This review is based mainly upon my experience with the seafood department, however, my general impression of the entire store was positive. The seafood department was literally the most gorgeous I've ever seen. The display was a work of art, the product I brought home was fresh and tasty, and the customer service was stellar. The gentleman handed me my orders by hand, stepping out of the department, instead of sliding it across the counter at me. Not a huge deal, just left me impressed. As for the rest of the store, my experience was pretty brief, since I was mainly there to grab some seafood for dinner. I really liked that the weekly ad for Vitamin Water was BEFORE you got to the check out, with the opportunity to grab a bottle right there. (At the Jewel location I left recently, the ad was posted by the cashier. Like I'm going to hold up the line to send a bagger to go get me some Vitamin Water. I asked the cashier if people actually do that and he said, "No, it's a terrible spot for an ad. We try to tell them upstairs, but you know. You can't tell them anything.) Point being, I will not return to that Jewel. Especially when this beautiful store is only slightly farther from my home. Even though it's in the opposite direction from everywhere I travel, I'll still go out of my way to visit this location. read more

Honestly i used to really like going to jewel, always had a great experience and yes few screw ups but they were all relativity minor. once i moved Crestwood i figured i would continue to use jewel as i have always done. the first few times i went it was the same little minor issues like stuff not in stock or an incorrect price. but this last year now has been a change for the worse. about 8 months ago there was an employee stocking in the freezer section and she was mumbling under her breath about me being in the way when i was grabbing a frozen pizza. i asked if she had something she needed to say she replied not that you already heard. i asked to speak to the manager and was told there was none on duty. sure, fine, whatever.. then about 5 months ago i bought gluten free gnocchi and when i got home i noticed that it was expired by about 3 months. i went back to the store and returned it and got a refund because of course it wasn't in stock. next visit i get pizza sauce and when i get home it is also expired by about 3 months... again i got back and show the employee at the help desk and she was apologetic and said that shouldn't happen. refund received got a none expired jar which was in the back. btw i found 4 other jars all expired... next visit which was last week i purchased el mirgo tortillas and put them in the fridge to save for the labor day weekend. i opened the package and all the tortillas are green from mold. now me being upset about the tortillas go back to jewel to get more. this time they are out of them (shocking i know) i pick up la providencia corn tortillas they say one the package good before september 13th 2026 i purchased them on september 7th of 2026. i get home and i pull them out of the package and guess what i find? (You will never guess it) MOLD ON THE DAMN TORTILLAS! i call the store outraged and explain what happened and they said bring it back for a refund. SO YOU WANT ME TO JUST DRIVE ON BACK WITH A SMILE ON MY FACE AND ASK NICELY FOR A REFUND FOR THE 5TH TIME OF GETTING EXPIRED FOOD??? HOW ABOUT THIS, CHECK THE FOOD YOU ARE SELLING TO YOUR CUSTOMERS. YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO KILL SOMEONE. Management doesn't seem to care and there lack of quality control and commitment to the community they serve. and their mission statement of "All our stores--no matter under which banner they operate--were founded on the philosophy of offering customers the products they want at a fair price, with lots of tender, loving care. We still open our doors every day today with that core value in mind--and because of it, we run really great stores." My regular experience at Jewel in general is to spend a lot of money on groceries and then watch the baggers systematically destroy them. They are clearly not trained at all, as they do things like place a container of ice cream on top of a bag of leafy greens. I gave up on the 131st Street location for this reason and had a brief respite at this location, but today the bagger here was worse than any I've ever had. Groceries are so expensive, and Jewel seems completely fine with their baggers destroying them after we've paid for them. I'm so done. The rest of the store is just fine, but that means nothing if I can't get past the checkout without my purchases getting damaged. read more

I have been shopping at this Jewel for many years. From the time Dominick's closed (the only other competitor in town), this store has gone downhill in terms of service and quality. Some examples: - many expired items on shelves - produce staples unavailable (celery, parsley, onions, etc) - deli counter understaffed; long lines - empty and/or not properly faced shelves - few cashiers and/or baggers during peak times - baggers appear to be poorly trained ( don't put the bread in with the canned food, put meat in plastic bag, watch how heavy you make the bags,etc.). I am not referring to special-needs baggers, who do a good job, and I commend Jewel for giving them job opportunities. - I understand the digital coupons are a corporate decision, but they are annoying and especially frustrating for seniors who may not be tech-savvy. When I have the time, I will go out of my way to shop at the Jewel on 131st and LaGrange. read more

The electric cart is horrible. It's so slow my crippled grandma walks faster. Also the battery life is so horrible. My phone won't even reach 4% without the cart dying. I also fell down and no employees helped me. But Micheal came by and helped me find strawberries, and bananas. I want you to give him a raise. Items here frequently ring up incorrectly. Should one dare to point this out, the checker directs you to the customer service counter where the person there instantly becomes rude, defensive, and makes it out to be your mistake. After a needless back and forth, they begrudgingly refund the difference as if they were doing you a favor. The last time this happened was Sunday, May 3rd, 2026. Upon returning home, I called the customer service number. They listened to my concern and then asked if I would like the store manager to call me. I said yes. I was then asked when a good time would be for that call. I answered that Monday the 4th after 10:00 AM would be fine. I was told to expect a call. Not surprisingly, I received no such call. If this was the first time I was treated this poorly, I would not bother with this. It does not happen every time there is a pricing issue, but it happens often enough. read more

A lot to improve. Produce is often out of staples- celery etc. I'm always told "we didnt get any". And beware! When something goes on sale, it's probably close to its expire date. Or if produce is on sale it is likely fully ripe and has to be eaten immediately. And constantly understaffed at deli. Long long lines. And last, the cash register often doesn't give the prices you think you are getting. I often take pictures of the digital coupons or the $2 off the potato chips to show the cashier because otherwise you may not get the sale prices. This is NOT the cashier's fault. This is my neighborhood Jewel and I've never had any problems. People are friendly and everything is usually in stock. However, last night when I went to check out, they have a survey on the chip machine. I usually skip it but the cashier Lorena said don't skip it and she entered all top numbers for the survey. She entered all 10 throughout the entire survey! Would you recommend this store, 10, I would. How is the service, 10, excellent. Those are NOT my answers. I don't like the dishonesty in this. I've seen her do it to ALL the clients. She just takes over and hit 10, 10, 10. I feel she is putting in for EVERYONE which are lies. Those are NOT my answers. Now I will give the store 1's just to compensate the dishonesty of the cashier's answers even if they deserve a 10. I gave them 2 star just because everything else is actually fine. I had ordered a fried chicken dinner about 2 weeks ago, and it was just awful. The breading on the chicken was soggy and practically dripping right off of the meat, and the meat itself tasted off; a lot cheaper than jewel osco chicken usually tastes. The potatoes were even worse, they had no actual flavor, but an aftertaste that was... plastic, it tasted like plastic (old cooking oil being used?). I will never get chicken from this location again. Otherwise, good selection and convenient location, the kosher section always has what I need. a lot of the employees, however, seem to ignore everybody, the only one who was able to assist me was Sean in the dairy section, he was very helpful. The most terrible Jewel Osco I have ever come across. I used to work here in the deli years ago, and Samantha Moore is the worst human alive. Gross attitude, terrible to work with, and whenever she walked by me she smelled like straight up rotting fish. I signed up to work in the deli, NOT meat market with all of the fish. Kevin, the manager and two other specific individuals are buying drugs off of eachother. Not the good kind either, and NONE of them are kind to you when you ask for help with something. What can one say about a Jewel - most are pretty much the same. I think most people go to a Jewel solely for its convenience ... a Jewel store just isn't a brand you would drive out of your way to shop at - like a Whole Foods or Mariano's are. I suspect Jewel tries to save a few dollars by skimping here and there on staff - and that shows in everyone's attitude ... it doesn't seem like many appreciate jobs at Jewel food stores. This Jewel is nicely located in Palos Heights, just off Harlem Avenue. Like many of its sister stores, the shelves aren't always stocked and you have to watch your dates at times. In fairness to Jewel though, they do carry a wider array of products (when they have them in stock) than the other specialty stores do. Nice big store, large parking lot, attractive location. When its convenient or you just need to pick up this or that, this is a place to stop. read more

Horrible every time I'm forced to enter...they have a chokehold on Palos Heights...once a new grocery store is ALLOWED to open down the street then none of us will ever enter it again. Some shady dealings only allowing one junky grocery store in Palos Heights is the only thing keeping it open. I absolutely detest the Jewel store in Palos Heights. To start with, the parking lot is dangerous. Traffic both ways & nobody looks when they back out. Many times, there are no vacant shopping carts. We've had someone walk away with ours twice now. A few months back, the entire store was reorganized. Think you know which isle your item is in? Wrong! Often, the employees don't even know. But it's fun, kind of, to watch other shoppers wander around like zombies, just like you are. I would recommend driving 1 1/2 miles to the Jewel at 131st and LaGrange Rd. read more

Prior to living in Palos I lived in New Lenox and shopped at Nelson road, Rt 30 and Lagrange, Tinley on 171st, etc and this store has the hardest working and kindest employees I've ever dealt with. They have alot of long term employees and they really have job pride. I sure hope they are taken care of. Food is up to the usual Jewel standards. Store is clean and bright with large aisles. I come here because its a larger Jewel, newly remodeled, with plenty of parking. I like the area as well. As far as the store is concerned, they are often out of product. The cashiers are slow. The baggers are, wait, there are no baggers! If I'm dropping $200 on groceries I'd better not be bagging it myself. I could go to Food4Less, bag my own stuff, and save 30%. This place doesn't ever seem to improve. I came here last evening (June 2, 2020). I called first to check on store hours. They were supposed to be open until midnight. When I was there shopping an announcement was made that they were closing at 9:30 PM. That's a bunch of crap. I called first and was given bad information. So im asking for ham or something and the kid is visibly irritated already like just having a bad day, he keeps copping an attitude with me about how thin the meat could go. He declared, "that's as thin as it goes." (Really? Cuz I used to be a lunch lady and I also cut deli meat and I know very well you can order it smaller than a quarter inch thick!) Anyhow he was so irritated about this I just said FINE- ITS FINE. Then he again copped an attitude and proclaimed "are you sure cuz you don't look very sure"- in the rudest possible way. I was speechless. Im more than twice his age! Why is this kid talking to me like this? Over deli meat? I got so upset I asked him just to hurry up so I can get the hell out of there. Two weeks later(in spongebob narrator voice) I return to the notorious deli. The punk kid is also there- we lock eyes. He goes to some lady, they start clearly talking about me whispering. Looking up at me, talking some more. I said "WELL THAT WAS AWKWARD!" And the kid replied, "yea sorry I cant help you." Wow. So much for professionalism- good people skills, customer service. Produce is always bad and a lot of times out of stock, just like everything else in the store. No matter what I need, it is almost always guaranteed to be out of stock. The one star is for the employees b/c I have always had good experiences w/them. I heard a rumor that Albertson's pays the rent on the vacant Dominick's building on 127th and Ridgeland to keep competition out of the area. If this is true, there isn't any incentive for this Jewel to improve b/c it's the most convenient grocery store for Palos Heights residents. Personally, I've decided to forgo convenience and have taken my business to Mariano's in Orland despite the longer drive. At least the food will be in stock and fresh. read more

Do you toss your receipt after a shopping trip to this Jewel because you will need to return items that are expired, spoiled, moldy or damaged! I've experienced all of these that are mentioned! All shoppers should check expiration dates and examine their produce carefully before purchasing! If all shoppers bring any expired or damaged food items to the front desk, they may start to be more responsible! The best solution is to stop shopping here! read more

I'm so tired of this particular Jewel. I've said it many times that I'd never go there again, yet I do bc the convenience of proximity. But now I vow to never do it again. I'm just simply not able to buy any of my staples without mold on it. I have a brand that I like, Turino rustic rye bread. and its located on the top shelf. so when I had to stand on one shelf to look up there and get one down, I noticed MULTIPLE loaves of bread that were from top to end covered in blue fuzzy mold. when they expire the employees just throw it up there as if the top shelf is something that no one uses. yesterday I bought a bag of oranges. they were fine and the next day not just one, but ALL OF THEM moldy. I had to throw out my raspberries and blackberries as well. So much wasted money and food. what's going on in quality control or, idk, any group meeetings between employees to discuss this? or are we just throwing that up on the top shelf too? bye. read more

Jewel management needs to think before they decide to rearrange the store. It was rearranged just a couple of years ago and now they are doing i again. I guess they found out that the shoppers now knew where things were so they should redo it to keep people in the store longer wandering around. So now they are making the aisles longer - from front to back with now middle aisle. So you have to go all the way up and down to get a few items - IF you can find them. With the COVID crisis keeping people roaming around longer than necessary is NOT a good idea. Also in order to make it easier on them, they let the shelves dwindle down to almost bare so they didn't have to move as much. This caused people to wander more and come back more often. Not a way to make happy customers. I heard many elderly people (like me) complaining that they couldn't handle all the extra walking with the longer aisles and they would be going elsewhere from now on. The only close supermarket to me. Been there about 10 times and I will not come back. Jewel is trying to position itself as an alternative to Mariano's and no they can't. Like 3 week ago I went there looking for powdered buttermilk. Not a common item, but something that you can find in any respectable grocer. I asked one of the managers. He took me to where they were supposed to be. None was there. Been there many times. No one has reordered after 3 weeks. Went there looking for cilantro. They had none. I remember been there looking for other 2 basic things I can't remember. Another miss. Today Sunday at around 9:30 I went there for couple things and needed a dollar changed into quarters. The cashier could not because she only had 3 quarters. I asked for nickels and dimes instead. No nickels or dimes. It was "too early" she said. That this happen is not bad is not a big issue, but when you add that this supermarket's value proposition is excellency in service and a good assortment, you can see that someone is not paying attention. Then one last thing. Today I also looked for nutmegs, the nut, not the powder. I found. $11.99 for 5 nuts in a jar. This Jewel is the most expensive grocer in the area with the exception of Wholefoods. The Palos Heights Jewel is the worst I have ever been too. They rarely have the "Just 4 U items" available and their selection of anything from ice cream to canned goods is lacking. Their fried chicken has no flavor which seems odd because when purchased from the Oak Forest Jewel it's delicious. I now go out of my way to drive over to the Oak Forest Jewel if I need anything more than a loaf of bread, it is just too frustrating that you can't even get the sales items! Sally Judy is by far the rudest manager I've ever come a cross in my life. Every time I tried to talk, should talk over me and interrupt, I could barely get a word in. I tried to buy champagne with my drivers license and when she tried to scan the back because it was warn she couldn't. She then asked for a different form of I.D.. I told Sally Judy she can enter it in a manually and then she suddenly became a lawyer and told me it's the law they have to scan it in and if it doesn't it's invalid. I told her that's untrue, she can manually type it it. She then said "oh by the way, your license expired and we don't accept expired driver's licenses as I.D.s" I told her it doesn't expire till March 19th, she told me "no, it's expired right now." I told her no, it expires on my birthday; March 19th and showed her again . She just laughed in my face and said "oh yeah, I keep thinking it's March." She should be fired!! What kind of a manager talks to and treats a customer like this!! Won't be back till she's gone. Horrible horrible horrible experience!!! read more

This is by far the worst pharmacy I've come across in a very long time. Every person working behind this pharmacy counter is extremely rude. I visited here for my second Covid injection and could not believe the treatment I received. Rude, I was ignored and left to sit for over a half hour when I was the only one waiting! This is the worst Jewell store in the area. It is not managed well. It is dirty and unorganized. You can go in there on Friday and the sale signs are still not out for the sale that started Wednesday. Much of the product is outdated. Produce is moldy. I went to buy a gluten free pie crust off the shelf, and there were 24 of them that were not only out of date by a few days.....they were all almost a year out of date. I got hold of the manager and showed him. He took them from me and took them to the back of the store. Two days later I went back into the store to see if I could get a new one, and all the outdated ones were back on the shelf. I mostly shop at a smaller store in Worth, but sometimes I just need something for a meal, and I end up at Jewel. They need some competition in town, but since they own the old Dominick's lease, nothing can go in that building. read more

My review is of the deli counter fried chicken. We were in Jewel to pick up a few things and thought we'd get a fried chicken meal for lunch. Eight pieces of chicken with two sides, it's a pretty good deal and we get it pretty regularly from the Hickory Hills Jewel. We never considered there'd be a difference between the two stores but boy were we wrong! The chicken was SO salty. SO SO salty. My kids wouldn't eat it after a few bites, Hubby said he felt nauseous after eating a thigh, and all of our tongues felt like they were burning for the remainder of the afternoon. I tried the mashed potatoes and gravy we got for our sides, but I couldn't tell if I was just so over-salted from the chicken that the sides tasted salty too, or if they were in fact too salty themselves.
