I would love to give these guys 5 starts but they messed up so badly. I brought my car in needing new front brakes and they got it done that day. I had to bring in my car the next day because one of my tires had almost fallen off due to the fact they only put on 2 of the 5 lug nuts. If I didn't bring my car back in as soon as I did this could have ended up much worse. This is truly as good as it gets. Girlfriend drove my car into our garage and my Subaru needed some body work done. Not wanting to go through insurance, I was able to work with them to keep my costs down. The day of the work, they picked up my car from my work, had the fender, bumper, and light done in 2 hours, then came and picked me up at the end of my shift!! The brakes on our car went out a few months ago, so I took our car to JH. They determined that the master cylinder had to be replaced, so they replaced it. The brakes worked well until this week, when they went out again. I took it to another repair shop, and they determined that the master cylinder that JH installed a few months ago had to be replaced again, due to brake fluid leak. This second repair shop said that the master cylinder that JH installed a few months ago was purchased from an auto parts store, and was not the quality that they recommend to have installed. They installed a better quality master cylinder, and my car's brakes work well again. If you get your car repaired at JH, I'd recommend asking them what quality of parts they use. read more

I just moved right down the road from this place and couldn't be happier. I showed up here late on a Saturday afternoon with a screw in my tire. Technically they are only open by appointment on Saturdays, and the screw in my tire wasn't anything important as it was still holding air, but the two guys who were there were more than happy to take the screw out and plug the hole for me. From talking to the mechanic I know they are a garage I will be able to trust to do a good job and not screw me over. If you are a summit county resident I wouldn't go anywhere else! read more

VERY VERY HONEST! Our car stalled out traveling up skiing. We pulled into JH Mountain Auto and although they were very busy, they got us in and on the slopes on time. We thought it was a fuel pump issue and after they diagnosed it the pump was fine. They did a full diagnosis, tightened up a loose wire, made a couple of adjustments, and we were good to go. They could have easily charged me for a $1200 fuel pump and we left for a minor diagnosis charge. Thank you Camil! read more

Scott (manager) and his JH team are total lifesavers and I am their newest fan and champion. We live in Glenwood and had friends coming to visit our kids - a 17 year old and a 12 year old coming alone - and their car broke down on vail pass. Their car was towed to Silverthorne to the JH Mountain Auto Services. I drove down and met these kids there. The JH team was clearly busy, it was a Friday night, but Scott managed to not only fix their car in a quick turnaround despite being completely full, (they got it done by Saturday afternoon - all other places told us Thursday at best) but also found them a discounted part given their situation. Scott even followed up with me the next day, as the kids guardian, to make sure all was working and all right. I travel this I-70 corridor often and not only would JH be my emergency go-to, I will now make arrangements to have them be my official mechanic whenever the situation is possible. Terrible customer service. If you are having work done on your car that is lasting more than a day, I recommend going to another mechanic in the area. I had my timing belt replaced here, and I was originally told the service would take a week. The owner said he would call me on Friday to update me on the progress. Friday came and went, and when I called on Monday I was told that the part was never ordered and that they would call me the following Friday. This happened 3 times (yes, my service was extended to 3 weeks from the original one week estimation), where I was given a day that they would call for me to pick up my car and then they would never call. I understand the length, but the issue is that they would never call to tell me the timeline was extended. On the second Monday that I called, I was told that "If I keep calling every day like this, they wouldn't ever be able to get the work done," which is condescending an unnessecary and completely untrue. The only time I called was when they missed their self-appointed deadline of calling me. Week 3, they call me on Friday morning to pick up my car. On the phone I ask if they also changed my snow tires, as I had asked a week ago. He told me yes. I drive to JH and when I walk in, they ask if I can wait an hour because they forgot to change my tires. I tell them no because I have a meeting in 30 minutes. The best customer service I receive during the whole experience is when they finally drop my car off at my office 4 hours later. If you are getting your oil changed, fine, go here if you must. But if you are looking for a mechanic that remembers the deadlines he sets for himself and actually communicates to you when plans change, don't go here. They are terrible. read more

I've been going there ever since and love how they will make sure you get the best deal/price on your auto work. so many positive reviews why did they have to be so bad! a friends subaru was towed here with an engine failure. the shop quoted $5500 and 3-4 weeks to repair. i called subaru, "book time" to replace the engine.... 6.7hours. engine cost... $3420... hmmm here's the best part.. the engine was under warranty with a shop in denver, and these guys offered to participate and honor that warranty...... as long as the other shop paid $5500 to them... when my friend told them it would be cheaper, and much faster, to have the vehicle towed to denver for repairs at the original shop...... these guys said they wouldn't let the vehicle leave. not only would they not let it leave, they said we owed them $300 in "diagnosis" ... they also said we owed $50/day in storage for the 3 days it had been there. The diagnosis they came up with was to replace the Crank Pulley (Harmonic Damper) and said that cost the $300, EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE WRONG, IT ACTUALLY NEEDED AN ENGINE!!!! BEST YET, we go to pick up the car, they said we are responsible for the freight the paid to ship the Harmonic Damper that we don't need, that they charged $300 to in improperly diagnose. this is fraud. the other shop swapped the engine in 2 days and had me on the road. these guys are quite literally ..... highway robbery. i guess they stay in business with the tourism and frequent tows from the mountain passes. if taking advantage of honest consumers keeps them in business lets help shut them down. read more

We rented a car at the Denver airport and felt the brakes going out as we descended from Loveland Pass on I70. It was terrifying to feel the shaking of the brakes and smell burning tires. We pulled off at Silverthorne only to discover the dealerships and mechanics all seem to close at noon on Saturdays in August (it was about 2:30 pm). Matt Solo answered the phone at JH Mountain Auto Services and said he was closed, but would be happy to help us. He took in the car, coordinated with the rental company, replaced the tire rotors and brake pads, and had us back on the highway within two hours. Matt seriously saved our vacation. I don't know what we would have done if he had not been so willing to work late to help us. We would have spent hours waiting for the rental company to figure out a fix. Don't waist your time. This shop doesn't know the meaning of customer service. Rude and Lazy. Estimated 1.15 hrs to repair my starter and 4 days later they are finally finished. No apology, lack of communication in the process. The shop said it was finished, "come and get it" I drove 60 miles to pick up the vehicle and they were not even finished. The customer service is so terrible! They were more interested in payment from my warranty company then servicing the customer. Review on driver Warren and dispatch person: I called at 6:30pm, I called JH Mountain Auto Service to help me get into my car (deadlock) and spoke to Warren. He was pretty rude and short on the phone when I simply asked, "Do you know how to get inside my type of vehicle?" He raised his voice and said, "YES." Then he gets here and I'm explaining the best way to do the job and get in (because this has happened with my vehicle a few times). Then when he got here, he was super rude, sarcastic and condescending while trying to get in. He was here 3 minutes when I finally said, "What's your problem?" He said, "I'm out of here!!!" and started ripping his stuff out of the car to leave and said, "GIVE ME MY FLASHLIGHT, I'M DONE!!!" I can't believe this guy has a job. So rude. He could've just done the job, took my money and been done in 10 minutes... Then when I called dispatch to complain, they weren't even apologetic. They were rude too. Had a simple brake pad change done. Noticed an unusual noise upon leaving the shop, but did not / would not have thought that the shop would have caused anything. I discovered hours later that the lug nuts on the tires that were worked on were extremely loose. I do not live in the area, and could not take my car in for a check up. Upon calling the shop during their next open hours, they were unapologetic, and were unwilling to accept any responsibility. Reading reviews, this is not the first time this has happened to a customer from this shop. If you do use them, double check their work before leaving! read more

My husband and I moved to Summit County last year and began searching for a mechanic to look after our two vehicles. We have both experienced multiple bad experiences at JH Mountain Auto, and neither of us will recommend taking your vehicle here. Problems started with a promised 30 minute oil change turned into several hours, with no phone call to update us of the delay. Once I was scheduled to retrieve my car after hours, but when I arrived it was locked behind their fence. I also took my car in for an oil change and for them to asses why my headlight kept burning out, this ended up costing $187 due to the $100 diagnostic fee they charged. They only thing they did for my headlight was replace it and not tell me why it was burning out frequently. The final straw was when I tried to change my oil after having it changed there over the winter (I like changing my own oil, but not in the snow!) The drain plug was on so tight that I couldn't unscrew it. I called down to ask if they would loosen it slightly for me, since they were the ones that put it on so tight, and they said they would loosen it for $20. All of the services we have received there have been on the expensive end, and it feels like they nickel and dime you for everything. NOT RECOMMENDED! read more

My daughter and I discovered our windshield washer wasn't working while approaching the Eisenhower Tunnel--plenty of slush hitting the windows. It was truly a safety issue. We made it down to Silverthorne to JH Mountain Auto Services. Everyone was great! The shop was really busy, but they managed to squeeze us in once they realized we were on a cross-country trip and couldn't make an appointment. The problem turned out to be only a fuse, but if they were out to take advantage they could have sold me a whole new pump or motor. I think these guys are honest. The shop is also veteran-owned which is also a huge plus in my book. I can't recommend them enough. They didn't seem like they were just running a shop--they were truly there to help. read more

Ridiculous diagnostic fee of over $100.00!! Went in for an oil change and came out with a $215.00 bill. They supposedly did a multi-point inspection. 2 days after my son left, another mechanic found there was no anti-freeze in the car. JH said it appeared the car was leaking power steering fluid. Not true. Rip-off beware! Try High Country instead, at least they know what they're doing. read more

My sons transmission went out in the parking lot at Keystone he looked this shop up, read the reviews decided to get it towed to the shop. $150 to go 8 miles and then the next day said they couldn't get to even look at it for a week,and if we didn't get it out,they were going to charge us a fee to have it parked in their lot. The owner was a real prick if you're a skier and have a car problem don't take it to this place. read more

Terrible place, misdiagnosed my car, it took a week longer than I was told. And even after they "fixed" it, I had to take it somewhere else for the same problem a few days later. They refused to offer any compensation even refusing to speak with the dealership, who was willing to explain that it was the same problem they had attempted to fix. A minor fender bender caused my "Check Engine" light to turn on, so I went to JH Auto to have them run diagnostics to ensure that there was nothing seriously wrong with my car. They were for service very accommodating, getting taking my car in on a busy Sunday morning. After running their diagnostic tests, they told that a sensor malfunction was causing inconsistent readings in my throttle control. They told me that the could do a repair, however, the parts would have to be ordered from an off site wholesaler and the total repair cost would run me close to $400. My personal road experience with the car after the accident made me think that whatever errors they were receiving were inconsistent with the actual function of the vehicle. Because of that, combined with a time constraint, I decided to decline any repairs and take my car to my local dealership. The next day I brought my car to the dealership, they ran the same tests using the error codes the JH Auto provided to me, plus pulling their own codes from the engine computer to ensure every base was covered. The dealer informed me that there was no issue with any of my engine sensors and that my car was functioning properly; they even waived the cost for the tests. With that said, I can't help but think that JH Auto was trying to use me to turn a quick buck on unnecessary repairs for my vehicle. The manager, or owner (unsure of his actual title), of JH Auto seemed to be untrustworthy with his information, only acting in a way to help his shop turn a profit. They were very helpful getting my car in quickly, however, I caution any potential customs to use JH Auto for any major repairs. Go to a more reputable dealership or auto shop to ensure that your car is taken care of properly. read more

They were amazing. My transmission started to go out just east of the Eisenhower tunnel. Costed in to their shop in Silverthorne and that was a blessing. Even though they were swamped, the got the car running so I could get back to Denver at the end of our weekend in Breck. Almost willing to drive up there from Denver to have my car serviced. A few things. I had a cv axle replaced because of a ripped boot, while getting this fixed they also said the lower ball joint needed replacing. Well $650 and a year later I was replacing both parts again because the cv boot was hard as a rock and ripped again, and the lower ball joint was completely trashed. Also had some transmission work done there after they completed certain transfer case lights no longer worked when they did before going in. After letting them know this they neither offered to fix their screw up nor go back in to see why. After looking myself I noticed one of the light bulbs on the console was broken and electric taped back in. While checking this I noticed my linkage bushing was also broken, (was it like that before?) if so why not say so and replace. Also noticed the transfer shift cable was electric taped into place underneath the vehicle. WOW!!! and I thought duct tape fixed everything. I would think twice before going here and if you did have issues afterwards contact the BBB. read more
