Hit and miss - Pros: I recommend the salmon teriyaki bowl that comes with edamame and some kind of pickled cabbage and carrots. However, the last order was much skimpier on the vegetables. Con: unfortunately, Indian dish from a previous order was very soupy and disappointing. Another thumbs down was the most recent order crab macaroni which was missing the chunks of crab! and was overly salted to the point of being inedible. Jenny in Customer service was responsive and understanding and did refund the bad dish but it took a couple of days longer than it should have. Pro: Best dessert was the rugelah which tasted authentic and delicious. Pro: The delivery people are great. They arrive early and on time. I do think the food is overpriced, and considering the decline in quality on some items. But I would consider using the service again, being an optimist! read more

My sister was lovely enough to send us gift certificates after an accident and surgery had me off my feet for weeks. More than the food, what really sets them apart is the incredible customer service. I received both a card and call checking in to see how my first order was the following week and the wonderful delivery driver was so amazing from the first delivery. Jessie and Laurent put together an AMAZING Thanksgiving menu package and I ordered just about everything on the menu. The food was delivered to our doorstep at no charge (above minimum cost requirement), and had no tax. I also used the $10 off first order yelp code (YELP) that they have at the time. Considering the news with other takeout orders from other companies not making their delivery time, I'm fortunate that Jessie and Laurent were professional and arrived the day they said it would arrive (Monday Nov 23rd). No specific time was scheduled, but they arrived at around 10:30am. All items are color coded with a list of instructions on how to prepare, which is mostly a lot of reheating in the oven. The ham took an hour, the turkey took 1.25 hours, and some of the side dishes took anywhere from 15-25 mins. Considering I wanted the food to be warm at the same time, it's a bit tricky to do, but I just bulked some of the items into the oven and extended the overall time by ~25% or so. Overall, the entire food was SUPER DELICIOUS. I'll run it down: Turkey (5/5) - Not dry at all. I botched the turkey a bit (burnt a bit of the top on one side), but it still came out incredibly moist and tender and no rawness at all. Turkey, mashed potato, gravy, cranberry, ham, stuffing combo. Try it all in one (or two) bite(s) for that Thanksgiving meal effect. Make sure to get the ratios you like. I personally like just a hint of cranberry to go with an otherwise equally mixed ratio of the rest. Ham (5/5) - The star of the show. The ham is NOT overly salty compared to most hams I've tried. You can just eat it on it's own without the need to neutralize the flavor with mashed potatoes (although a good thing to do too!). The Half Honey and Brown Sugar sauce is to die for! I don't know what's in it, but I taste some mustard seeds and flavored the ham very well. My only gripe is that I wish they'd given more than just a cup of the sauce for a whole ham. I basted the rind of the ham during the heating and used whatever remained for each individual slices. I was only able to cover 2-3 slices before running out. This whole ham produced about 30 slices, so you can see my inkling for more. Niman Ranch Beef Bourguignon (3/5) - This was probably the least popular of the bunch. It tasted just average and I think it's because it didn't complement the other dishes at all. It's best served as it's own standalone meal. The meat was a bit drier than the rest. Heavenly Whipped Potatoes (5/5) -- All I can say is, I wish I got a much bigger size, and then double the order. This is truly a heavenly, fluffy dish! Cranberry Raisin Bread Stuffing (5/5) -- I was skeptical since there's a lot of cranberry going on already with the stuffing and chutney, but this was delectable. Great texture, and complements the entire meal very well. Roasted Brussel Sprouts Butternut Squash & Balsamic Reduction (4/5) -- There was a lot of flavor in this that I can barely handle it all. However, that's why I have the mashed potatoes to balance it all out. This was a lot of flavor and works with the butternut squash soup. Butternut Squash Soup with Candied Pecans (5/5) -- Buttery thick goodness. This was the first item I tried and was a really good appetizer for the entire meal! The candied pecans is a nice touch and adds some light crunchy texture which makes it more enjoyable to eat. Cranberry, Apple and Pear Chutney (2/5) -- I admire the ambition with 3 different fruits. This was a lot for me to handle and I prefer something a bit more mild in flavor. I can taste each individual fruit, which isn't terrible but it lacked an identity or theme. I couldn't quite appreciate it on its own. I definitely needed to eat this with the rest of the food, but it didn't quite add anything with it's overly abundant flavors that masked the flavor from the main entrees. Toasted Pecan Pie (5/5) -- Ultimate balance of flavors. Whoever baked this from the J&L team deserves a standing ovation. It's the kind of pecan pie where it's not super sweet or nutty, and keeps you eating more because it's so balanced, and before you know it, there's no more. And that's what happened in a matter of seconds. My wife claims this to be the best pecan pie she's ever had (and she's a dessertie), and was looking to see if Jessie and Laurent offered this dessert on the regular. To our dismay, we did not see it on the menu... ... ...yet? I should have prefaced this with saying that some of my family members and in-laws don't do Thanksgiving and actually are apathetic to turkey in general. I took a risk with trying Jessie and Laurent, and I'm so glad I did. I managed to convert all of them. ALL .OF. THEM. Jessie and Laurent, you stole our hearts and we're ordering from you again next year and going to make it more sizable. We'll also look to try other items a bit more regularly. I've been ordering from J&L for several years, and have always found the food quality, service, value, and customer service to be exceptional. It's easy to start and stop (you order what you want weekly), and it's wonderful to get a handful of fresh items delivered weekly that I can heat up through the course of the week. It's significantly reduced my food costs (since it is way cheaper than UberEats or restaurant take-out on a regular basis) while also feeling much healthier. I've tried some of the other popular services that deliver frozen food weekly, and they just don't compare. J&L is just playing in a different league completely. Good selection of options, too, and they're thoughtful about having vegan, vegetarian, and pescatarian options available. And I love the flexibility - I can always order less or not at all if I'm traveling a bunch or going out more. They're also small and personal enough that they're very responsive to customers and easy going about changes and missed deadlines. I've never had any issue ordering a little later than the deadline or asking for changes for delivery days and times. I just started ordering from Jessie and Laurent's prepared food service and so far so good! I've had two deliveries and ordered my third delivery this week. The food is fresh and gets delivered to your doorstep in a cooler bag with ice packs inside. They also text you so you know when the driver is close and when the food is delivered. The delivery also includes a menu of the food you ordered and how to serve or heat up each dish. If you don't plan to eat some of the food right away you can freeze certain dishes and then thaw and heat up when ready. I did that for several meals and they still tasted delicious! I also love the fresh salads (not freezable), the homemade desserts and yummy cold brew coffee they sell. I highly recommend this company if you don't have time to cook dinner every night and/or you want some fresh prepared salads to pack for lunch. Great meals with a nice variety of options to choose from every week. This is such a nice service for those who work long or late hours or don't always have the extra time to cook or pick up food. There is something so comforting about having freshly cooked meals in your fridge that you only need to heat up. I also feel like the order minimum each week is very reasonable, making it possible to order just a couple of meals or a meal and some pastries for a pretty decent value while meeting the order minimum. This makes it so that you don't actually have to commit to a whole week of meals if you don't need or want to order that much food. Sometimes they also have appetizers or hors d'ouveres to choose from too, so I can just order food for two nights and then an appetizer/light meal if that's all I want for the week. Their salads and soups make great lunches too! I've really enjoyed using J&L to take the guesswork out of dinner for some nights of the week so I don't have to always get takeout or cook, and for those who want to have all their meals planned out you have the option of ordering enough for every day of the week. There's no commitment and no requirement to order every single week, but with their rotating menus, variety, and introduction of new dishes, it's pretty hard to resist. Another positive, the delivery process is smooth and you will always get an automated text with the ETA when the driver is nearby. The delivery driver for my area, Juan, even brings treats for my dog. Everything about ordering from J&L is convenient and easy, and they go out of their way to make their customers feel appreciated too, even adding a complimentary jar of jam to one of my orders during the holiday season. Jessie and Laurent has absolutely saved us during Covid - all the convenience of takeout (just pop a meal in the oven and have a homecooked meal in about 25 mins with no stovetop cooking to prep or watch or pots/pans to wash) without the annoying daily discussion of "what-we-will-eat-tonight-and-from-where-and-are-you-ordering-or-am-I-and-omg-its-so-late-now... Yes, its a bit pricey compared to cooking at home, but compared to takeout, its cheaper than ordering out every day and we also often have leftovers that we eat for lunch (thereby also preventing the "what-is-there-to-eat-in-this-house-between-zoom-calls" conversation). The food is tasty, but also not as rich or salty as typical restaurant food, so we can eat it multiple times a week without feeling too indulgent. One thing we often do is supplement the main entrees with our own salad or steamed or roasted veggies for a more balanced meal as the entrees are usually more carb or protein forward (not a bad thing, but just the way it works out). read more

I wish they had a lower minimum, like $50 , It forces u to order bigger and more then u might wish . Had three soups , no idea why , all three sucked . I mean, really sucked . Zucchini and leek , should of been a lovely simple soup , nope . All the desserts have been 5 Star , totally talented baker , except salted Chocolate bundt , They were dry & were discarded . Surprisingly, the few French dishes , I think the chef is French , were also , not enjoyed . Also , u spend like 21 / 22 bucks for one serving or jump to 39 , for two , and it's just an entree , no sides :( So , local , organic , fresh . But ...... And they seem very nice and I wish I loved them more . It's higher quality then " the Munchery " I guess , but also way more costly . Jessie and Laurent have excellent, surprisingly high quality meals for a meal delivery service. It's impressive how they are able to maintain quality when making larger portions since this seems to be the downfall of many of these types of companies. I've tried so many food delivery services and they always fall short, usually in the quality of the meat. Jessie and Laurent's meat quality has been excellent and they also have many vegetarian options and their weekly menu is very diverse. Jessie and Laurent appear to slightly undercook to compensate for you reheating them at home which is really smart. The sauces have been excellent and the portion sizes are surprisingly ample. I eat small meals so I'm probably not typical but I've been getting 4 nice meals out of 1 small portion. If you eat larger meals, I'd say there are 2 very large portions per small serving. Also, excellent customer service. I'm so happy they now deliver to Oakland and will be happy to use their services for ease and convenience. read more

We have been ordering weekly for months and honestly only been disappointed by maybe 1-2 meals total. Secondly, it is so easy. Great New Gourmet Food Delivery Service in Auburn - Jessie and Laurent! Just wanted to pass along my review of my recent order from a new gourmet food delivery service in the area that I recommend called Jessie & Laurent. Their claim to fame is "fresh ingredients made by scratch by our kitchen team daily," and so far so good! They're apparently a big hit in the Bay Area and just expanded into Auburn (as well as the greater Gold Country, and parts of Sacramento and Truckee/Tahoe). This week I couldn't resist their Brunch special, Poached Eggs with Smoked Salmon Spinach Hash. I was a bit hesitant at first, as I just couldn't see how they could preserve the delicacy and freshness of a poached egg through a delivery and reheating service. However, I just followed their reheating directions and it was great! The eggs had the fluffiness I love when they're properly poached and the yolk was perfect - not overcooked even with reheating! I also can't say enough about the quality - often smoked salmon can be a little chewy, especially if you don't carefully remove any fatty portions. I initially actually picked at it trying to see if I needed to cut anything away, but it was perfect and went down like butter! So to me this is more than just another local delivery service - it's like having your own personal chef that is sure to have some dish you love but rarely have, many times over the course of their weekly, ever-shifting menus! While I enjoy some dishes from the local restaurant take-outs in town, after repeated experiences with Jessie and Laurent, I have to say that they're a wonderful way to get out of the "culinary rut" of the normal take-out rotation. We have been trying out J&L for delivery in San Francisco and we are SO pleased. The delivery is always smooth and easy with text updates, and the food comes impeccably put together and is so tasty. Like seriously delicious! I also love that they have a wide range of cuisines so each week is interesting. The portions are moderate - not too small or big, and like a review below we do supplement with an additional veggie dish or salad or carb base at home for some items when using for dinner. Each item is also clearly noted as can freeze or best fresh, so you have the opportunity to stock the freezer if you are planning for baby's arrival like we are. My husband ordered the Mother's Day feast for 4 of us and it was incredible! It was hand delivered on Friday and we just put it in the fridge until Sunday morning. Everything was so delicious and it was a really large amount of food, we ate it throughout the the whole day! I recently moved to the area and don't really like to cook so was searching for a healthy meal service. I found Jessie et Laurent a few weeks ago and started using their service. I have yet to not enjoy one item I have received. The healthy juices, salads, crepes and stuffed chicken breast have all been truly delicious and so easy to pop in the oven or microwave. I have tried two other food services. The first service was tasty but I still had to be the sous chef and cook. The second had no variety and very high in sodium. My husband was not happy with all the recycling associated with both. I have just started this service and I am happy. The food is yummy! There is a variety to chose from to make your personal meal combinations. There are also a small variety of serving sizes. The serving sizes are just about on but time will tell and I don't think it can always be exact. Freezable items & non freezable items. My husband loves that the recycling is very minimal. Since I once cooked for a family I have looked at the process on a work week schedule Monday - Sunday. My only issue is getting use to deliver in the middle of the week. The cost is the same as purchasing prepared items at a Woodland Market or my fav and miss Paradise. Jessie et Laurent offers a super-useful, semi-custom food delivery service. Think of it as a step down from your own personal chef, but a big step up from take out diner food and your own reheated leftovers. In short you can order a week's worth of food each Friday, then get it delivered to your fridge the following Monday or Tuesday. We used their service for 4-6 weeks this summer and generally found them to be punctual, customer-friendly and we thought the food was pretty good. Unfortunately we did also have a bad experience, so we are no longer customers. My 3 year old has several allergies including egg, and the short story is that they changed a recipe -- adding egg -- and failed to notify their office staff. So despite my asking numerous time for no egg product and being assured we had no problem, my son ingested egg and got very sick. To their credit, Jessie et Laurent handled the aftermath as well as they could have... with the CEO calling to apologize profusely and immediately refunding my week's bill. So I'm not mad at them and hold no grudges, but I also don't use their service at this point. I've been pondering how to write this review for months now and figured I would just tell it straight. Bottom line is that they offer a pretty great (albeit expensive) service and if we did not have serious allergy issues, I'd be a customer today. read more

Summary: Cafeteria quality food, with white tablecloth prices. Better quality food can easily be found at these prices. Pros: They deliver. Cons: Quality of the food doesn't match the price tag. Entrees are bare, i.e. typically not a balanced meal. Quantity (i.e. number of stated servings) does not consider adult male consumption. We tried Jessie et Laurent and were required to order a minimum of $70 for delivery. 1 appetizer ($10) and 3 entrees ($20 each) later, I'm thinking - we were duped! Frittata appetizer - (4/5) okay size, flavor and ingredients. But, for $10, Lite Bite easily trumps. Steak entree - (1/5) low quality fatty meat, tough, not much flavor. More like Safeway roast beef than 'steak'. We threw out 3/4 of it. Chicken crepe - (1/5) this should be pronounced 'chicken crap'. Flavorless chicken swimming in some kind of mayonnaise sauce in a soggy crepe wrap. 'Disgusting' is not a word I use for food normally, but that's what I spontaneously said after my first mouthful. Our kids couldn't get past their first bites either. Lamb tagine (stew) - (4/5) good flavor, tender meat, and a good assortment of vegetables. This dish was fine. If it were $12-14 it would be properly priced. Bottom line - these are not $20 entrees by any stretch. They do not meet the $20 hurdle for either quality or quantity. At these prices, if JeL bumped up the volume on these dishes by 50% they could compete with Buca di Beppo for large volume, mediocre food. But in their current state, these entrees are easily outclassed by restaurants in our neighborhood offering complete meals for $20 rather than just a naked entree. Good, but not exceptional food. For these prices it should be exceptional. We received a gift certificate for Jessie et Laurent, which was a wonderful gift. The staff at Jessie et Laurent were very professional and responsive. The whole process was easy. I have to give them kudos for professionalism and customer service. Unfortunately, they missed the pricepoint by a mile. For $150 we received three large entrees and a small bag of cookies. That's about $45 per entree. One of those entrees was a large quiche. It was delicious, light and fluffy. Of the three we ordered, that was clearly the standout entree; but there is no way that was a $45 quiche. The other two entrees were a chicken and a noodle dish. Both of those were good, but definitely not great; neither were dishes I would order again. Again, for $45 each I believe they should be exceptional. Honestly, the main thing I was dreading when I had a baby right from the start was that I was going to eat crap until I had the energy to cook for myself again. I was wrong, and it's in large part of Jessie et Laurent. A friend gave me a gift certificate to the service as a baby gift, and it's been a lifesaver. You go onto the site, pick dishes that you are interested in, and order. They hit each region of the bay area on a certain day of the week, each dish coming with warming instructions for your oven, and they're well labelled, and you heat the food, and go. This is restaurant quality food delivered to your door, at less than restaurant prices. Dishes are marked on if they can or cannot be frozen, so you can buy the dishes you want when they come up, and store them for later. I've ordered 3 weeks of food, and it's great to have something that feels more like home cooking, but doesn't take the effort. I can see this being something I could continue to do for quite some time. Of the dishes we've ordered, I haven't tried one that I didn't like thus far. The medium dishes are easily servings for 3 adults, and the small dishes depending on which ones you get, can be enough for 1, or enough for 4 meals. You do need to order a couple of days before they deliver, and the minimum order is $85, but when we spend about $90, we end up with meals for 2 for about 3-4 days. I'd say it's worth it. Right now, knowing that I'll have nutritious meals at home without resorting to fast food is completely worth it, and I think this it's fantastic.
