i've tried lately to reach out to becky after the denver merchandise mart closed, and jf relocated. i am sorry to learn of barry's passing. after spending over $80-100k in this store, i have yet to receive any reply to messaging, or voice mails from becky. i have some lovely pieces from this business when rick mcgavin was the custom fabricator, and regret my business apparently has no meaning to keep in contact & keep the $$ flowing in (her) jf options direction. am presently looking for a tennis necklace and have some good leads....i gave jf 1st choice, but communication has failed......if no messages were received, past business would deserve follow ups occassionally.....this is productive feedback to not lose touch with good customers. read more

This is a 2 part review. The 1st is that my family and I have gone to JF Options for over 20 years. The staff, Becky and Barry have been terrific. The 2nd is that I referred my brother-in-law to JF to purchase a larger diamond ring to gift my sister for a wedding anniversary. The diamond was purchased, put into a simple setting with the plan for her to select a setting of her choice, which was done. After our grandmother passed, 4 of us went in to have her jewelry appraised. Barry offered to clean my sister's ring. Upon doing so he told her there was a large flaw in the diamond. My sister seldom wears this particular ring (wears only for special occasions). We can't imagine how in the world the diamond developed such a flaw. We've wondered over the years if the actual diamond was switched when it was placed into the new setting. My sister's been heartbroken since she found out. I brought my engagement ring in for sizing and appraisal since it belonged to my husband's mother (antique!). I also asked them to custom make a wedding band to match the engagement ring as closely as they could. My husband is an engineer and drew the design on graph paper with dimensions, sizing, etc. They originally appraised the ring and were supposed to send a CAD design of the image my husband had drawn so we could review and approve. It took them two weeks just to send the ring and design to the CAD designer. A month went by before I saw anything and when I did I thought it was a joke. The "designer" had drawn something I could have done on my own! It was worthless. In no way did it resemble the beautiful design my husband had drawn. My husband contacted them to complain and they said they would send another design. This time it was a PICTURE of another ring, not a CAD design. The whole experience was miserable. Having to "check in" and "check out" seemed excessive; having to wait in the middle of an appointment while they do other things or help other customers (umm....appointment??). It took another month just to GET my ring back. Then when I went back in to finally get it, they tried to ask me to give them another chance. For what? No thanks. Even after the whole experience was finally over, Barry's wife emailed asking what our favorite restaurant was so they could send us a gift card to make up for the whole debacle....surprisingly, we never received that either?! lol Lies, lies and smoking mirrors! Do yourself a favor and disregard the bullshit five star ratings and go somewhere else! Especially if you have antique jewelry. Barry & Becky were amazing. Walked in not knowing much about the diamond making experience. Barry patiently walked me through a ton of diff options until we settled on the perfect diamond and ring. Originally, it was a 3 week timeline for the setting, but I requested if possible a week later to rush the ring because family was coming into town. I don't understand the 5 star reviews. JF Options does work by appointment only, but you definitely still have to "compete for attention"...or, I guess the level of attention you get is directly proportionate to the level of funds you wish to drop in this establishment. I brought my grandmother's ring in to be appraised and worked into a new ring, and was immediately made to feel as if I'd brought in a crap piece of jewelry that wasn't worth their time. I had to wait even though I had an appointment and was overlooked while other customers came into the store - I guess their later appointment times took precedent over mine somehow. During my two visits, I asked questions that ANY person new to the world of jewelry appraisal and design would ask and was constantly made to feel that I was being unreasonable for asking anything at all. By the way, the only reason I went back for a second visit was to pick up my engagement ring which was having "sizing beads" added. The sizing beads were uncomfortable and sort of scratched/squeezed my finger as I tried it on the first time - so, naturally, the ring was immediately snatched from me to be buffed down by the guy down the hall who'd soldered the beads in to begin with...they never sized me and even after it'd been buffed down some, it still hurt, but I didn't feel comfortable asking for any more revisions. I decided to have the diamond from my grandmother's ring removed from the setting so that we could really see the whole thing and find out the weight and such. When the diamond came out of the ring, the owner spoke negatively of it's quality and even had the nerve to take it back down to the appraiser to have him knock it down a notch in color and clarity from the original appraisal. Seriously?? What a jerk! I ended up taking my business elsewhere for the design of my dream ring and am so happy I did! 100% turn around from this horrible experience. If you're a regular person who has regular person amounts of money and wants to be treated with respect no matter what kind of budget you have, DO NOT GO TO JF OPTIONS. read more

I recently inherited some jewelery from my father's estate, and needed an expert to help me sort the trash from the treasure. Thanks to the extremely helpful and knowledgeable staff at JF, I now have a better understanding of the value of the collection. They also steered me in the correct direction when my original appointment was for an appraisal - to a valuation instead. They work with a gemologist across the hallway, who is an expert both in valuation and appraisal. Had never had a jewelry appraisal before so relied on a friend's recommendation for JF Options. They work by appointment only at the Denver Merchandise Mart so you're never competing for attention. For a very reasonable flat fee Barry and Todd first went through a lifetime collection to sort out real gems and precious metals, determined there were 7 pieces worth a full appraisal for insurance purposes, and saved me considerable fees in that initial sort. Those 7 special pieces were then painstakingly appraised by their partner-appraiser, American Gem Registry, which weighed, gauged to industry and resale standards, fully documented with color photos and enlargements, and a 16-page illustrated document accompanied the returned items. The original ball-park estimate for the 7 items was $10,000. The final replacement value came in at $14,650.00. Meanwhile Todd & Barry took my beloved Italian wedding band which had sat on the shelf since my divorce, found a gorgeous flowerette of tiny gold-mounted diamonds from a single earring from my deceased aunt, and for $100 fashioned an exquisite ring that celebrates many wonderful times with my ex along with memories of my aunt. I'm thrilled! I have never bought jewelry for myself, but if I did, this is where I would shop. There's hardly an item in their showcases I wouldn't choose over a Tiffany or other designer. I initially spoke to Becky over the phone about making a appointment for a appraisal on my Moms old wedding set. That short conversation alone was all I needed to know I've chosen the right place and sure enough, I was right. That phonecall was indicative of the service - t'd be better to call it; the attention - I received. Not only did Becky (and her husband Barry) treat my request as importantly as I did, they treated this three piece appraisal realistically. Explained what I had in my possession, explained old paper work and explained the appraisal process to me. They could've thrown a number out, a dismissive half answer and sent me on my way like so many other appraisers had hoped to. In the end I didn't get a appraisal, I was able to walk away with confidence knowing what I had in my hand (both in terms of being able to read what amounted to hieroglyphics in previous appraisal documents and the sets weight/clarity/grade) so that when my Mom decides to get rid of them she'll be doing so with knowledge and confidence on her side. To be treated so well, to have taken up a good bit of their time and for them to not have just taken the easier deal I was expecting is really refreshing. Don't be dissuaded by having to make a appointment, don't be dissuaded by your lack of knowledge of the Merchandise Mart. I don't know when I'll be looking at jewelry for myself or having the need/want to have pieces appraised (I'm more of a scrap and send to the refinery type) but when that times come JF Options is the first and only place I will ring up and the first place I think you should too. read more

Becky and Barry were able to get a "sample" ring in from a Canadian designer in a couple days, where Trice Jewelers took almost 2 weeks! JF Options....where do I start.... They are damn good at what they do. We took my fiance's 106 year old heirloom engagement ring in to have it checked out etc. Barry found some issues and told us it needed some repairs before she could wear it again otherwise we would lose stones and/or the ring could break. He stated that he could not do what needed to be done in house but would rather send it out to get a second opinion on IF they could fix it. No go. The ring was so old that no one wanted to take the job. Barry suggested that we might want to consider making a replica so my fiancé could wear it on a daily basis without worrying if the ring would break or lose the stone. We agree.
