Terrible service almost everytime. I try not to come here but I live so close. They never bag your groceries. I'm standing in line at the seafood counter for 20min as the second person in line. While waiting I'm dodging the guy with a pallet jack. It's Sunday at 6pm and they are moving pallets past me and I'm have to walk out of the way multiple time while I'm on crutches. No consideration whatsoever. There's dirty food carts all over the place. This store is a mess. Been coming here on and off for 10 years and it's never changed, just a terrible place. So. I came here to get some balloons for my nephew's graduation. When I arrived there was someone working there. The woman working there saw me, didn't speak, and then left while I was shopping the area. After waiting 5 or 6 minutes a police officer then showed up to shop for a few seconds while eyeing me. I went and asked them to send someone over and 10 minutes later a guy named Jason with an obvious attitude showed up. "Where's the f'ing scissors, you want all these blown up. What color string, how long" (not exaggerating) all said with vehemence and disdain before filling the balloon till it popped and releasing them into the ceiling. This circus went on for (I wrote this while waiting to get an accurate time) 40 minutes. I mean, I get that it's Indiana and I'm black but damn. With all that's going on at least pretend. Hope I can get out of here safely. Won't be back. read more

This review is solely for the bakery department. In the midst of a global pandemic (Covid-19), I witnessed one of the staff in the bakery dept. wipe her bare hands across a spoon to dislodge the remnants of the strawberry filling onto two cakes. When asked why she wasn't wearing any gloves, with an attitude, she shrugged her shoulders and walked away. I had to speak to the manager about the incident; hopefully she was reprimanded but I wonder how many other cakes or baked goods she'd prepared with her dirty non-gloves hands! read more

This is someones job these people have worked day on day off during this nasty pandemic during every cold and flu season .. I want to say thank you. So here for sale on t bones. 11am only two steaks in case. We asked person working in butcher area are more steaks coming out. Answer yes. I only have one person cutting meat. We waited 20min they brought out several steaks. He ended up romping steaks into the case and tearing the wrapping on May of them. Now is it my problem they do t have enough staff. Wld not have issue but this occurred everyone they have a meat sale. Terrible pharmacy. They are rude slow and consistently mess up prescriptions. My Wife was using them and I intended to but she was having so many issue we transfered all her prescriptions to Walgreens in Dyer. They are much more friendly, accurate and easy to work with. Like this Jewel... for the most part. The store is always clean, employees helpful and friendly. Can't even begin to say how much I love the Deli and Bakery counters here. As far as produce goes, it's fresh and ripe, though of course there's the occasional mushy fruit here and there. Upon check out, 90% of the time if you forget your card or don't have a Jewel Card, they'll run one for you, so it's savings no matter what. There's a First Midwest Bank and one of those money places here (Western Union I think) as well as a Red Box as you walk out. Convenience, I like that isht. The only thing that I'm not fond of is how some of the stuff isn't where it's 'supposed' to be... i.e. why have 2 (3 if you count the deli) sections of cheeses one in the front that carries the 'specialty' cheeses like Feta, Goat and Muenster; then another in the back that carries your standard craft singles, grated cheddar and mozzarella? SMH... makes no sense, but what evs... I know where my cheese is. read more

Jewel is my go to store the foods are fresh and we go to jewel for corn on the cob it is delicious and fresh. Sold packaged with four ears of corn in each pack, we pay a little extra but the extra is excellent and well worth the better selection.. We also appreciate that Jewels bakery is open on Sundays to order birthday cakes decorated. with a big family we have a lot of birthdays to celebrate. I had worked years at the hospital on the midnight shift , Jerel is the only store open after I was off work. Thus doing my grocery shopping at Jewel. We also buy from the flower shop for many nice gifts .A nice service is the carry out person if asked will wrap your flowers in florist paper. Making the flowers all ready wrapped for gift giving.. This is the WORST grocery store I've ever encountered. If they weren't so close to my house I would NEVER go here. I make a point to go to Strack's or Meijer instead, even though they're much further away. Here are the problems with this Jewel: 1) EXPIRED FOOD. Yes, expired food. If you want to play a fun game, go look at the expiration dates on in the dairy and cheese areas. The Cheese area is near produce (you'll know you're in the produce area by the moldy fruits, veggies and berries). Look at those deli salads and cheeses. Look at the dates. I don't know who is in charge of removing the expired items but every single time I go to this specific Jewel in Dyer, I find at least 5 expired items. The milk/dairy section is in the back. The dates are clearly printed on all of those cheeses and those dairy products. EXPIRED. 2) LACK OF FOOD. The ONLY reason I go to this jewel is for a very quick item or two, as I mentioned before. However, that's a gamble because most of the time, they're sold out of whatever you want, or they've decided not to carry it anymore. Once I ran there for green onions. "We're out of green onions." That's not an exotic food... really? Another time I went there for queso fresco cheese. I was taken to the empty shelf where it should be and I was told they didn't know when they'd get it back in. I looked for vanilla activia yogurt one time. Gone. None. Empty shelves. Another time I went to get frozen pretzels. Nope. Empty shelf. Look around the store. Empty shelves everywhere. Who is in charge of ordering items? Where did your macarons go? They were in the freezer and you guys said you just decided to no longer carry them. Odd, because they were always sold out... your shelf was ALWAYS empty. 3) LACK OF EMPLOYEES/QUALITY EMPLOYEES. I cannot tell you how often there are only two checkout lanes open. There are carts all over the parking lot and none available when you walk in. No one at the customer service desk. No one within miles of the liquor department. Do you guys have anyone working here? No wonder your store is filled with expired goods. You have no one working!!!!!!!!!!! Multiple times I've walked in to find NO carts. Now, if I do go here, I'll grab a cart for the parking lot... some times a few... and push them into the store. Cool that I'm doing the work of their employees. 4) TERRIBLE SIGNAGE. They just "reorganized" or whatever they want to call it. Maybe that's a good thing because the iced tea was here, sports drinks over, there, bottle water way over there and pop in these three aisles here. However, they didn't UPDATE THE SIGNS to show you where things are. Also, they're hung in a way where you can hardly see them. PLEASE put the items on the signs at the beginning and the end of the aisle so people can see? The clogs caused by everyone stopping at every dang aisle to peer down and try to read the incorrect sign at the end is obnoxious. I don't need to see Ketchup/Mustard" on one side and waaaaaay down it says "Salad Dressing/Pickles" at the end. Put "Ketchup/Mustard/Salad Dressing/Pickles" on both sides and avoid that horrible clog. Then again, we'll all be standing in line for 45 minutes while your two checkout lanes are open so I'm sure any shot of good customer service will go out the window by the time we leave anyway. 5) DIRTY. It's easy. Clean your store. It looks so dirty and so trashy. We know it's filled with expired items and empty shelves but maybe could you pick up the vegetable leaves on the floor and cracked portions of nuts? I think the worst thing is how little their management cares about their trashy store. Every time I find expired items (which, is literally every visit to this store), I point them out to employees. Does this change? No. Have I talked to managers. Yes. Do they fix the problem? No. If you need a quick package of ruffles, maybe stop here. Then again, you might find an empty ruffles area. If you have a real shopping list of items you need to buy, go to Strack's in Schererville or St. John, go to Waltz in Dyer (even though it's more expensive) or go to Meijer. This is the WORST grocery store in the area. Note: I've shopped at other Jewel/Osco's for years and this is NOT typical. The Dyer branch is just simply awful. read more

So I usually shop at Walmart or meijer's I use their self check out which is very easy. Now I decided to shop at your store for the simple fact your parking lot is empty. I guess I see why your lady that handles the self check out is extremely rude first of all your equipment is awful tells us to bag an item then tell me to return item to bag again. So the woman come to help me well u have to move your item I need to make room in my cart as if I did something wrong your machine here is confusing I said your set up is awful well why do you think that. Now I see why they have u working the self checkout because your customer service sucks but you probably been working for jewel for 40 years and they have to keep you. I ended up buying a little tea rose plant, but she took it behind the counter and added glitter and a few other personal touches for no additional cost! Jewel is a store I go to on a whim but I don't know why. Many items are over priced compared to other stores so why shop here right? Their produce is pretty, hands down they have the nicest produce for a full on grocery store. Hit up that bakery!! The bread and other items are really wonderful. They gave these strawberry torte type cakes that are awesome!! We used these for my bridal shower and everyone raved how amazing they were. read more

I tried to do a pick up order today. It was the worst experience of my life. I put the order in at 1 pm on Sunday for a 5 pm Monday pickup. This gave them 30 hours to process the order. I received a text atv330 saying they were starting on it. That's when it went to crap. Not only was the order not ready at 5 pm, when I walked in the 'kids' in the packing area were to busy on their phones and screwing off to fill my order or even acknowledge that I was standing there. Immediately, I called and canceled. Thank goodness because when the order was ready (after 530 pm), the same kids substituted more than 40% of the order and didn't fill 30% of it. Literally, they tried to tell me there was no chocolate milk, Italian sausage, whipping cream, or Texas toast left in the store. I figure they were just too lazy to go find it. It is so sad how absolutely terrible customer service is and how much these 'associates ' didn't give a crap about the customer. Furthermore, it is clear that management has no idea what their people are doing. I will never try a pickup order again from Jewel. read more

I shop here only because I get my pet food at the Pet Supplies Plus across the street......it's based on convenience n pure laziness. Today the store seemed to be under another renovation.....everything is a mess, things are in different spots & some shelves are completely empty, so it took me even longer than normal to shop. I get to the register....one lady checking out....& I unload my cart. Annnnnnnnnnnnnd the coupon nightmare starts. The lady in front of me had about 10 coupons that I'm sure add up to $1.50 in savings & it is COMPLETELY confusing the register operator. 10 minutes. I waited while she stared at coupons for 10 minutes. She never acknowledged me, never apologized for the wait, never called in someone who might actually know WTF they were doing & when I finally asked if I should just reload my cart & go to another register, she just laughed & said "Yeah, maybe...ha...ha...". So I did the next best thing.....left my groceries on the conveyor belt, my cart in the checkout lane & I walked out & went to Meijer. read more

I have never been a fan of Jewel they were more expensive than the other stores and the meat wasn't that great with the exception of their Italian Sausage. But I will go if they have a good sale. They had steaks on sale and I bought several because they looked good. I made one for dinner and it was so tough I threw it away. Tried another same thing. My sister told me to take them back, so I did. And I want to tell you it sure changed my mind about Jewel !! The customer service was EXCELLENT ! She couldn't have been nicer kept apologizing and reimbursed my money ALL OF IT !! So I thought I would try their Prime Rib for New Years, what did I have to lose if it was bad take it back. Well it was one of the best prime rib I have ever had ! So since then every New year my prime rib comes from Jewel haven't had a bad one yet . I have found the employee's are very helpful, they have a great selection of items and their prices now are no worse than the competition some items even cheaper.
