I tried to apologize to her, but she kept giving me attitude and called me very hurtful things. Ever since the Kroger buyout, this place has been circling the bowl. The quality, selection, and availability of prepared foods had gone down. Stock is much less reliable. Things I need will be missing 2 visits out of three, or will be dropped suddenly despite obviously brisk sales. The staff will not leave you alone at the self-checkout. They over-engage every customer who just wants to check out in peace, then are so distracted with their forced engagement that it's hard to get their attention when there's an issue. Even the brown paper grocery bags have inexplicably shrunk. Like *that* was how they were going to get an edge. It's not like they're competitive on price at all. Which would be more tolerable if the stores were as nice and the selection and range of services was as good as it used to be. It's just a more expensive Jewel now. Oh, and every sale requires you buy ridiculous multiples. It goes like this: Normal price - Exorbitant. Sale price - Slightly higher than Target everyday price. Super deal - A bit lower than Target, but must buy minimum of 90 (ok, 5 - but still). All to shop in a definitively mediocre-feeling store with a very cheesy music playlist. Oh, and back on the prepared foods. Healthy options barely exist. They used to have smoked turkey breast (at least at many locations) and nice, properly cooked skinless boneless chicken breasts. Now the former is gone and the latter are scrawny and overly salted. But they sure love pushing big pizza slabs and fried chicken and smoked sausages and mashed potatoes! It's like a funhouse mirror/Waffle House version of what Mariano's used to be. And the whole neighborhood knows it! Local social media groups that my wife observes contain lamentation after lamentation about how sad this Mariano's has become. Kroger *has* to know. They just don't care. Oh, and don't bother trying to call to offer feedback. I did. Asked the voice rec system for the store manager. Got someone else. Two transfers later, I had talked to three people, none of whom had identified themselves as a store manager. Most just seemed to be nodding. No concern was shown whatsoever, no follow up expressed or implied. I did empathize with them noting the "changes" they were going through thanks to new boss Kroger. Speaking of which, don't contact Mariano's/Kroger customer service. Their motto is clearly "Talk To The Hand." Their feedback form won't submit unless you include a loyalty number (pro tip: make one up). Their chat people take forever for every reply, ask you tons of extraneous "verification" questions, then just tell you they're sending your feedback to a circular file. No stated response method or timeline. Their phone bank had me on hold for 10 minutes. A man answered, identified himself as "Charlie" (doubtful), and asked my first name. I told him. He apparently didn't hear me, but also didn't ask again. So he just hung up. Probably for the best. He would have just made me repeat everything I said in chat and then "assured" me it would be forwarded to "the right department." Circular file. Kroger is *daring* you to shop elsewhere. Challenge accepted! One last thing, a bit of comedy: I really appreciate the store's hilarious, loud notifications that they are surveilling the parking lot with cameras at all times. Yes, when you're only open until 10PM and are located *directly next to the Palatine Police Station*, you just know that the muggers are sizing up every shopper. We love this location. Devlyn and Rose waited on us and they were both so pleasantly kind and accommodating. My daughter loves the brownies and they warmed one up for her and gave her a water cup. It felt like family was waiting on us. We were the only customers and they were very nice to my 9 year old daughter and had a conversation with her. They really made her day and took this picture with her! We will be back again when we are in the area for sure A+ service. So clean and located in the Mariano's. read more

Eh, not bad, not bad at all. I'd score the trip today a 7 out of 10 or a upper 6's out of 10. 1. The store layout hasn't changed in ages, traffic flow through the store is finicky at best. I feel like an interior redesign is definitely coming due. 2. The sushi which is often what sticks in my craw for not being fresh was actually this time around fresh. They also had a conspicuously placed sign indicating to ask staff for assistance if fresh sushi is needed or the selection isn't what you desire. 3. The staff were very busy and in some areas seemed disorganized, I would like to see call buttons scattered throughout the store like Walgreens where people could have a call switch in each department to call for a departmental staff member or manager in the event of a need for assistance or in the event of a product spill etc. Nonetheless it was a far better experience than my past experiences. It seems that Kroger is waking up to the fact that they could easily lose the entire Mariano's chain if they don't take care of it well. read more

This Marianos was a joy when it first came to town. It was a place you'd want to hang out outside of grocery shopping. Now, it has steadily lost its appeal and focus on what customers need and want. My chief complaints include the hot bar and bakery are terrible both in taste and in the ingredients they use. There are no hand baskets. They recently switched to the most useless paper bags ever. I will stay, I generally have a positive experience with the staff, they are often very kind and helpful. They are neighborhood staples. Lastly, you always have to make sure the food you're purchasing is not past expiration date. I've gotten home too many without looking at the label. read more

As far as I'm concerned, this is the best Mariano's because they always have my daughter's medication in stock. I pay more because they're not a preferred pharmacy but the "preferred" pharmacy is always out of stock. It's finally come to this. I've got to write a bad review for a grocery store. Every time I come to this store, there are *countless* items on the shelf that are expired. You have to double check every single thing you put in your cart. It shouldn't have to be on the customer to double check expiration dates; it should be on the store to keep their shelves stocked with things that are safe and in date. On Sunday my husband came home with a month old expired yogurt and a four month old bag of tortilla chips. Four months! And no one thought to check if the chips were in code? Insane. What an absolute SHOCK. This store has completely given up. I walked in today at 5:20, and went to the hot bar to grab fried chicken and some Mac and cheese. I look into the hot bar and there are 5 trays basically completely empty, all I think were vegetables or sides, like the Mac and cheese, Brussels sprouts, etc. I turned and a young clerk was walking toward me so I asked him who was responsible, so they could replace at least the Mac and cheese for me. He is clueless about who's responsible for maintaining it, and tells me he will go and find out. I wait, and another older employee comes up and says, "whatever is out here is what we have." I said, "you mean at 5:25 you're not going to refill any of these trays?" His reply was, "no, the ovens broke." He sounded like he was full of crap. I decide, well maybe I'll get some soup. The hot soup bar has 2 soups on, and one of them looks like a 4 year old was operating the ladle, 8 hours ago. It was a total and complete train wreck of a mess. Disgusting. Then I turn, really just to LOOK at the pizza slices. 9 feet of marble and there are four crappy edges of pizza and the entire thing was dirty and gross. Truly unbelievable, until this. I walk over to this junior mgr, who is now standing next to the ASSISTANT STORE MANAGER, didn't catch his name. I interrupted their discussion and told this manager directly how shocked I was at the status of this mess, that used to be great. His reply, verbatim, was "thank you for shopping at Mariano's." He then turned back to the employee and continued his conversation. I would normally engage an ass like this, but felt it wasn't even worth the effort. I will only step into that store once more, when I go there tomorrow to reem the store director. Bob Mariano would be shocked and appalled. read more

I have to update my review of this Mariano's. Recently that have been revamping the place and I have to say it is a very welcomed change. A Starbucks counter has been added that adds a really open and fresh look. Specialized food displays have been added. I'm enjoying my shopping experience there now. It's a fresh, clean and well designed change. Produce, deli, bakery and meats all look great as well! read more

We visit this place at least once a week. It has a great variety of fresh fruits and vegetables at great prices, and always great savings on many many items! The bakery items are great as well. I must buy something every visit. The white chocolate macadamia cookies (picture included) are some of my favorite cookies ever! I also love their cheese selection. If you like mozzarella there is a smoked mozzarella in the fridge section across from the charcuterie that is worth buying. They also have a great selection of the pre-packaged salads I love. I could go on and on about my "favorite" items but instead I will just tell you to check it out yourself and I am sure you will not be disappointed! read more

Overall, to me Mariano's is the best grocery store in the area. While it was a bit chaotic to come here after their grand opening, they've worked out most of the problems and performs very well in pretty much every category. Service: While sometimes it can be a little slow to get things from the deli or bakery when they are busy, the queues move pretty fast. During less busy hours, employees are helpful and courteous. Checkout lanes: Despite some slowdowns at the beginning (since some more exotic items like Dragonfruit or some types of greens aren't instantly recognizable by some people), overall the lines are a decent length and there are many checkout lanes open. At busy times, there's even a person that helps direct people to less busy lanes. The baggers have been careful about separating items properly and not stuffing bags too full. I have not experienced any double scans or items lacking barcodes or price tags yet. Quality of meat and produce: Overall the meat selection is good here, even carrying free-range, natural, and organic items. You won't find some of the less common organ, blood, fat, or bone items you'll find at some of the other international markets but they will carry the major selections (beef, chicken, lamb, veal, pork, fish, seafood) at a good price. The produce is among the freshest around with a good selection of natural and organic items. They also tend to carry many different varieties of fruits and vegetables that other local groceries don't carry if you like to try something different. My only criticism is that their most exotic fruit selections are very expensive but that is probably because of the low consumption and cost of shipping these items so far (as well as their short shelf life). Availability of gourmet food: Besides good pricing on the staple items, this is probably he biggest draw of the grocery store. Even if you aren't looking to spend a lot, Mariano's carries the complete line of many major brands (like most flavors of International Delight or Coffeemate creamers, or pretty much every variety of Chips Ahoy! or Oreos). For natural and organic items (including teas as well), they have an unusually large selection. While you won't find some of the pricier brands you'll find at Whole Foods, they do carry many of the major brands you'll find at other non-specialty grocery stores. However, these are at much better prices than the other stores, allowing you to eat high quality foods at only a little more than normal groceries. They also carry a relatively large selection of international items. Store Brand: Good price, relatively good quality. While not as good as Kirkland Signature, it's of a quality similar to Target or Meijer's store brands. Since you can get store brand natural/organic items for similar price to normal food, you can eat better than normal without spending an extra dime. Price: Given the selection of items, it is very competitive in price, similar to Meijer which also has a good selection of more premium items. Mostly, you deal with everyday low prices instead of waiting for specific items to be on an extreme sale. The advertisement is clear on pricing and attractive looking. You are not required to get a loyalty card here for savings. Cleanliness: The store seems pretty clean overall and the restrooms are nicer than the normal. The decor is a bit plain, but that could be for cost considerations, similar to what you'd expect from Eurofresh or Joe Caputo. It is well laid out and spacious though but considering the image of quality from the products they carry, it would be nice to have a comfortable environment (kind of like the Target shopping experience). Parking: There are a good amount of spaces and the parking spacious are of a decent size. Unlike the Arlington Heights location, you enter from the back of the lot so you are not forced to drive around pedestrians entering and exiting the store. There's a good number of cart return areas. The traffic around the store is not too bad most of the day but it would be nicer if it were on a different intersection with more ways to enter the lot. Mariano's is a unique store which is kind of a mix between international / produce specialist / gourmet shop / organic-natural food store all at good prices. It's hard to really explain what makes the store so appealing but you'll be glad you made the trip. read more

I love this Mariano's! I have been going to the Mariano's in Arlington Heights but this new location in Palatine is way better in my opinion and has taken the place of the AH location for me. They have everything the AH location has, in fact, the entire store layout is the exact same in every aisle and nook and cranny as the AH location. Mariano's is an awesome store! Their customer service is fantastic, prices are great, selections are vast and the items in their bakery are some of the best in the area. They have their special Monopoly promotion going on right now which is a lot of fun and bringing me back in the store & spending more money than I should! I'm a loyal Mariano's devotee. Mariano's is always busy so the only tip I can give is to go during the day on a weekday, it's slightly less busy during that time. read more

Been shopping here for over 10 years! This Mariano's location and the Schaumburg Costco are the only 2 places I get my groceries from! Never had a bad experience at this Mariano's the whole time I shopped here. Love the huge, tasteful and reasonably priced food and drink items here! I actually stopped shopping at Whole Foods over 10 years ago because I found better, fresher and lower priced produce and fish here, plus this location is only 10 minutes from home! Last, it is still clean, brightly lit, organized and welcoming inside, plus the employees who work here are very knowledgeable, friendly, professional and efficient!!! I am happy to continue doing my grocery shopping here until the end of time. I do wish they still sold their gelato and deviled eggs here though! Mixed feelings about this place. I do like the selection and the app that gives you free Friday downloads for coupons to get a different freebie each Friday. It's also nice because they put the freebie item at the end of the aisle up front for easy access. What I don't like is when they changed their rewards system last year, and my old membership card no longer worked. I got a new card, but somehow things got screwed up and didn't sync properly. So when I was trying to select rebates from the Ibotta app and use the bar code off that app or the bar code off my Mariano's membership key card, it would never recognize my coupons and would charge me full price for the items. Depending on the cashier, they might just look at me and shrug, but once one of the guys was super nice and still gave me the Free Friday items for free. The items usually only cost a buck or so, so it's not really about the money, but more about the principle of the matter. After spending so much time clipping coupons, I want to get my discounts! Now I've found that the only thing that works is to type my phone number into the keypad. Today I had a paper manufacturer coupon for a free Chobani yogurt, and I put it on the conveyer belt with my groceries... and the coupon got sucked into the crack and went under the belt, never to be seen again. The cashier couldn't get it out and asked me how much the coupon was worth. After I told him it was free, he completely ignored my answer and still charged me full price. :( This was a freak accident, but all the difficulties with redeeming coupons here have caused multiple arguments with my bf, which made grocery shopping here extremely unpleasant. To maintain harmony, I'm at the point where I guess I shouldn't try to use coupons here anymore, or just buy groceries somewhere else. read more

Definitely a place worth visiting, the food is fantastic and well prepared, the prices are reasonable and it is constantly well organized here. 5 stars.I love this store and the location. Staff is always very friendly, I only had one problem with a cashier I don't want to point her out simply, because i don't want to embarrassed her, It was around 7.30 pm. I guess the store was getting ready to close soon she was cleaning the belt, I asked her if she wanted me to go to a different cash? she said its fine, but kept cleaning, so i couldn't put my food on the belt, she was staring at me weird, I was like ok? I will go to another cash then and she didn't say anything, she lacks personality and just comes off rude, I try to avoid her every time i go because she never says hi or anything.. as for everything else perfect! The meat & seafood dept - the people behind the counter are so knowledgable about what they have. Some are better than others, but once you shop here enough you will know who the really good ones are. Nacho was my main meat man, but I think he's taken a early retirement. The bakery dept. - everything is fresh and delicious! In a pinch they can quickly and nearly write something on a cake or cookie, but all the other stuff will need to be ordered. Their hamburger cake and monster cake are the favorites in our house. The buttercream on these cakes are just right, not oily and not overly sweet, but just decadent enough to make a slice of cake feel luxurious. The deli - always packed with people waiting because things are just that fresh! There are never less than 5 people behind the counter, ALL working on orders, not talking in a corner or washing things like at Jewel or Tony's. They're nonstop slicing and scooping. The gelato and coffee - Gelato is smooth and creamy. If you order to go, they pack the container in ice to keep it cool so it won't become gelato soup by the time you get home. I Live close by and come frequently. I Have a rewards card but forgot it. Didn't remember what phone number was associated with it so tried mine and it didn't come up. Asked if Melissa (cashier) could just scan the normal one at the register like usual... She wouldn't. So then I just asked to apply again because apparently they became strict with the FREE preferred cards. Then she wouldn't because I said It was in my other car. After she preceded to call me a liar I said whatever and paid and left. If I would have had more time I would have walked out and gone to Jewel. I've been going to this Mariano's since it opened in 2012; it's the closest grocery store for me and that is mainly why I come here. I loved it the first 2 years but over the years I've had a love hate relationship with it. The good: -Great quality, price and selection of meats and seafood -Beer and liquor choices pretty decent -Beautiful bakery and they taste just as good as they look. -Gelato and coffee super cheap and good -Cheapest place for a gallon of organic milk: $5.75 -Beautiful floral arrangements -Salad bar selection is good -Sushi is actually decent and the platters are a great deal The bad: -Always crowded, except during early hours; it got worse after they closed down the Dominicks stores. -Workers are not as friendly as they used to be. -Produce prices higher compared to other grocery stores -They are almost always out of organic carrots and spinach -Forget about finding rosemary here during the holidays, 3 years in a row I had to run to Jewel or Eurofresh and one time they were out of fresh basil, geez, that's basic stuff! -Can't keep up with seasonal items; today I needed okra for my Mardi Gras gumbo and of course they were out. Eurofresh to the rescue again. -Hot food items looking sad lately The ugly: -A muffin labeled chocolate chip was actually a nut muffin; so thankful that my non nut allergy child bit into it instead of my other 2 nut allergy children. I complained to the manager and to the corporate headquarters. The manager acted like it wasn't a big deal and I never heard back from corporate. I still question why I still shop here after that incident; again it's probably because they are so dang close to my house. -Avoid this place during the holidays unless you want to make extra trips to other grocery stores because they run out of a lot of items. -Also during the holidays, unless you want to circle parking lot or park across the street-avoid Mariano's. My sister always laughs at me and wonder why I still come here; I guess if it wasn't so close I probably would have stopped shopping here. read more

Let me first say that I like Marianos when it's not crazy busy. They have a good selection of items. It is more expensive that Eurofresh by far. It has a better selection of fresh meat seafood and other items than Jewel. But am I the only one that thinks some of the soups from their soup bar are either tasteless or worse quite bad tasting. I just bought the white bean and Kale soup. Sounded so good. Not only was it bland with little garlic or carrot taste but it had a weird metallic taste. I'm not saying it was tainted. In my opinion, this newest location for Mariano's Fresh Market is one GIANT step up from their Arlington Heights counterpart for one very important reason: NO CARTS FOR KIDS. Yay! I mean, they do still have grocery carts you can put your kid in, but as of right now (4 days after the grand opening), it doesn't look like they offer those wretched kiddie carts that are a foot and half tall for children to ram into you in lieu of a babysitter while their parents shop. Other than that, I'd say that the employees are friendlier, the store set up is about the same, their cakes and other baked goods are still better and world's more affordable and attractive than Whole Foods, their beer section is nothing to call home about but their wine selection is worthy of awe, and the rest of the store still pretty much reminds me of Dominick's as far as price and selection go. Cakes or bust at Mariano's and thanks be to the MFM saint who decided NOT to have mini kiddie carts here. I owe you my first born. As of Mariano's couldn't get better! I called last week to order a cake for my bf's birthday. I was quickly transferred to the bakery, and upon stating I wanted to order a cake, was transferred to the cake decorator, Jodie. Jodie was friendly and patient as I explained I'd never ordered a cake before. She asked the important questions, and gave me some ideas. I pretty much let her run with the design, and was not disappointed. The cake was ready for pickup on time, and as always, every staff member I came into contact with was personable and helpful, down to the guy pushing carts in the parking lot as I left. Mariano's is the "Jack of all trades" of the grocery store world. At first I did not like the Mariano's but after stopping there out of convenience a few times I have decided that I like shopping there. It is like they took the small grocery store feel with the bakery, deli and produce along with the big grocery store feel of all the boxed, canned, and other processed items. The hybrid at first intimidated me since I was reminded of my days when I was going to Dominick's and Jewel. After several visits I decided that to the average shopper Mariano's is a great one-stop-shop. The produce is good with okay prices with decent prices on the processed items you no longer have to make two stops. The bakery has very nice looking items and the ones that I have tried have been excellent. The produce prices are not bad at all and they have a good selection of items that have always been fresh. I have not actually gotten anything from the deli yet but they have several ready to eat dishes that look excellent and I plan on getting something soon. The bakery is excellent - fresh, warm, and tasty! Mariano's also has a great beer and wine selection. It blows away other grocery stores and rivals some small liquor stores. This could potentially save you another stop making it a great place to get just about any consumable item. I cannot comment on other house hold items (soaps, towels, paper items) as I have yet to look at their prices. Overall, Mariano's is a great one-stop-shop. read more

For years, when you lived in the Chicago suburbs, you essentially had two choices to do your grocery shopping. On one hand, you could go to Jewel. On the other, you could go to Dominicks. Both were owned locally, and were semi-old fashioned in their products and displays. Having lived in areas that have Wegmans, Hye-Vie, Kroger and HEB, we had been spoiled. Recently, both of our local chains were sold to out of state mega-grocers. Now, I don't want to say there have been no other choices. We love Valley Produce for example. We have Butera's close by, Eurofresh Market and other small grocers. But, still. there is something to be said for a large, expansive grocer where you can get just about everything. Recently, Whole Foods opened in Schaumburg. Enter Mariano's. Mariano's opened their first location near us in Arlington Heights, IL a couple of years ago. We went a few times and liked it, but it was silly to go all the way there when there were others closer to us. Then over the past year or so, they opened one in Hoffman Estates/Schaumburg and more recently, one in Palatine. I think the one in Palatine has been open for over a year now, and today I made my virgin visit. Mariano's is clean, large and well stocked. It's also crowded. But, that's because it is a better store. The staff is friendly. They know their stuff. Mariano's has a great selection of produce, and they have some fairly unusual varieties you don't see in other stores. We only went for a quick shop - we had about a dozen items on our list (which means we left with almost a full cart). Pricing is about the same as Dominicks and Jewel, but higher than Valley and lower than Whole Foods. At the end of the day, it's a grocery store. If you can get what you want, it's fresh and the price is reasonable not much more matters. But, if you can get all of that and put it in a store that is spacious, clean, well lit, well stocked and looks good too, I would try to do more of my shopping there. read more

OK, I like Mariano's. A lot. I live in the burbs and its a few blocks away from my house and it's one of the very few places I really feel at home (Still not acclimated to the midwest yet). It's colorful, healthy (if I just don't go through the bakery and cheese section). My dad rips on it since they play the piano,but I like it. I also really like grocery shopping late at night. Mariano's doesn't open very early or stay open very late, so, shopping at 7pm on Saturday night IS late. Its emptier. No one is on line at the deli. I can walk around and bump into almost no one. Last summer, I did find out that they have a great juice bar (not many of those out here in the burbs). And they are $3.99 and $4.99. Can't beat that. It's my easiest go-to dinner. I just gave to ask the nice kids there to kick up the amount of cayenne and ginger in my blends. They are always perky, friendly and accommodating. Actually, all staff there is nice (at least my store on Hicks). And they guy who was playing the piano last night did not look quite like a professional. (looked more like a student). So, dad, I don't think they hike the prices up too much just to have a real piano player. read more

One star for deli counter, requested el primo Genoa Salami, gave me ekrich, found out when I got home, I would not have purchased this brand. Should have told me they don't carry that brand. read more

I shop for work and casually shop this location because it's closer to my customer. Was there Sunday looking for ground meat, I found the location of all ground meat but was looking for one that had to say 'lean ground' or something like that, and since I couldn't find it, I asked a lady that looked like she was working an online order, elderly with glasses. And she told me 'you have to look at the names ' and walked away.... needless to say I got reported at my job for picking the wrong meat. read more

My husband purchased flowers tonight and unfortunately they were pitiful and half dead. This is not the first time this has happened.....that he has come home with half-dead flowers from Marianos in Palatine. The sales person assured him that they were fresh and would revive and they ended up in the garbage. I have told him not to ever buy flowers at Marianos because this has happened several times but he wanted to surprise me.....I don't need or appreciate that kind pf surprise! read more

We were so excited to smoke and bake ribs from Mariano's for Memorial Day Smoked 3 hours and baked 35 minutes Done it a hundred times The meat was like rubber with no taste $22 shot. Good job Kroger we will never buy meat from Marino's again read more

I'm upping my rating for Mariano's for two reasons. 1. The friendliness and helpfulness of the employee's. From the kid who is bringing shopping carts in from the outside, to the person putting more banana's out, to the person bagging your groceries. They all show a genuine concern in helping the customer's. 2. I am a diabetic who fights sugar temptation all the time, and let me tell you it is difficult. Most "Sugar-Free" cookies taste like cardboard to me. Mariano's bakes, in house, the best sugar free chocolate cookies I have ever had! They are delicious. If you haven't shopped here yet, you are really missing out on a great experience. read more
