New to the Portland area and saw that this place had close to 5 stars. I've never been to a legitimate barber before, only saloons so I was expecting it to be more expensive. There was no one in line so I got served right as I walked in. Since I was told it was going to be $30 for my cut, I was expecting it to be good and I was also considering the inflation over the last two years so it's fair. Im also the kind of customer who just likes to enjoy the feeling of the haircut rather than being talked to so I appreciate Grace for providing me that service. She spent a considerable amount of time to make my hair detailed and proportionate and I first felt the blade of the old fashioned barber tool. She even lined up my eyebrows. Every guy knows the pain of moving to a new area and having to find a regular barber. I'm glad I found JG Barbers and Grace. If you're expecting the typical Portland barber experience ("free" liquor, man-cave atmosphere, $40 - $50 mediocre hair cut), then look else where. If you're looking for a high quality, precision hair cut at a great price ($20 for a regular cut, $25 for a skin fade), then this is the place to go. She only does walk-ins, but trust me, it is worth the wait. Grace asked me what I wanted and rather than explain it, I just showed her a picture of a hair cut I had a few months ago. She looked at it for a minute and simply said, "Okay, I got it." Her attention to detail is unparalleled and she spends the time making sure every thing is perfect. She works quickly but skillfully. The complimentary neck shave was a great and unexpected perk. This is one of the best haircuts I've ever had. Plus, Grace and her husband are really friendly - had a great conversation with the two of them (as well as the 2 regulars who were waiting to be seen). Walk in only. That being said, I walked in 30 min before close and got a great skin fade and complimentary neck shave. Grace takes her time and cleans as she goes so you don't have hair all over the place when you leave. Husband went in today for first haircut here. They took his number and said it was about 1.5 hour wait but they would call 10-15 minutes before they were ready for him. No problem, we went to go get lunch. They called about it 30 minutes later so it was great not to have to wait so long!! Husband had a pic and she cut his hair exactly how he likes it! My search for the perfect haircut ends here . I have tried everything - from chain no frills places to 50 dollar places with " free"beer . I have been recommended this place by one of my colleagues . Grace the owner does the haircut and does a great job . She does not have appointments and takes only walk ins . It was her first day of work after a long break and I walked in at 430 , an hour before closing . Despite 4 more people in waiting room and closing time approaching .. she took all the time she needed to do a great job on my hair . Being Japanese American, it's difficult to find a haircut place where the barber knows how to cut hair well for Asian men. I know this may seem a bit strange to mention, but this is a reality for minorities in a predominantly white neighborhood. So grateful! read more

I went to JG Barbers the other day because I always pass by it on my way home from work and read good things about the place. It is by far one of the best barbers I've been too! I had to wait a little bit because there were a couple people ahead of me but it was absolutely worth the wait!! Great barbershop! Most barbers I've been to try to cycle me in and out as fast as they can so they can take the next person's $20. Not here! They take pride in their work and make sure that you like the cut before they start cleaning up. I was very happy with the way my hair turned out.
