Our second visit to Brasserie 23 was Valentine's Day brunch. We arrived on time for our reservation and were promptly seated. Our server Sean was attentive and helpful. The restaurant is clean and attractive. I had the Croque Madame, which was literally perfect, and better than those I had in Paris. The bread was perfectly toasted, the cheese perfectly melted, the egg perfectly cooked (not runny, not overly hard), the ham perfectly salted. Others in my group enjoyed the Short Ribs Benedict, Grand Bebe, and Tortilla de Patatas. (I'll note our first visit was the morning after a Notre Dame home game, and their stores were depleted: we could have anything on the menu as long as it was chicken. :) The chicken dishes we had that visit were very well done as well - moist and juicy on the inside and lovely on the outside. No one enjoyed their dinner. The portions are small, prices are high, the flavor is lacking, and it took awhile to get our food. Onion Soup Gratinee - $11 - Needed salt and wasn't very flavorful. 2/5 stars. Chorizo and Shrimp - $22 - This was easily the best dish. Cooked well, good flavor, and a decent portion (probably because the price is so high). 4/5 stars. Chicken and Leek Puff Pastry - $26 - The pastry was lacking. It was soggy, weird taste to it, and just not pleasant. The filling was also mediocre. Don't get this. 0/5 stars. L'Entrecote de Paris (Steak Frites) - $45 - The steak was chewy, the fries were over salted. For $45, this was not enough steak, whatsoever. Not like it was a good cut either. It's a rip off. 0/5 stars. Pan Roasted Duck Breast - $36 - My mom and I both ordered this, and we could combine both of our dishes to make ONE duck breast. Portion was horribly small. Never have I ever been given HALF a duck breast. The sauce wasn't good either and it was broken. 2/5 stars cause the rest of it was cooked fine. The birthday dessert was a scoop of ice cream and some stale cinnamon pastry thing. This was wildly bad. If the flavors were on point, the prices would be understandable. But the flavors were bad, the prices are expensive, and we waited a very long time to get our food. We couldn't get into a different restaurant that night (it was a Saturday night on move in weekend), but this one we could get into, and now we know why. Don't go here. read more

Seven of us, including our grandson (9) popped in for a late lunch. It was a wise choice! A pretty big space but nicely laid out. They weren't super busy, yet it took a little to be seated. No big deal. The table started with an a couple of appetizers. The herb and chile whipped feta. Divine! Steak tartare, excellent and a lot of garlic (that was a good thing!). There was a (French) onion soup added and I was told it was excellent. Entree wise, a Caesar salad with chicken (good) the roasted chicken with noodles (excellent)-perfect chicken. Great flavor. Great broth, albeit a bit thin. Two ordered the chicken and leek puff pastry. That was spectacular! The Basque seafood stew, which was really nice, however if you don't care for chorizo you may want to skip that. Now, part of the reason our server Lorraine was awesome. Our grandson got a cheeseburger. Now there is no kids menu. So the burger has raclette cheese and grilled onions. She swapped the cheese for Gruyère (we asked no onions) and it was devoured! Great frites, too! Oh, and they aren't shy with the bread here! Plenty for the table! A few Arnold Palmers (very tart, I loved it, others had to add sugar to tame it). Can't wait to return. Second time here. Our favorite stop on a long roadtrip from our home in Salt Lake City then on to Buffalo NY & State College PA & Arkansas. Food is consistently excellent & our server, SHELDON was experienced, friendly & personable. We never lacked for any attention & service. Wine choices were excellent. Meals were wonderful, as was our previous visit in 2024. Mussels were maybe the best we've had in 4 decades of fine dining. Loved our "Easter Eve" dinner. Beautiful surroundings. That's it. An empty brunch place? We ordered chicken Caesar salads and onion soup. $60 bill for like 10 pieces of not fresh romaine (spines were dark red and brown) a very lemon forward ceasar dressing a poached egg and chicken breast. We used go love going here when it was Bin 23 since my wife is gluten free and they had lots of tasty options for her. The Brasserie 23 menu has precisely one entree that is gluten free, a seafood stew which does not sound appetizing at all. So this restaurant is now off our list. And with so many people being gluten free these days their menu is puzzling and massively disappointing. read more

Our server was fantastic, but for some reason, the timing of the food was a bit off during this visit. One appetizer came out last, and one of our entrées was delayed compared to the others. We hopped and hopped on in after dropping my brother off after college move-in. Easy to book the res at 7:30p, popped in around 7:15, waited a couple minutes, seated. Waitress shot over her recs, servide was quick, atmosphere and ambiance was great! It's a good mix of not being overly nice nor overly not-nice. Drankkkk: Water + the Tour of Italy Flight. Would recommend. I stg the tables have the largest wine glasses ever. Plus a wine flight! How fun. Food: My mom saw someone else getting the soup so we said screw it and ordered it too. Basically a french onion soup. I've never had it before but it was tasty, definitely give it a go. For the main entree, I got the streak frites, because what else is there to get besides the best dang food item known to man: steak and fries. They pour a sauce off to the side. Idk what it was but i was dragging steak and fries into it, very tasty. On top of that, the fries were top notch, seasoned perfectly. Amazing meals, appetizers, and experience. Outdoor dining was an option, which we took advantage of on the beautiful evening. Bright red flowers were in full bloom in the planters. The food was very authentic French with the delicious and aromatic sauces. Hubs and I had the whipped Feta Appetizer with French bread, highly recommend, I had the Salmon, prepared exactly as I had ordered: Med Rare with an French 75 Cocktail, and Hubs had the duck and a French Red Wine, the only noticeable difference between La Tour d'Argent Duck and this one was that the Brasserie duck did not have an assigned number ;) Both meals were delicious, served hot, and beautifully plated. We shared the Profiteroles for dessert with Americanos. The wine list was nice; there were also some featured mocktails, which I always appreciate, but no N/A beer options. We will definitely return. Excited to try the rebrand, but still many of the same issues as Bin 23: -waited 15 minutes to be served or acknowledged once seated (forgotten about) -didn't have items needed to make either of the two cocktail options -proportions of cheese to bread for the baked Brie was really off, asked for more and was told they didn't have enough. They offered us regular table bread (and charged for the 3inch "loaf") -food was incredibly slow to come out of the kitchen- over 60 minutes from order to entrees arriving (30+ minutes of lag after the appetizers were finished) -Was told dessert would be "just a moment" only to find out 30 minutes later that the ticket was never given to the kitchen because they "were not accepting tickets right now". Had to finally cancel the order and leave due to the wait. Overall, INCREDIBLY disappointing experience. No apology of compensation for either the water time or missing items. Wow..this had to be one of the MOST disappointing meals I have had in a long time. I'm not afraid to spend money but this meal should have been free TBH. We had a party of 10 - 5 of us with birthdays - made an advance reservation in light of large party. Things started well but once the main course was served - YIKES - all of the food was lukewarm at best - how long had it been sitting there? - sauces and gravy literally congealed on most plates - is there no plate warmer, food warmers or salamander? One of our party ordered the salmon dill dish - had a dietary concern (no pepper) - no problem we were told only the ratatouille had pepper..and could sub out a vegetable - later told oh, potato puree has white pepper - ok, double the veggie - then the salmon comes out - literally a piece of salmon on a plate - no veggie, no sauce, no garnish at all. Where was the sauce..oh, found out it had pepper in it but we were never told that until the single piece of salmon was brought to the table - and salmon did not come out at same time as other entrees and the veggie came out even later. the puff pastry chicken and the chicken with noodles were also barely warm - again, with congealed sauce as was the short rib....Duck breast did not have fat properly rendered - second cup of coffee also came out cold???? No recognition for birthdays other than 2 signs on the table..no dessert, nothing. Caesar salad was weird with a cold hard poached egg. - overall, an embarrassment to restaurant and me - who selected this place based upon good reviews. I have NO idea what was happening in that kitchen but keeping food hot was certainly not part of it. They took the salmon off the bill - as they should ($31 for piece of salmon and a bit of asparagus brought out after the fact) and 15% off the total bill and then tried to sell us on their 'brunch' - no thank you - while the appetizers and drinks were fine, pretty skimpy on the bread/crostini - asked for more and they charged for it possibly? I've had better.. and much cheaper!! ..meals at the local diner down the street. We have been here several times and the food is always very good. Service is hit or miss but tonight was next level bad. Our server didn't refill water until asked, brought the wine I asked for when I was finished eating and didn't bring out our food or ever ask how it was. Worse yet was the manager was sitting at the bar on her laptop and never asked the 3 - yes 3 total tables that were there at 6:30 on a Thursday night how things were and in fact was having a meeting with the team during service which kept the servers from paying any attention to their tables. The ambiance is so lovely, like a classy French bistro. It smelled like garlic and shallots when I walked in and immediately knew I was in the right place. We sat at the bar and Paul made great recommendations as well as great conversation. Absolutely a place you could enjoy a glass of wine alone at the bar or have a cute date night with your person. I haven't been to Bin23 since last year's spring/summer. I heard from my friend who is a patron in there that they recently changed their menu and it seems like it. I was in love with their ahi tuna salad and lamb chops which were both my faves. Now I don't see it in the new menu which saddens me I do hope they put my faves back on their menu. read more
