Today tried to shop here as was very close and only needed a few things. Two aisles of grocerys, narrow at best due to pillars, almost completely blocked with employees doing something with merchandise. That had full carts completely the length of these two aisles Obviously do not give a tinkers damn about shoppers. I was in Jewel Osco tonight and they closed all the self checkout registers an hour before closing. The employees clearly care more about getting out of there than keeping people safe in a worldwide pandemic. I guess enough people haven't died for these lazy employees that work for Jewel Osco. End result .... I traveled 5 more minutes up the road to Woodman's. I was happy to go the extra distance to spend my money where a store always has the safer option of self checkout. Been going here for about 11 years now. Store is clean but understaffed. Most staff are following covid guidelines however some wear masks below the nose area which is part of why this review is low. Most weeks when shopping here I'm looking for good coffee. I must say while the store itself needs some work with regards to covid guidelines I strongly recommend Califia Arabica cold brew coffee! With their cold brew medium roast it puts Starbucks to shame. Strongly advise searching for it at your local Jewel! read more

I placed an order through the Jewel app on December 20th. This order included a buy one, get one free coupon for bread, so I ordered two loaves of bread which were included with the coupon. Both were listed as in stock, but one of the two was cancelled. The app offered a substitution but it was not part of the coupon, and did not allow me to select any of the breads which WERE part of the coupon as substitutions, even though there were several others still showing as in stock, which basically meant they were going to charge me the same price but only give me half of what I ordered. I sent an email through the app requesting this be corrected before my scheduled pickup time several hours later, but they never responded, so I sent another requesting cancellation. They informed me that the order was cancelled and would be refunded within 5-7 business days. Even with two non-business day Mondays for Christmas and New Years, it should have been refunded by January 2nd at the very latest. When it wasn't, I sent several follow-up emails requesting information on when the refund WOULD be sent, but all were ignored. So I went through the app and submitted an entirely new request, and finally got an answer on January 4th stating that the refund would be expedited and sent that night. Now, four days later, I STILL have not received my refund to my debit card/bank, and was never told that it would be refunded any other way, such as a check by mail. So, they keep ignoring my requests for updates, and when I force the issue, they lie to me about having refunded it. My advice? Do not, under any circumstances, use their app/online ordering system, because they will use it to screw you out of coupons and then try to screw you out of a refund. read more

I always have a good experience here. Staff is very friendly and plesant. Love the produce employees and selection has been decent during COVId. Consistent mask wearing by staff and customers. It took me a while to get used to the new layout after the remodel. I'm not in love with it but I can find things finally after several visits. Supplies are sufficient and variety is good. I wish they carried the 24pk of cold jello the Mundelein location does. I might ask them to since that's why I go to the other store occasionally. My favorite things to buy at this location are produce, milk and canned goods. I know many hate on this location especially since the remodel a few years back. I shop more here than Target now (Target's remodel was a turn off for sure). read more

Buying groceries is such a hassle and a lot of work especially when the grocery store is not good. Yesterday, we run out of groceries in our apartment, my board mate and I decided to go grocery shopping and we did not go to our usual, which is the grocery shop a few blocks away because they sometimes lack some products. So we tried finding another shop and we saw Jewel Osco, I've been to some Jewel Osco Stores and they are all nice. We were welcomed by their friendly staff, although the number of staff is less than expected they are all doing a great job. Since we don't know where the stuff we need is, we looked throughout the store and familiarized ourselves, of course, we can easily ask the staff and they are very willing to answer but we enjoyed it. The groceries are all fresh and all the shelves are organized. All products, of course, vary in price but they are a lot cheaper than the place we were shopping. We had a nice experience here and will go back again. read more

One of the managers were extremely mean. She had accused me 10 year old brother of trying to steal condoms while we were in the checkout and I was paying. Why would a ten year old do that. It made me so upset and she didn't even apologize she had told him to empty his pockets. I told him to and obviously he had nothing. She didn't say anything after that and I had said she was being rude and she talked back and was giving horrible customer experience. Now I don't shop here often I got to woodmans. I was in Jewel today at about 4 pm(I don't have a choice in this podunk town!), and a lady walks right next to me with no mask on...well, technically, probably according to her, she had one on, entirely under her chin. Very inconsiderate towards others. I ask an employee, he says only the managers are allowed to say something. There are 4 Jewels within 10 minutes of our place and Wauconda is our favorite. It is friendly and old school. The complimentary coffee is always fresh & hot, and they have awesome cookie samples by the bakery. It doesn't at all feel like it's trying to be more like Whole Foods, and we like it that way. I've lived in Wauconda area for over 20 years and have visited at least ten other Jewel stores throughout north suburbs and Chicago, this one is clearly disgusting!! A 1 Star rating is generous. Take your hard earned money and business elsewhere. Always out of stock on items, brands and selection, not to mention expired items on shelves. Management has no customer service acumen. After months of the same experience I finally spoke out about the service to both the front manager (Cody) and Store Manager on staff today (Allen). I nicely expressed my disappointment and gave specific examples about my shopping experience there with consistent out of stock items and compromises I was having to make...neither had any true customer service response of "I'm really sorry to hear that was your experience" or "We will look into the frustrations you raised." Allen simply said thank you and have a great day. They don't get it. I anticipated more of an understanding and concerned response. Again, go to another Jewel or other chain that cares about a good customer experience and can manage inventories. read more

When my husband and I moved to Wauconda in 2006, this became my grocery store. However, once I got introduced to Mariano's (in Vernon Hills), I cannot go back to any Jewel or Dominick's. I think their deli is overpriced or overrated. Their ground meat or chicken breast are priced well. However, there is really no reason for me to return to Jewel - - - only exception would be if there is an exceptional sale (ie. Gatorade, Yogurt, etc). read more

I went shopping today and most of the eggs (especially the eggland brand were expired or about to expire. I couldn't believe a lot of them have expired in May! Then I went to the yogurt isle and the same thing. They had lunch meats on sale (hillshire) and they too were either expired or close to it. So the cashier ask me if I found everything ok and I told him, I just got a look and nothing else. As I was was exiting I told the store manager that maybe they should send someone back to these areas because someone is going to get sick if they don't see the dates. She just look at me with a grumpy face and didn't say a word. I was polite up until then. Then I said shame on you if you already know about this and have done nothing and shame on you now that you know and apparently you don't care enough to do something about it. I use the Osco Pharmacy in Wauconda. I have been for at least a year or better now. The staff behind the counter at Osco is so friendly and helpful, polite, courteous, fun yet professional in every way. They are informative and willing to take an extra moment out for you if need be no matter how busy they are. When you are at the counter you are the highest priority they have to address. I have personally seen them get verbally abused by customers that just "don't get it". They have handled the situation with the highest regard to respect to this person. My wife watched a very irate person extremely verbally abuse one of the pharmacists because the prescription they presented was well over a year old. (This person evidently made that point very clear to all people in the area.) The pharmacist held their composure and handled the event nothing short of professionally. My wife was the next in line and was still greeted with a warm smile and friendly greeting. Kudos! That's class. Thanks again to all the staff members behind that pharmacy counter. You all do a great job and I am wholeheartedly pleased to be your customer. Although for the past +20 years of living here in town I lost faith in our Jewel grocery store as they are never prepared and stocked when they open.(This is great if you are a 9 - 5'er or start shopping after 11:00 am) The staff isn't really that friendly unless they know you (now that the red carpet campaign is well over with). However some of staff is real polite after you check out and ask you for a rating. The "Fast Lane" is an oxymoron. The meat I purchase really isn't that good of a quality and hasn't seemed to be in years. (I don't remember T-bones, Porterhouse and filet's having so much if any grizzle) The veggies are meant to be consumed the day of purchase (Heck, the Mercado has the same produce) and you really, (and I mean really) need to watch the expiration dates at this store unless you are consuming your product very soon if not immediately. I don't get it Jewel. Why can't you have your store stocked and ready when you open? Every business I ever worked for was ready at opening time. I work 2nd shift so I do my shopping between 9:00 and 10:00 am. Your meat and fish counter is rarely if even stocked. The meat and fish in the cooler isle hasn't been restocked. The meats are not the best quality as I get a lot of grizzle when I'd get it. You pay the same price for better quality at a butcher shop. I also agree with the other person about the produce. I haven't had much luck with freshness and shelf life. I also agree that the expiration dates you must check! The Lake Zurich store seems to have better quality produce as well as selection. I think they go though it faster so the get fresher product. The staff here is friendly on a given days. I have begun shopping for better meat quality and pricing at Island Foods and I shop the Hispanic markets in town for the same produce at better pricing. I have lived in town for over 20 years and Jewel, you still don't catch on. Sorry guys. As long as I have a car I'm not a prisoner of your store. read more

I always enjoy shopping there, I find a lot of great sales, the store is always clean and employees are very helpful and friendly.

What I want to talk about the PEOPLE. I'm handicapped and use my Hoveround to get from the other side of the lake to the store + do my shopping. The store employees have been uniformly friendly and helpful, getting things from high shelves for me, suggesting which produce or meat is Really Good today.... And the stock boys are incredibly good at packing my groceries so I can safely get them home. I agree w/a lot that's been said about the produce. I've found similar problems since the last corporate ownership change. I've gone to the USDAs website to find out what kind of "wiggle room" the "USE BY" date has on cans + frozen goods. And, since I was raised on a chicken farm, I'm really not too worried by the expiration date on the eggs. read more

Have been going to this jewel for as long as i've lived in wauconda. You have to use their produce almost immediately when you bring it home or it is spoiled. Their store brand whatever it is these days is of horrible quality. And last, be careful with the store brand milk- always goes bad way before its expire date. I give them 2 stars to account for the fact that the staff is very nice. Whether it's the deli, or bakery, or checkout, everyone is professional and helps if you have a problem. That said, this grocery store has become a joke. The produce is 75% gross (not sure if that's due to supplier or just being old), products all over the store are past their "good by" date, if you examine the fruit pies in the bakery, many have mold growing on the bottom crust, the selection of items has decreased dramatically just in the past 3 yrs (but if you go to the jewel down the road in Lake Zurich, they have EVERYTHING that used to be here), they frequently have ONE checkout lane open and force people through the self-checkout lanes which backs everything up because a mom with 2 toddlers is trying to wrangle her kids while scanning her full cart of groceries, an old man is trying to pay with cash by shoving it into the screen, and someone else is yelling at the computer voice for saying she put an unauthorized item on the belt when all she really did was set her purse down to get her wallet out. And prices ----- you can go to any other grocery store except probably Whole Foods and get better quality for lower prices. When the Dominicks on 176 closed a few years ago, Jewel took over the lease of that building. Fresh Market was interested in going in there, but Jewel wouldn't lease to them. Instead, they've kept decreasing their own quality, upping their prices and ensuring that locals are tethered to them for grocery trips when we don't have time to go out of town to shop. They really need to just revamp their store concept. I can't see this place lasting as it currently operates for much longer.
