I looked around and found that PEL in San Francisco has a great program for him because they have a curriculum designed for kindergarteners which focuses on phonograms by the Spalding Method. Since he enrolled at the Junior PEL English Language Arts program, he started to pronounce words more accurately. His vocabulary and dictation have also expanded and he is very confident now with using new words. The unique method and individualized lesson plan at PEL work very well for him. I'm happy that he has displayed so much improvement in just 3 months. Nowadays, he is motivated to learn everyday and likes to say "I love the PEL program!". The staff is so kind and caring with the children, and seem to feel a deep connection with the school. My son's infant teacher Maria has been there more than ten years. The site supervisor Bea has also been there several years and is a positive and energetic force. And Joanna, the new director, was a long time lead teacher who has rejoined the staff after a couple years at a Montessori school. My family are not VA employees - we live in the neighborhood - but we really appreciate the VA connection with the school. Since many parents work on campus at the VA they are able to drop by to volunteer or visit, and there's a lot of transparency as a result. I also love that thanks to frequent nature walks and outdoor activities my son now feels such a sense of comfort and familiarity with our local area. We'll go on walks and he'll point out to me "the Y tree area" or "the troll bridge" and I can see that these landmarks are an important part of his day to day life at school. I love that he's growing up with a sense of independence and comfort with the outdoors, and I absolutely credit The Lands End School for that.

I could see that kids feel themselves comfortable and confidently. I really like all of the activities she plans for the them.
