hilton corporate afterthought but it's not! Privately owned, this restaurant competes with high end dining venues because of the high quality chefmanship (yes it's a word) and awesome customer service. Jenny was the only waitress and had a cast on her foot and still kicked butt. John & Ben were the chefs and after one bite of the jasmine rice I needed to ask how they achieved that flavor. No spoilers. They will tell you if you order it. In a nutshell it's not easy. I know I leave some honest but poor reviews on yelp but I also leave good ones when they deserve it. I wrote for food magazines so I don't give out easy compliments. This restaurant deserves praise. I will be back! read more

Wants to be more than it is. We go here often, as it is close to my parents house. When it first opened it was better and the menu was more diversified. Seems they wanted to go more high class and changed the menu and jacked the prices. The food is good. The service is so so, hit or miss depending on the night. If you are going to pay these kinds of prices you'd be better off at LaSalle Grill. Again, the food is good, but overpriced. Updated review. Menu is better. Service is still hit and miss. After reading previous reviews, it appears this restaurant and experience at the restaurant is hit or miss. Unfortunately for my wife and I, it was a MAJOR miss for New Years Eve. Reservations were for 6pm, which we were promptly seated. I noticed one of the head Chef's clearing tables and setting them, which was odd, when we first sat. 15 minutes later, we were finally acknowledged, albeit by a 'drive by" server who basically threw the drink menu on our table. 15 minutes later (yes, it's now 6:30), we received bread, and the bartender took our drink order. I asked who our server was, and she said " I don't know, we're really busy". So I don't really care about your problems I must say, just like my co-workers, customers, and boss doesn't care about my "busy-ness" at my place of employment as an excuse for incompetence and rudeness. At 6:40, we received our drinks, which came with another excuse of my wife's being made wrong, which is why it took so long. I asked if we could, I don't know, place an appetizer order, and our eventual server (which was the bartender) said sure, and then asked if we wanted to place our dinner order. Typically when we go to a fine dining establishment, we're there for the long haul, and enjoy each course of our meal with patience and talking. If I'm going to drop $100 + tip, we're going to enjoy it, and expect to be treated as guests, not fast food customers. We placed our order, and at 7:15 our dinner came, and no appetizer. I told the server to cancel the appetizer, and attempted to place another drink order, but she was off. FYI, I was monitoring other tables, and the lack of service and professionalism was not only apparent with us, but throughout the restaurant. I ordered the duck, and my wife ordered Farmer's Market Pappardelle. My wife had to add salt to get some type of flavor, and my duck was below average, and the accompanying potatoes were cold and bland, while the green was cold and flavorless. We never received our 2nd drink, and had to ask someone to remove our plates when we were finished. At 7:45, I approached the bar to attempt to get our "server" her attention for our bill, but to no avail. 10 minutes or so later, she dropped it off. I also had a coupon, and the coupon specifically said that it "does not include gratuity", which dining coupons rarely if ever do. And I ALWAYS tip according to the full price, not the discounted price. When my bill returned, I saw it was for dinner minus coupon plus 20% gratuity! I questioned the server, and her response was "that's our policy". I was fed up with the entire experience, and really didn't find it worth it to fight over this. All and all, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, and trust me, I'm not one to provide negative feedback unless it's absolutely warranted, and this was. From first look at the menu....we were thrilled! So many choices we couldn't pick. We thought we would start with the sprouts and spinach dip. After 20 minutes the waitress told us she was out of spinach dip so we opted for calamari. The calamari was old and chewy. I doubt the oil has ever been changed. Our drinks came after the appetizers. And we asked for plates to share 3 time with no luck. Then the soup came an hour after the appetizers arrived. We waited for another round of drinks..... 40 minutes. We kept asking about the food and after and hour and a half went by, we wanted to leave. The bitchy waitress shows up and says "sorry but I don't know what you want me to do. I'm the supervisor." Other people in the restaurant left. We missed our other engagement waiting for salty undercooked food. I spit the first 2 bites of lamb chops and pork chop out. The berg salad was the only edible thing on the table. We left with a hefty $150 bill and remained hungry. The $150 was after they comped part of the inedible food. Disgusting food, worse service. Our experience with a group of six last night was very good indeed. Our waitress, Ingrid, attended us exceptionally well and the chef staff saw to it that made it to our campus event in plenty of time. I stayed at the Inn at Saint Mary's (which is next door). After a long day of driving I didn't feel like thinking about where to eat dinner. The front desk recommended this restaurant. My lack of motivation proved to be my demise. I ordered the roast chicken with saffron cream sauce, green beans, and mashed potatoes. My waitress was very sweet and attentive. The food, however, was another story. The mashed potatoes were actually a potato soup who was having an identity crisis. I would have needed a spoon to properly finish it all. The green beans were oily, gummy, and tasteless. They could have easily passed as microwaved green beans smothered in oil. The saffron cream sauce had a gelatin consistency and it had a metallic aftertaste. The only saving grace of the meal was the chicken. It was cooked perfectly, very moist and flavorful. I would ask this restaurant to take more time in creating excellent side dishes and not just afterthoughts. If you are going to present yourself as an upper scale restaurant you must follow through in quality across the board. read more

Wow, I am surprised to see so many bad reviews.I have been here twice, and each time was a good experience.The first time was about a year and a half ago, my ladyfriend and I each had a salad, and, on a whim, ordered salmon on top of it.It was listed as an option for said salad. Man, whatta great choice that was! They put a huge chunk of salmon on an innocent enough salad, and it was only another $4, I think. The second time was about 2 weeks ago, and a different ladyfriend and I went there on Sunday for the brunch, and it was a great deal.Omelets made to order, as are waffles, french toast, and fried or scrambled eggs as well. Great choice of great breads,top shelf coffees and juices, bagels.We got there at 7 ish in the morning, as we wanted to beat the church folk who, I was told, descend on the place every Sunday.This buffet is a daily thing, I guess, and it is from 7 am to about 11, I think. Only $10. The bartender, Ingrid, was very helpful in telling us about the buffet. I have never eaten a full dinner here, so I can't comment on the dinner menu fare, but what I have had, breakfast buffet and a lunch, were both very much successful food endeavors.Will report back when I do do a dinner. read more

Will not return to this restaurant. We arrived at 6:45 and was seated. Waitress told us they were busy and to expect a longer than normal stay. We were served our dinner at 8:30! They were out of bread, only filled our drinks once, there was a hair in my wife's salad, and one in my burger. My burger was burnt, one of our guest ask for "No dry rub" on her steak - but they put it on anyways. Highly Disappointing meal. We will not return. This is our 2nd visit - first time the service was not great, but the food was worth returning for. The 2nd time we had poor service, and poorer food. Really had a nice waitress, but management needs to have better staffing models, and a cleaner kitchen. read more
