He makes a point about saying that he won't make you look stupid or make fun of you, if you volunteer, and he doesn't. They have some more classical magic tricks and some more numbers oriented. But it's all quite fun. For some of them, we were really scratching our heads and thinking how did they do that!?? I would say don't try to work it out... and you won't lose out on the magic :-) The area they do the show is wide rather than deep, so if you are in the center, you'd have very good seats. I wasn't quite sure about how it would look from the ends. We weren't quite sure how the seats were assigned, but it seems to us they were set in advance. They give you pretty decent popcorn and even brought us a refill cuz we liked it and ate it all! Drinks etc are pricey as you would expect. They tell you that they will only take your order for the full show at the start but we saw them taking orders during a break. Our server was very nice and polite! I highly recommend doing this!

Unfortunately, he never appeared. What made the experience even more disappointing was that the theater apparently knew in advance that Javi Benitez would not be performing but continued to advertise him anyway. Customers were not informed of the substitution until just before the show began, after everyone had already arrived and paid for their tickets. Had I known that the advertised performer would not be appearing, I would not have attended. Continuing to advertise a performer who is no longer scheduled and waiting until the last minute to tell customers is misleading and shows a lack of respect for patrons. The replacement performer may have been talented, but that's not who I purchased a ticket to see. Customers deserve accurate advertising and timely notice of significant changes to a show's lineup. Unfortunately, this experience has left me with little confidence in Smoke & Mirrors Theater's business practices. I hope they improve their communication with customers and consider offering refunds or other compensation when advertised performers are unable to appear. I cannot recommend attending future shows unless the theater is more transparent about changes to its advertised lineup.

The tricks he had ranged from ridiculously simple (purposefully and comedically so) to legitimately impressive. He got almost everyone involved and he had everyone in stitches at one point or another during the show. Matt was great at communicating and tailored the show to the audience - mostly young adults and a few very young kids. We aren't into balloon gags or ventriloquism, and Matt gratefully obliged our request not to do either. He had them all come up and sit on the floor in front of the stage. And when he called for the "big kids" to come up as well I had to go sit on the floor with my sons for a nice second row seat. He was one of the most entertaining magicians I have ever seen locally. He was able to get many of the kids involved both up on the stage and in the audience. The pace was perfect and the tricks were a good mix of funny and new and classic old school magic. Some of the adults were even brought into the act. Anybody that can keep the attention of 45 kids for 45 minutes and have them laughing and clapping and staring wide eyed at some of the tricks deserves to be called an entertainer.

We joke about the tricks that he did specifically for the bride and groom along with tricks done for our guests (about 40 people). Overall, Francis Menotti is very nice, flexible, well groomed and not pretentious. His jokes maybe a little corny, but the magic/illusions definitely makes up for it. Even, as I write this review, I still wonder how he knew what word my wife would circle. He totally exceeded our expectations and we still have very fond memories of our 10yr anniversary.

My husband and I had our official ceremony in Vegas, but wanted to throw a fun party with our friends and family back home in Philadelphia. We had seen Francis perform at a couple of local shows and were thoroughly entertained and astonished by his fun demeanor and deft skills. We thought, "why not have him entertain our guests at the 'local' wedding party?" So glad we did! Francis showed up and immediately began blowing us away with a great, laid-back attitude mixed with some of the most unbelievable tricks I've ever seen (and I've seen magicians!) He is friendly, clever and incredibly talented, and would be appropriate for any type of function. He made it around to everyone (about 100 guests) and even customized a couple of special tricks just for us and our wedding (we even got to keep a personalized card deck he used for an amazing illusion)! If you want someone who's amazing, professional, reliable and classy (not cheesy!), then Francis is the guy you're looking for.
