This park sits at a confluence of rivers. It appears that the main activities are camping and…read moreboating. On the hot summer day that I visited the still air and ample insects, made it a bit of a rough experience. A short walk yielded some decent views, but it was not my favorite park. It appeared to me that large part of the attraction based on the signage that was displayed around the park was that this is a good place for nighttime observations due to limited artificial light in the area. That sounds nice. The place does require a Virginia parking pass or fee.

They also have snacks and coffee as you walk in. I wish I remembered the Rangers name working the VC. She was awesome. They had some weather boards and N.A.S.A. items available, I had to ask why? Well it seems this park is so far out (And it sure is!), that astronomers come to look at the stars. There is a very large yard where hundreds of people could set up and look into the skies. I was so excited to hear that. I want to do that too! She said they also rent telescopes at the VC.! Too cool. She said they also get a lot of serious Big Foot hunters out there as well due to the sightings that have been announced. Well I was good and reeled in by that point. I bought a couple things for the family and headed into the "reptile room" because I forgot what they called it. They had about 4 snakes and a couple turtles in there. Really nice with geat animal decor on the walls as well. The Ranger suggested a hiking trail that over looks Buggs Island and 360 view of tje Staunton River. I saw more than 10 white herons. They always seem to be just out of camera shot though! LOL. I tried. They have a pool with water slides and a playground. Campground, picnic area right on the water. Very nice!!! I saw 3 other cars. It's literally way out there. :) Oh! One of the things I bought was a Big Foot Mood Ring! I love it! I know I posted a lot of pictures :)

It's really unfortunate because this site could bring in out of towners who will in turn spend money in the community. We love the outdoors and visit different hiking spots weekly. Shallow Ford barely ranked 3 stars. In addition, they only have 3 campsites that have a blocked view of the river. Do not recommend.

Inside Dan Daniel Park you will find soccer fields,…read moresoftball fields, a skate park, a playground for the young tikes, picnic shelters for rent, the Veterans Memorial of Danville, a stretch of the Danville Riverwalk Trail and also you will find the baseball stadium for Danville's minor league baseball team the Danville Braves. The stretch of the Riverwalk Trail is really cool here. The nice paved path runs along the banks of the Dan River where you can take nice stroll on foot or by bike, the have a bike share station where you can rent a bike to ride by downloading an app on your smartphone and by following a few instructions on the app you'll be 2 wheelin' it down by the river in a jiffy. They also allow horseback riding on the Riverwalk Trail. This is a really nice oark to check out.

I stayed on the North park so my review is…read morebased off the North (never visited to the South spots). -full site hook ups (30/50 and additional outlets for extension cords/heated hoses at the pedestal) -water stub up is already heat traced -amazing wifi (streaming services never lagged) -great water pressure (except when the whole park decides to flush tanks at the same time) -Owner/manager is very responsive to concerns/needs -spacious spots (some even have double vehicle parking) -easy to back into spots and overall easy to navigate around areas. -concrete slabs for steps at all spots -park is close to town and close to main road but is quiet and secluded -security cameras and key pad for gates are a huge peace of mind bonus 10/10 recommend staying here

There were a couple of bridges across the river. Some rocky waters make for interesting viewing. Upon stepping off the path to a sandy shore, I was greeted by a snake that I could not immediately identify but which thankfully decided to leave on its own. Having driven through the Danville area once before and missed the riverfront, I wish I'd had the chance to pull over for a bit. It's not quite as impressive as Richmond's waterfront, but it's a nice area.

The memorial is a great tribute to remember the men and women from the local Danville area who lost their lives in our Nation's wars from the American Revolution to current times. There is a 7ft tall x 158ft long black granite memorial wall with each soldiers name engraved along with the phrase "Freedom Is Not Free". There is also a circular brick Memorial Walkway with the names of Veterans on each brick.
