This place gets worse and worse. Saturday around 6:00pm the electric door isn't working have to push against it. Been times that every cart is stuffed into the entrance and no path to walk in or out also jamming the door shut as the cart person is running around with a friend in the parking lot. One register open and the credit card machine doesn't work. At the one register the checkout person is more interested in his text messages than ringing us up. Twenty years I've been a customer there, the end of that. Shut this place down. read more

They only have one line open. And then, the person checking your order out has their name tag turned around so you can't call the manager, if there is one, to complain. The deli has rude people. I no longer shop at Jewel/Osco unless it's an emergency. Today, Aug 8, 2025, once again, I purchased products that were long expired. I bought a Wasp Spray dated 2021. Four (4) yrs old! I found out when I complained to the manufacturer. No wonder the can was 1/2 full, totally ineffective (and on-sale!). I ran against this same "expiration" problem with other products from Jewel. Prices at Jewel are now either higher or the same as Whole Foods. If you shop at Jewel, be extremely mindful of expiration dates, SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS & return bad products. read more

Brenna D? Brenda D? I'm not sure on her name because she covered up her name tag when I asked her for her name was the rudest and most unpleasant person here. She ignored a handicapped person who was waiting for help at the self checkout. She ignored me when I went to the customer service counter and asked her to help the person at the self checkout. She was playing on her phone and I had to ask her several times to please help this person who was waiting for 10minutes. Brenna was disrespectful to me and to this other person along with all the customers at the self checkout. Brenna started to get loud telling the customers how someone needs to be fired and she doesn't know why a manager hasn't fired them yet. As someone who has worked in customer service their whole life, I would have NEVER treated anyone like that. I am unsure if she was mentally unwell after her coworker did not show up. I would've had a little more compassion if she was busy but she was playing on her phone. Not to mention the person who was waiting for assistance was the only one with their help light blinking. Finally, if you're going to be an ahole to people I would have NOT kept my name tag on. The fact that she tried to cover it up so I was not able to see it is pathetic. So Brenna D, Brenda D, Breana D, do better and I'd at least have my hair washed or attempt to make it look presentable with the pink. They are very short staffed and when I asked the deli manager about sale items located in the deli she was very dismissive and didn't care about me shopping here. Ugh... I purchased guacamole yesterday and once I got home i accidentally turned the container upside down The guacamole was expired and I had to go back and have it replaced which was so inconvenient. They should replace it for free and give me my money back. MADE FRESH sticker is a joke. Marianos guacamole is waaaaay better. read more

I've never wanted to punch someone in my life, until I met the worst employee ever at this Jewel Osco. While waiting for a self checkout, one opened up and my girl and I approached. There was a bag left, so I turn around to inform the man, which turned out to be the employee; when he stomped over to me and barked "Can you just be patient for a minute?!" Now, I don't like to make anyone's day worse ever. So we stepped back for the next register, I was already fuming. Once a new one opened, we began checking out... the prices on my items were wrong. We waited about 2 minutes for help, when the same guy came back. I asked politely if he could lend a hand. "That's not my job, I work in produce. You should just learn to be patient." The deli associate, Ariel is phenomenal! She always goes above and beyond, and never without a bright smile. She is constantly offering help to customers. I am a long time Jewel shopper and while I love some of the specialty grocery stores in the area, I always go back to Jewel as they usually have everything.... This Jewel location is the exception and has to the the worst I've been to. Items are constantly mis-marked and ring up incorrectly. I usually go to the Clarendon Hills location, but was on Cass so stopped here for a few items. Paid 2x the price for Broccoli because they had it marked as Guacamole. Got chastised by the woman by the self-check our area yet again. Think she may be the manager. This is the same lady who a few months back basically acted like I was trying to steal pork loins when I inquired why they had 15 signs in the back saying buy one, get one, but they rang up regular price. Save yourself the hassle, go someplace else. read more

Just curious because today I asked a guy who was working at the meat department if they were going to put out more cube steaks since there was only one package. His response was "well, I wasn't planning on it". Great customer service. Eventually, 2o minutes later, a very nice woman went in the back and brought out what I needed. Expired dairy, meats and shelf items offered for sale are a pretty routine find at this location. Terribly managed store. During the pandemic, the required by law mask policy wasn't even enforced for the stores own employees with exposed noses and mouths throughout the store. Customers usually keep their masks on to protect themselves snd others, but recently while shopping there were several customers without a mask in sight. This despite a sign in the door stating masks required. I called corporate customer service and they initially weren't even aware that masks were required until they "looked it up". This store doesn't care about its customers, as evidenced by spoiled expired food and a refusal to follow medical mandates. There are other grocery stores in the area where your strawberries won't have mold on them and your bacon didn't expire two weeks ago. read more

This has been "my Jewel" since 1985. I write my grocery list based on THEIR store layout. I loved this store for decades. Of recent, it has really gone downhill. Compared to the Jewel at 63rd & Main (10 min drive), it has just gotten sad. Empty places on the shelves, in the freezers, clueless employees. Today I saw no less than 6 EMPLOYEES wearing their state mandated masks wrong. Come on folks. It's not rocket science. You put it over your mouth AND nose. NOT hanging under your chin, or only over your mouth. Or on top of your head. Or on your ass! I corraled the store manager & complained. The deli staff is so rude when asked simple questions. Customer service goes a long way and they definitely lack in that department. There is a young African American lady in the self checkout who was obviously "trained" to keep her 'eye" on the Black customers. She has done it several times i have been in the store and today my son told me she had done him the same way. It's insulting, rude and violates my basic human rights. She stands there looking at the Black customers like she is security. In the mean time other customers are able to scan their items without her "hawking" them. This store was my go-to for years. The established employees were great. I even remember one of the cart guys say "have a nice day" each & every time you saw him. However, the last few years the store has dramatically changed. The store is dirty, lights have been burned out in the coolers/frozen foods for at least a year & the shelves are not stocked. One man in dairy was very rude when asked about an item. So, I asked the manager where it was & he pointed me in the right direction. The employee looked very nervous when I returned with the manager. I should have reported him but did not, as he is always like this. The younger cashiers & baggers have ongoing personal conversations, which is fine, but it is regarding other customers, employees & inappropriate language. So busy talking, they disregard the requests you have about bagging, etc. I don't know what the heck is going on but with 4 other/new major grocery stores in the area, they need to pick it up a notch if they intend to stay in business. So when is someone going to finally do something about this Jewel? Does the Store Manager " have something on somebody" that he/she isn't fired by now? Stopped by to pick up a few items last Monday. As usual they were out of about 1/2 the items I needed. Now comes the fun. Went to check out. The checker was an older grey haired man in his 50's or 60's. when I got to the front of the line I naturally said "hello" as any normal human would do. He totally ignored me. When he finished checking my items he snapped the amount. I mean he did not say something like "that will be $xx.xx. No, he just snapped the Dollar amount. I gave him MY MONEY which he took , then pushed the system button for my change which I took from the dispenser. At this point this guy still has said nothing to me but the dollar amount of my purchase. I looked at him and said, very nicely, "you're welcome". He just glared at me, quite literally, and went on to the next customer. Is this how Jewel does business now? This store is dirty, aisles are cluttered, deli and bakery items frequently out of stock. What is happening at this location which, unfortunately, the closest to my home? I worked for Jewel many years ago before entering the Military and it was a great company. There are other grocery chains coming into our market which are clean, well stocked, and treat customers with a modicum of respect, Marianos for one. This place is the worst! I've been shopping here, unfortunately, for over 30 years and I think I can remember one time, yes ONCE, that I was not overcharged on some item in my cart. The employees don't really care, and they will refund your money, but you shouldn't have to plan on a trip to the service counter every time you shop! They constantly put sale signs in front of the wrong item so they can trick you into buying something you think is on sale, but is not. I happened to go to the Jewel Osco Pharmacy at 7329 S Cass Avenue today(12.20.21 12:00) to pick up my medication. I approached the Drop off counter and immediately was met with rude response form elderly lady customer assistant there. She didn't even listen to what I said and asked me to go to the next counter. I waited a line there and was advised that I need to go back to Drop off counter to submit my prescription. To my surprise the very same elderly lady met me with the furious speech that this is my fault, and began talk to me like I am a small child which needs to be punished for doing something wrong. That is the most disgusting experience I had so far. I came to the pharmacy to pick up medication, being in pain. Could she have more understanding and be more polite? I have no words how much it is frustrating. People like her shouldn't work in customer service. read more

I felt like I was in a different world when I was shopping there tonight. They are doing a remodel which is understandable but there is no music, dead silance and tons of empty shelves. No maps or any guidance on where product like bread or cereal are located. For a local community store, I am not going back. I live right down the street and have been going there for 15 years. I have never felt more uncomfortable in my life. Plus the staff was very limited. Only 1 cashier open and I was bagging my own groceries. If I wanted to bag my own groceries I would have gone to Aldi which is where I am going to start going from now on. Marianos is the best for customer service and cleanliness.
