You would be absolutely correct...and part of that involved my attending a Catholic high school! and yes...I was on the field hockey team. So, when I went to the Polish Festival to hang with some of my fellow countrymen and nosh down some pierogies, I was encouraged to go look at the church by the friendly Franciscan monks. Not that I needed much prodding to do so...I had brought along my good SLR just for that occasion. As my mom can well attest to, I am drawn to older churches, having dragged her into almost every single one we passed during our trip through Belgium and France. Since it was a little later in the evening, the church was quiet and I was able to spend almost an hour inside taking pictures with little distraction. It was decorated beautifully for the Polish festival and the lighting inside was perfect for dramatic shooting....the stained glass must be something to behold in the early morning hours and I hope to get out there again prior to sunrise. I was also fortunate enough to catch some nice stories of the church by the gentleman doing small tours and learned some excellent history about when then Cardinal Karol Wojtyla came to visit in 1969. They also hold frequent concerts with full orchestras....check out their website for updates.

Had an 8th grade teacher refer to me and my kids as a "clown car" I didn't feel that joke, or comment was needed on a day when you are first meeting teachers. Lower grade teacher seem to love their jobs and are very informative. When touring the school I suggest you actually cancel the tour and read the handbook. Their grading scale is different from any other school I've worked in, went to, or had my kids in. They make all grades buy PE uniforms, not just the upper classes. Sports are not tied into tuition, that's a separate fee. Field trips are not tied into tuition, also a separate fee. Uniforms for boys are simple, for girls they can not wear skirts for younger grades you have to buy jumpers from school-belles, expect to spend money! Older girls are able to wear skirts, school-belle only. Also not cheap, however they do have a good second hand area where you can obtain used clothes for cheap. Asked for test score was told I had to look them up on my own via Ohio's education websites. Asked for an expense record of how the tuition is spent and was told, they were looking into it. Again, referring you to READ the handbook, everything is in there. You owe service hours (volunteering for the school) regardless if you are on vouchers or not, if your tuition is paid in full or not. Despite if you work full time, go to school full time and are trying to raise kids (Again referring back to compassion and grace). I was impressed with kindergarten and 1st grade. Lovely bunch of staff members there. Only one teacher in 8th grade was interested in knowing parents. They do have a protocol to complain against volunteers and parents, despite what staff might tell you on campus. If you have a complaint with another family it has to be handled through the school.

Our youngest attended there and we were forced to withdraw her because of the favortism played. She was a 4.1 gpa never in trouble and things changed when she went to her counselor due to a bad day and it ended where the counselor said she took pills. Non of which she did and then she had to get evaluated to go back, we abided by that and when we presented the hospital proof that she took nothing, was in sound mind, the prinicipal made up a contract which no one would admit to approving. My daughter refused to sign as they wanted control of her in and out of school. After summer and my daughter wanted to go back and attend senior year...so she signed. A month later an incident happened between her and her BF at 10pm! nowhere near the school...no charges, nothing and the school wanted to expel my daughter but permit the boy to still attend the school, and he is the one who told my daughter to kill herself. In the meantime, we get from her friends that they could no longer speak to her because of being told to by the school, all blocked her out of fear of repercussion. We ended up withdrawing her... The emotional abuse they put our daughter through has caused PTSD. It has shaken my faith, but God has been by our side to see her through and with the help of a caring school she graduated early and is working on her career choice. Things like this does exist and it happened to so many...some schools are just better at hiding their dark secrets.

This review is for St. Charles Borromeo School, not the church. I mean, who reviews churches?…read more I grew up across the street from St. Charles and I've watched the school grow and change. In fact, the selling of our house TO St. Charles actually helped them grow, in a way. They used the space where I lived for 24 years to build a much needed parking lot. While I miss seeing my old house, I get to park where my house once stood and walk through what was once my back yard. The house on Alber behind where mine used to be on Wilber still stands as does the oak tree that was planted when I was a young kid. I can see just how much that oak tree has grown and it reminds me of how much life changes, for better or worse. I did not attend St. Charles. Instead, I went to Renwood. But I'm happy that I am able to send my kids to St. Charles because I believe it is the or one of the best elementary schools in Parma. The principal, teachers, and other staff are excellent. If only the catholic high schools had similar tuition rates! The annual St. Charles Carnival has been part of my life as long as I can remember. I live just three streets away now and I visit St. Charles more than ever due to my children's involvement with the school. The CYO sports teams and coaches are excellent. I didn't realize I could have played for St. Charles CYO when I was a kid even though I didn't go to St. Charles. Instead, I waited for 7th grade, which is when Parma City Schools allow students to participate in sports. St. Charles starts track in first grade and many other sports in third grade. If only we'd known, I definitely would have played for the school directly across the street.
