Was driving around the Chicagoland suburbs and got to Jewel-Osco since Walgreeens was closed on Thanksgiving day. Found what I was looking for in the pharmacy which was their house brand's version of Dramamine but at a more reasonable price. For friends in SoCal, Jewel-Osco resembles an Albertsons as the Albertsons company is their owner. Prices in general are comparable to SoCal Albertsons. The store appeared clean although it was busy with people probably doing their last minute Thanksgiving purchases or not. By the entrance there was merch for the Chicago sports teams. The cashier at checkout was kind and polite. I punched in my phone number at the point of sale terminal and I actually earned points according to my receipt. SHOPPER BE VERY AWARE ... SHOP AT YOUR OWN RISK! Especially if you use the "clipped coupons" and U deals. Watch you items be scanned at the register. I shopped here yesterday (6/29/24) and recognized the watermelon I was buying scanned at the cashier for $7.99 instead of the $2.99 sale price. I asked the cashier why the sale price did not come up and she said it would when she finished the order. At payment, nothing changed. This prompted me to check my receipt before leaving the store. To my shock, sale prices did not scan for my strawberries, watermelon, cucumbers, raspberries, etc. I went to the customer service counter and asked why this happened. She said "errors happen" and reviewed my receipt. When we were done with the review, I was refunded $25. Two people in front of me and several people behind me were at customer service addressing the same problem. I am grateful I watch during check out and double checked my receipt. Can you imagine the profits this company makes off of "errors" when the correct prices are not properly scanned into the computers. This "error" is a poor excuse for a company. This is criminal. Only came here because it was on the way back home. Just a FYI, the ratings for this location is significantly higher on Google than the same location on Yelp. The store was clean, well stocked, and employees were nice. I like the produce section better at this location vs the ones in Downers Grove and Naper blvd. It definitely looked bigger then two other locations. I took off a star because they didn't carry the Asian mushrooms that you can get for 99 cents like at the location on Naper blvd. read more

Most of the people at the jewel are pretty friendly. I think my suggestion is they need to address the problems at the deli counter Last night. I went in for the fried chicken special. There were six of us standing waiting, and there were five people behind the counter, not taking care of customers. John, the pharmacy technician was so outstanding when he was dealing with us. He was extremely personable and showed no irritation when he saw we didn't have an appointment. Jewel Osco has everything you could possibly want HOWEVER it is expensive AF. You can go to Walmart to get your toilet paper/soap etc and Shop N' Save for produce and you'll save BIG $$$! Never have I went to Jewel for my weekly reload and have it be less than $200. This is including clipping the coupons on their app (which aren't real deals by any means)! I've been coming here for over a decade and my experiences have always been good. I think it's kept pretty clean and parking isn't an issue. Recently, they just renovated so everything looks like it's been upgraded and more sharp. There's a TCF bank inside which has been around for years, finally, the lines will no longer go out and block aisle traffic. When you walk in, grocery is on your right, CVS/pharmcy will be on your left. In general, I find Jewel prices are a little higher than Walmart and Target, but if its convenient, then you might as well just save some gas money and buy it here. Just look for the sales and yellow tags items. Of course, you should get the Jewel preferred card, no question if you shop here. If you're an out-of-towner, or if you're just too stubborn to get a card, then you will pay about double. Just get the card :) read more

Somehow my review for the pharmacy has been relocated to my review of Jewel. This review is an update of my Jewel review. I think it is great that Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 9 am will be for senior shoppers. Now, they cannot prevent others from coming into the store, but I would hope that people, if they decide to shop at that time, would be a little more courteous. I was very disappointed to find most shelves and the frozen food area just about bare. I know people have been hoarding the paper products, so that bare aisle was expected, but what about the rest of the store? I could not even buy a bottle of lemonade ~ BARE ~ who is hoarding lemonade and juices? Seriously, just because you know you cannot keep paper products stocked doesn't mean shoppers will not want other products. I asked when there might be restocking and I was told "hard to tell." People, people even with a quarantine you would be able to go grocery shopping. However, I, for one, would expect food products at the grocery store. read more

Unfortunately, this Jewel is turning into a cesspool. You walk through the entrance through a cloud of trash, cig butts, wrappers, plastic bags like you are entering a garbage dump. Let me just start out by saying that there are so many grocery stores in the Chicagoland area. A lot of them are great some of them are good and others are just bad. Jewel Osco falls somewhere in between this spectrum. The best part about them is that they have so many different locations and most of the stores look exactly the same. This one has a very well organized grocery part as well as the household items products. They have dozens of options on each product so you have a good choice of which brand to go with. They also have decent sales that come on pretty often. However this is not a store will you get all of your groceries if you want to save some money. What are the prices here are higher than some other stores around the area. Like I said there are many pros in many cons to Jewel Osco. read more

This place is absolutely horrid. Unfortunately my husband had to shop here this past weekend because Meijer on Boughton Road is doing a major rehab and does not carry a lot of the items we needed so he was stuck having to go to this Jewel this week. BIG MISTAKE !!!! Myhusband picked up a half a dozen Kaiser rolls in the bakery section and since he is the one that went shopping and didn't pay attention even though he thought that $130 for items with no meat purchased whatsoever was a bit high he didn't pay attention or look at the bill till he got home. When We looked at the bill I noticed $52 on the receipt for Kaiser rolls in the amount tendered in as quantity was 66 Kaiser rolls for a total of $52 and something cents. (And this wasn't a red Flag to the moron cashier). So upon returning to the Jewel to get his money back the person at the service desk just said to my husband "you're the guy with the 66 Kaiser rolls" as if to insinuate it was funny and then gave him his money back with no apology whatsoever for the mistake or for the inconvenience of him having to go back and have a wrong made right. Even a simple nice gesture of refunding him the entire "66" Kaiser rolls and giving us the half a dozen on the house for the inconvenience so instead of crediting him $52 they credited him $46 which OK I don't expect freebies and I get that but at least if you're not going to comp something for a mistake then at least be remorseful and apologize For the inconvenience of having the person have to make a second trip back. And other issues we've had in the past is like others have stated expired dates on items that we have purchased From this Jewel in the past moldy items yes I know you're going to get that from time to time when you order bulk items like strawberries in a container blueberries in a container oranges in a bag but actual bottles of stuff and packages of stuff with expired dates yeah not a good thing. So With all the other choices and options out there to shop we will not be coming back to this location and just want to buyer beware you people make sure you check your receipt before you leave and check the expiration dates on everything just to save you a second trip of having to come back to right a wrong. Came here with my son to pick up 2 liter bottles for my dad and I. They had $0.88 sale on single bottles with 12 bottle limit. Figured I could do two separate transactions considering I am purchasing for two households. Cashier told me limit 12. I said I'm completing two transactions. He said I couldn't do that and without even arguing he called his store manager to "handle me". I purchased my 12 and went through other line to purchase my other 12. He blocked me from doing that. I said my son would buy them- two people two transactions. Still refused me the sale. Customer ahead of me offered to buy them for me and the store manager made it his business to question him his relationship to me and AGAIN refusing the sale. The only restriction on the sale states 12 limit. I should be able to file a lawsuit against this Jewel for refusal of sale considering I was purchasing for two households, two separate transactions, let alone a stranger was refused a sale because it was for me. I have been able to do this at multiple other jewels in the area and near my house in Chicago and for Jewel to not have uniform rules is unprofessional! I will be contacting corporate about this incident. Edit: I went to another jewel and they, like every other jewel I've been to, accepted my double transaction. Dear general manager of Jewel-Osco on 75th Street, the bathroom is disgusting! It smells like it has not been cleaned in weeks!!! You can actually notice the smell standing 10 feet away from the door, outside by the main isle. Also, the toilet is tilted off of the wall. Even the local tire shop is cleaner!!! Like others have stated, I still dont know why I keep shopping here. Their prices are high, sales aren't great and majority of the staff is sub-par.... with just a few exceptional employees who go above and beyond. Their new remodel currently taking place is a joke. While I'm sure it's going to look beautiful inside, it's not going to fix the deeper issues of this store. And to top it off, they've recently changed their hours to now close at midnight, effectively taking away the areas closest 24 hour pharmacy in the process. Thanks Jewel! Does anyone remember how Jewel used to be? Remember the fair prices, the courteous help, the full-service grocer that made them famous and, quite honestly, the "jewel" of grocery chains in Chicago? Well, it's great that you remember, because no one there seems to. Prices: ridiculously high. Why would I come here to pay over $3.00 for a gallon of their milk when Meijer or Aldi have it for about $2.00? Their sales don't make any sense. Only a select number of items are on sale every week, but that doesn't help the family that buys certain items (like, again, milk) consistently. The preferred card savings = the regular non-sale price at competitors. Fresh shops: The produce is good, but, again, pricey, and not nearly as large a selection as fresh markets. Be prepared to wait at any other department you visit. The deli, also overpriced, is always a ten minute wait or longer as it's never properly staffed for the volume of people who [surprisingly] visit it. I will say this, though: Jewel's bakery is still outstanding. Who doesn't get excited when they see a Jewel birthday cake? You know damn well it's gonna be good! Center store: Again, high prices, but a major con is that they're always stocking and/or facing the shelves in the middle of the day (or worse, between 4 and 6 when it's packed), and while I realize the shelves need to be full, it's a great inconvenience. Either the aisles have to be wider, or they need to stock the shelves full at the beginning of the day. Checkout: Always an issue. I might as well shop at Aldi, because at this "full service" grocery store, I'll not only be bagging my own groceries, but I'll be checking them out myself, too. The lines are long, whether you go through the self checkouts or not. Good luck trying to get help at the service counter. Customer service in general is hit-or-miss. The management seems nice, the pharmacists are great, the senior employees know what they're doing. But you'll always run into the employees who stopped caring or are too focused on what they're doing to help you. I think it's an indicator of how the company's run. They've been stripping away what used to make Jewel more involved with their customers, like taking down the bulletin board, cutting the staff, discontinuing many seemingly well-shopped items. I feel nothing but sympathy to the dedicated employees who have worked there for years are constantly take the full burden of the job when upper management keeps cutting the staff and raising the prices to line their pockets. It's no wonder there's no help - the people who are working there are burned out from being stretched too thin! read more

Watch their expiration dates. I'm sick of finding the items I want to purchase have passed their BEST BEFORE dates. It seems like no one in the store actually checks. If just found some johnsonville breakfast sausage that expired 2 months ago five others that expired last month. Management apologizes but it never changes. Constantly out of stock on items i want and the staff often cram surplus stock of other items in its place. My family calls this place the "yucky Jewel" and i agree wholeheartedly. A young staff member yelled at me, I was really scared by him, I have to ran away from store, he's really scary, he came up so close to me and shouted on my face, I am threatened, feared to get coronavirus, I ran from him. Watermelon displayed on sale for $1.89, and I was charged for $5.99, I paid for filling 18 gallons water and water ran out, I only got 10 gallons and did not get refund. They have been renovating this place for the past few months. I was excited to see the results. The past two weeks or so, I noticed that the vegetable/fruit section seemed more inviting and organized. There are still some things at works so will see how they will end up. I noticed today that they opened up self checkout kiosks. I think that's a step forward. Hopefully this won't congest the cashier areas for items that can be self-checked out. BUT one change I was very very happy to see was a section of fresh squeezed juice!!! Moving to the suburb, I didn't realize that initially this place didn't sell it. I have tried other grocery stores' versions but I do love Jewel's for one reason or another. So just imagine my dismay when I found out they didn't sell it before. As of today though, they have it on their shelves! I just literally tried it to check out the taste and it's the same fresh juice I fell in love with at the Jewel city locations. Try them!! I have not seen issues with expired food as others have mentioned, but will now make sure to check. All in all the place is fine, not my normal go to for groceries, but I'm here frequently as it is very close to me. I did have the unpleasant situation of gentlemen in deli area greet me with a, "whatcha want" followed by blank stare. I found that interesting. Also have noticed quite the long lines for check out. There customer service is horrible. I went there this morning Waze said it was open 24 hours but it didn't open until 6. I got there at about 5:57am. I see workers waiting outside and I was like ok cool I guess I'll wait for 3 minutes with them. At 5:59 the customer service lady let them in and closes the door on me. I'm standing there like you have to open it anyway because you have more workers coming and you open in literally a minute. The workers were confused and she did not even acknowledge that I was standing there. So instead of waiting for when she felt like opening the store I left. But In the future a simple "we aren't ready for customers at the moment" would suffice. But ignoring your customers and workers over a minute is rude. read more

I had one cashier drop my change on the counter instead of giving it to me in my hand. When I brought it to her attention, she said "Oh", picked it up and dropped it again. I pretty much stopped coming here after I had my son. I did stop in this location a lot when I was pregnant. While I was pregnant, I would ask help out to my car, with the cases of coke and water. It was hard enough to get it into the cart when I was 35 weeks pregnant.. and then my husband would bring in the coke and water after he got home from work. My experience when I asked for help out to my car... "Well we have the motorized carts that you can use." or "Can't you do it yourself?" I am not pregnant as my son is now almost 6 months old. I stop in this location this early evening to get some groceries. Note* I have not been in this store for a couple of months, I have been going else where. But since this location is close to my house, I needed to be quick! Haha!!* (That was a joke, to be quick... LOL) I always check my groceries dates before putting it in my cart. I have noticed that they don't rotate their shelves very well. I finally came to check out. There was a cashier. She had a look like she REALLY didn't want to be there. She wasn't very pleasant either. I loaded my groceries, went to the end and had to bag my groceries. Seriously? Whatever.. that wasn't my concern. My concern is that she didn't even greet me. I asked cashier *Heather* if she was having a bad day? She just gave me a mean look and told me YES! I was waiting for her to tell me the total, and she just stared at me while I was trying to find the total of the screen. Tell after I paid for my groceries, I told *Heather* "Someone else has it worse than you" I said it with kindness, due to the fact that she wasn't very pleasant with me. She gave me my receipt and that was it. Nothing out of her... except for when I was leaving and I heard her ask the customer behind me, "How are you?" Must of been something wrong with me? No! Not a chance! LOL!!! I get home and I decided to call the store. I asked to speak to a MOD (manager on duty) and quickly was hung up on. I called again and then lady on the phone *Penny* said that I hung up on her and it was my phone problem. She told me she was saying "Hello, Hello?" and no one was there. Whatever. She apologized. I asked again to speak to the manager. She apparently put me on hold. A different woman picked up and asked me how she could help me? I told her that I was looking for a manager to talk about my visit. She said this is the manager. I told her, well if this was the manager, then the manager would say "Hi, This is _______, How may I help you?" Apparently, everyone has a stick up their butt in this store. I told this so called manager my experience in this store today, and she told me that *Heather is shy* that really shouldn't be an excuse. I am shy myself, but if I am working retail/customer service, I am trained to talked to my customers with a smile and a happy attitude. Should be grateful that she has a job. Apparently customer service isn't a big key to working in this environment. I don't think I will be back at this store for a while, unless they train their employees to respect their customers.
