Although I have never been to this store, my brother shopped here. He was in this store on Christmas Eve, when he had a heart attack. My sisters and I pieced together some of the events of that day and we are very thankful to the store director and the employees in particular that performed CPR in an effort to save my brother. We are also thankful to the police officers that relieved them until the EMS arrived. And we are thankful to any other employees and customers that may have tried to help him or said prayers for him and our family. My sister put together what happened from the police report and from a Facebook connection. Small world that it is, one of my cousin's co-workers was a customer in the store at that time. She told my cousin about what happened in the store on Christmas Eve and then my cousin realized she was talking about my brother. 2nd time in a row I had to cancel my online pickup order. Because they can't do there job and have it ready, by the picked time. They need to reconfigure how many orders they take at one time for a pickup time period. There's a reason why I pick a specific time, Also I do pickup because I cannot walk through the whole store. So your inconvenience to me makes me go to a different store, it may not break you or the store but if keeps happening to others as well, they also might start going to a different store. The service was not so good. There was a lady looking over the persons shoulder as she was taking my cake order. I could see if it was her first time; but it's not rocket science. I could feel the tension. On top of that, unlike other locations they don't give you a carbon copy of your order and you don't pre-purchase your cake. The manager or supervisor at this location, some white older lady with missing teeth is absolutely awful. I do not understand why she's allowed to oversee a store. I have had several issues with her ranging from accidentally buying expired food to wrong sale signs on the shelf. Every time there has been an issue and I've had to deal with her she raises her voice, says it's not her fault. If you are a manager of a place I think it's YOUR JOB to check if items are expired or if the wrong sale tags are put on items. She never helps resolve anything and just argues and yells. I have seen her do this to multiple people not just myself. She really should get fired. Absolutely terrible management, I will not be coming back to this store, I'd rather drive a bit further than ever have to deal with her again or buy expired food. read more

The Pokemon vending machine is a great idea to get the product out fairly to the public. Unfortunately, the vending machines at jewel Osco grocery stores are always sold out. I noticed on several occasions every time I go to the store, the vending machine is hounded by employees of jewel Osco throughout the day nonstop. I even heard employees speaking about " we've figured out the system and how it drops". That's not fair to the public, that's abuse. It has created an unfair and hostile environment. After notifying the manager of having very expired products on their shelves I was assured that they would immediately be removed, Went back 3 days later only to find that everything was still on the shelves as before and nothing was taken away. This should clearly show you the complete lack of concern and safety of Jewel customers. This is what is called gross negligence of the management of Jewel knowing they have expired groceries and choose to leave them there. I then walked up to customer service and spoke to the manager on duty and he went with another employee and removed all the expired products from the shelf, He then informed me that some of the products where expired since July of last year that's nine months ago ! I would've given this 1 star but this is the first time it's ever happened to me. I usually don't order for pickup but I was in a bit of a hurry today because it's my husbands birthday I wanted to make a nice dinner for him. Well I picked up my groceries and went home to begin cooking the potatoes and for 1 I ordered 4 potatoes, but was only given 3. But most importantly! 2 out of the 3 potatoes are moldy and rotten. Don't worry, pictures are included. I worked for personal shopping at 1 point and I've always made sure each person gets the best of the best. This is horrendous! First let me say that I love the renovations that were done in the past few years. The employees are helpful when I have had a question about where something is located. I sometimes do forget they do have a list in every isle that says what products are in that particular isle. There are some instances where they are out of a product. I would ask a worker and they immediately go into the back and bring out more of the product or let me know they are out of the product. Thanks to all of the employees. read more

ordered 2lbs of Boars Head American cheese, $12.16. this was part of a Driveup & Go order. when I got home I noticed they put the slices of cheese any old way in a gallon plastic bag. I had to stack them up and put in my own bags. The lack of respect for their job and the haphazard way they treat food is incredible. Impossible to shop especially for the disabled. My mom took the Patse bus to shop. She used the store scooter however, she has a limited amount of time to get through her list. Today there was so much garbage in the aisles and end caps that she found it frustrating to manage through. Also, it wouldn't hurt to have an employee assist with grabbing very top shelf items like dog food, ice cream for dogs. Mom has lived in Palos Hills for at least 75years and lives near Jewel. Went to try and get cash back at self check out. Thought hey I'll save some time of not having to go to the chase atm. Boy was I wrong. Diana was working the self check out area. To which she did need to come over because apparently there was a glitch in the system to which, she needed to scan her supervisor/keyhold card because the system said something along the lines of, unable to process transaction. But the cc reader had already prompted me for my pin, cash back amount, as well as proceeded to say approved. But anyways. Diana scanned her card and the receipt did print. I then stepped back and looked at where the cash dispenser would dispense the cash, and I said to Diana who had made it 3 or 4 steps away at this point, and asked, ummm where does the cash get dispensed. She took my receipt and checked that I did infact request cash back, and went into the office behind where the service desk is, I guess Sean was back there. But then 5 minutes go by. A real meeting of the minds happening in that back office. To which Sean comes back out, and says to me, best I can do is take your name and number down and the earliest you can get your cash back is Sunday. Like whatttttttt. Not working for me. But the. I ask him go check the cameras or audit the register right. This would be the sensible thing to do. He agrees and says he's going to go check the camera. Another 10 minutes pass and he comes back to tell me sorry, can't check the camera. Only managers have access. Well go get a manager. I tell him your making your problem, my problem at this point. Today I picked up a cake a third of the cupcakes were flipped upside down, it sucks when they fuck up orders that you pay money for and expect them to be in good condition. I shop at various Jewel stores evey weekend for my weekly lunch ingredients, which includes stoping at the deli counter. It seems no matter what Jewel deli you stop at, you are enter some drama scene with the employees complaining about something. Also they are busy carping about things they constantly make mistalkes. This Jewel deli here at the Hickory Hills store seems to be the worst deli a have come across. I always have to listen to the drama going on about fellow co- workers or some personal issues. Or there constant mistakes, on one occasion I had to tell the lady behind the counter three times that she had the work item in her hands. Then she proceded to forget to remove the plastic casing off of the lunch meat which I did not see when I made my sandwhich. My first bite I got to floss my teeth with the casing. My last visit here was no exception, the lady was slicing the meat and you could hear the plastic casing being cut by the slicer. You would think that she would stop and peal back the casing, no! She would just pick it off the slice every time the meat was sliced. It seemed like she could not get though with me as fast as she could to do something else. read more

This store is located in a good location at 95th and Roberts Road but I have been there for the last time. I went there around noon today. I found several items in the meat area still on display even though the "sell by date" had passed by several days. Based on other reviews, I guess I should not have been surprised. In spite of this. I continued shopping since I did not need too much and a couple of things that I needed were "buy one get one free". When I went to check out, two of these free items were not recognized which created about a $13.00 overcharge on a fairly small order. This store has several very good employees but also many apathetic ones. which is what I dealt with today. Although I have not done many yelp reviews, this is the only one star one so far. I've never seen a business operate this terribly during Covid. Multiple employees have tested positive ( 1 that I know very well). They are not being asked for a negative result before returning to work . Employees are not getting temp checks, Employees do not wear their masks properly ! My siblings and I came to buy a bouquet of flowers for my brother who's having a baby shower. An old Caucasian lady in her 60s, was being very rude and didn't want to make the flowers for us , she wouldn't discuss pricing or help us pick out the flowers. She complained about not understanding what we were saying due to us wearing mask and then she proceed to ask about the authenticity of our masks and for us to KEEP AWAY FROM EACH OTHER 6 FEET. I don't know why she was so insisting on not helping us unless we obliged to her demands. We don't believe it had to do with her well being because her coworker was standing beside her. I usually do my shopping here and I was disappointed to find out that a majority of the staff are not following COVID 19 protocols. For starters, staff are not required to take their temperature upon coming into work and if they are suspected of having or showing symptoms of having COVID they are not required to show any proof of a negative test result. Staff also stated that a majority of the workers in the deli have been exposed to the virus and they weren't required to leave work. Another thing that I noticed is that in the self checkout staff aren't required to wipe down/disinfect the area after each customer. This is something I've seen other stores during this time, so it isn't uncommon. Also, staff aren't making an effort in reinforcing wearing masks within the stores, customers are free to roam around without a mask- or they are told to pull their shirt over their mouth. Staff are also not wearing masks or they wear it inappropriately. Overall, I'm very disappointed with the way the staff are handling the situation. This location should be avoided! read more

I have been shopping at this Jewel for eighteen years, Sunday August 26, 2018 will be the last time. Over the past year I have noticed that things are not as clean as they need to be. I walked past the seafood counter and I thought I would throw up, the smell was horrible. The racks in the dairy case that hold the gallons of milk have not been cleaned in a long time, there is milk dried and caked on. The cooler where eggs are kept is totally disgusting underneath the cartons with broken egg yolks. Out of date yogurt and the final straw was seeing the mouse bait trap sitting in the store exit area. I'm done with Jewel. read more
