After my GPS took me on a scenic tour of South Bend, I almost gave up. I called the restaurant, and the staff graciously guided me in. From the outside, the brick building looks like a standard office, but once you step inside, you realize you've stumbled upon a total hidden gem. It feels like a beautiful secret. Upon entering, the entire staff welcomed me so warmly that I felt like I was catching up with old friends. I walked past the elegant bar and chose a seat in the dining room. The ambiance is romantic, relaxing, beautifully decorated, and quaint--yet completely comfortable if you are dining alone. I opted for the tasting menu, which is served as a total surprise. For a true foodie, this is pure heaven. I didn't dislike a single dish. In fact, each plate brought so much joy that I caught myself closing my eyes just to savor the flavors and the atmosphere. As I told the staff on my way out: "The food was so good, it makes you want to cry!" (Happy tears, of course!). If you're a local who hasn't been, GO. If you're traveling for work, GO. If you have a special occasion, GO. Life is short--take the road trip to South Bend just for Roselily. The menu changes so I'll be back every chance I get! My only actual complaint? The owner wasn't there for me to beg him to open a second location in Lexington, KY!

So I can't speak too much on service with this visit nor how the drinks were (alcohol menu looks pretty nice), but I can talk about the food! So with the $19 restaurant week promotion, I could choose from a list of 5 starters and a list of 5 mains. I got the signature Navarre salad without the gorgonzola cheese and the white basalmic dressing on the side as my starter and the Waldorf chicken salad croissant with potato chips as my main. Chicken salad is a favorite of mine but I HATE when it is goopy and mushy. Gotta have that texture! So the to-go bag was quite light when I picked it up so my fat butt was worried I had paid twenty bucks for two bites of food. Nope! There was a decent amount of food inside. Let's start with the Navarre salad. Normally, this retails for $8. The produce was fresh and the candied walnuts were incredible. I do wish there were more green apples on it though. 8/10. Next, I gotta give a 10/10 to the fabulous potato chips. These were something special. Oh jeez, give me a whole bag of these tasty crispy slices of potatoes! Lastly, I gotta give only 7/10 to the chicken salad croissant. This originally sells for $17. Not a bad score at all, but yeah, this chicken salad was a bit too goopy for me. I am very impressed by how high class Traditions looks and feels. The staff is quite cheery and made me feel excited to be there. I was able to try 4 of the drink options including Sweater Weather which tastes like the perfect Fall festive sangria-style cocktail. My second favorite is Warm and Fuzzy (a rum-based spiced drink) which was pretty strong, but tastes good too. Of the variety of appetizers and dinner options I tasted, the 5 cheese grilled cheese is my absolute flavorful favorite and the Chardonnay-braised Porkchop served with fresh vegetables and mashed potatoes will have me coming back!! I can't get enough of their food options, but I'm most happy the drinks are filled to brim and the food will fill you up! My wife and I have eaten here three times and have always had a positive experience. The food is priced moderately given the taste and quality, and the drink specials such as $2 Goose Island 312s are great (especially for a hotel). Finally, the level of service we received was unrivaled for the Michiana area. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and empowered to make things right if there was an issue. A group of my friends and I (6 total) came in after hearing about the restaurant, from some of our mutual friends, and decided to give it a try. We were greeted quickly by TJ (who also happened to be our server) and were given a table quickly. The menu had a lot of variety and the food was cooked great. Stayed at the Embassy Suites, had a great room and enjoyed the happy hour before dining. Service was excellent. The pork chop was cooked perfectly and the serving sizes were generous with tasty sides. We had a nice wine pairing with our meal, and left very satisfied. I even went so far to call back a second time and got excuses as to why they include onion, tomato and lettuce in an order that is excluded on tomato, onion, and lettuce. Onion makes me sick and everything had an onion flavor to it so I spent $20 at Grubhub to not have dinner and when I tried to explain that to the manager, she said well so many people get upset because it says that it comes with that. So I told her I said that's fine. I told her that I'm got these things going on and it's not her fault the Grubhub delivery driver isn't her fault, but the reason that the order was wrong on several different levels, not cut in half no mail on the sandwich not extra pickles not extra napkins, not extra salt, etc. etc. and everything tasted like onions so of course I don't wanna eat it and I got excuses so I told her I won't use her restaurant again and she said OK. I would recommend that she don't go there because they don't fix things when they screw them up. I have no intention of ordering or going to that restaurant ever again. And it's funny because my nephew used to work there and I used to love the place. Well I guess I'm done with it.

For the entrees, my wife got filet mignon and grilled shrimp with garlic mashed potatoes and a salad. I got the blacked redfish, which also had grilled shrimp, lump crab meat and a sauce. I also ordered the brussel sprouts and loaded baked potato soup. Our server came with our salad and soup, and told me they were out of the potato soup and brought me chicken tortilla soup instead. It was alright, but I was looking forward to the potato soup. Our entrees came out and they looked very good. My wife really enjoyed hers. Mine tasted good also, but the fish was undercooked and inedible in places. I ate what I could, but it was disappointing. If the fish had been properly cooked, it would've been a 4 star review. We will come back, I'm all for 2nd chances, but my experience fell short of the mark.

We also have this obsession with ordering Brussels sprouts when we go out and they're available. I will give the sprouts 3 out of 5 because they had way too much balsamic vinegar on them. This rating doesn't bring my overall rating down because it's likely they are very good any other time. As if all that weren't enough to eat, we ordered the 8" Cinnamon Streusel pizza with vanilla bean ice cream off their seasonal monthly menu. Oh boy was that good!! If given the opportunity to come back to South Bend, this will be my go to place. PS... I'm not a beer drinker, but it seems they have lots of craft beer on tap. It's considered a gastropub. From a cool space to the welcoming vibe, The Lauber gets it right. I love the variety of seating areas for parties of all sizes and the overall comfortable atmosphere. The food is really good with a homestyle feeling. The generous portion sizes are definitely appreciated and I always end up with enough to take home.

My daughter-in-law made reservations and when we arrived, there were no handicap spaces at all due to the 4th of July fireworks, so my son had us get out of our car and went and parked it (we drove two cars) A valet option would have been nice. When we entered, the hostess told us to sit anywhere. We told her we had reservations on the patio, so she led us outside. We realized on this very hot and sticky day that there wasn't adequate fans to help move the air, so we requested to be seated inside (remember we were told to sit anywhere) We were then told they weren't seating inside, although there was a couple tables of people inside. The place wasn't the least bit busy, so I don't know why we couldn't sit inside. I have health issues and my ankles and feet swell with humid weather, which is one of the reasons we moved to southern Arizona. I even told whoever was seating us that I would swell up but they didn't care. Keep in mind the reservations were made days in advance and we didn't know it was going to be so awful outside. The next issue was the menu. They only offered a limited 4th of July menu, so all our original choices were out the window. They were not busy when we arrived at 6 and still not busy when we left at 7, so I think their expectations were overblown. There were also another table or two seated inside, which was odd since they weren't seating inside. I will give them points for the breakfast smash burger and fries cooked in tallow. The food was good. It wasn't to-die-for, but no complaints. That's the only reason I'm giving them 2 stars. The crappy seating attitude and limited menu knocked off a star and the fact I could barely wear my sandals by the time we finished because my feet and ankles were swollen and huge knocked off another star. I guess they also don't expect people with kids to eat at their restaurant. We ordered a lemonade for the 3 year old and they brought a 16 ounce cup with an easily- removed rubber lid, which she immediately removed and spilled her drink before we could grab her. I ask the wait staff for a children's cup and they said that was it. The rubber lid counted I guess. Keep in mind our water glasses were less than half the size of their "children's" cup but they were made of glass. I'll give them a solid meh and a one finger salute for their attitude.

Reuben should be corned beef, what she had was NOT corned beef, it looked like roast beef, she said it tasted like leftover prime rib from last night. The fries were good though. I had angel hair pasta shrimp scampi. The shrimp was good, properly cooked without being rubbery, good flavor. The angel hair was badly overcooked, clumpy, mushy. Angel hair is easy to overcook, because it's so thin, but if you are going to offer it on the menu, the cooks need to know how to keep an eye on it. The worst part was the noise/music/DJ. It was so horribly loud, we could not talk. The next table were screaming at each other to be heard. We asked the servers, twice, to turn it down. The first said it was some sort of event, the DJ was running it, and they couldn't change it. The second said she would ask the manager, and I saw her walk up the the manager, talk to him, and saw him shake his head. I opened up the decibel meter on my phone, and it recorded an average of 87 decibels, with a peak of 90 decibels. Equivalent to a large lawn mower. Hearing protection recommended for extended exposure. In retrospect, we should have left when they first said no. We did see another couple who did leave. I would have given 1 star, but because we've had good experience in the past, I'll average it as a 2 star.

This was served over what was supposed to be polenta. But it was lumpy and flavorless. The flavor profiles of both the duck and the pork were missing, the sauce the jois, everything was off. We had a special signed card to greet us for a birthday welcome- but no offer of dessert or a menu or anything- just a don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I had the 3-egg special with choice of bacon, sausage or links, potatoes and choice of toast or biscuit. For the price, I thought it was about in-line with a tourist place. Our server was attentive and professional; I think her name was Gabby with the pink hair. Good kid, ask for her to be your server as she knows what she's doing. Restaurant overlooks the pool which is nice and you might see some of the wildlife hanging out sunning. I would return here again when in the South Bend area not far off the highway. The whole property is newer and well cared. Clean restrooms too! I forgot to take pics.
