I needed a stellar image that spoke to my heart, was large enough to fill a huge display wall, and I really don't think I'd get skilled enough to shoot something I could live with. I happened upon this fine-arts photographer, Jill Sanders, whose gallery graces our own lively Riviera Village. With Jill's expert eye, we found one of her Hawaiian panoramic images. As soon as I saw the image, I just knew. I saw our getaway wedding location on Maui. I saw the atolls we kayaker to from a side of Oahu (Ijust don'tremember which dive/kayak shop we used), saw my beach paradise. I saw home. I saw love. Anyway, the landscape image is 78in x 36in. While Gallery JS just opened a few months ago, it adds a nice touch of class to the area. The gallery is run by two artists, Jill Sanders and Joshua Serafin and their work is beautiful and complimentary to each other. Jill is a photographer who has an amazing eye and Josh has some truly unique work with oil paint on glass. While the overall theme tends to be centered around the ocean (perfect for our Beach area), there's a lot more to see and every time I pass by there are new pieces up. One of my favorite things about going to Gallery JS is that when you walk in you are made to feel welcome which is the opposite of how I feel when I go into many galleries. Once you know they are happy to see you, you can revel in the talent of Jill Sanders. There are many great photographers out there these days, but Jill's eye sets her apart. I have several of her pieces in my home and am always thinking about where I might fit another. We have a large size of Yosemite in our living room that makes me feel as though I am there every time I walk in the room. OMG! The art here if fantastic! The two artists (Jill Sanders and Josh Serafin) have two different amazing takes on nature. Sander's photography illustrates the true beauty nature has to offer which people rarely notice. Serafin uses acrylics in scenes of ocean and music. Both the artist's art works work in perfect harmony. When I went in, Sanders was working and explained to me the location of each of her photographs. It was so cool to meet the artist! I have seen a great number of Jill Saunder's captures. What intrigues me about her work is that she captures what for a majority of photographers and painters is the most elusive quality of pictorial representation: That is the awareness and control of all the subtleties of excellent composition. That is a quality and talent so rare that some gallery owners have never heard a client consider that most important of artistic achievements as a chief factor in choosing a canvas or photo. Yet it is that quality which gives a depiction its feel, and if it is very well done, that feel approaches the timeless. Jill somehow has developed a unique consistency of imbuing that feel in her work, whether the viewer consciously sees it or not. It is, I sense, a natural outcome of her nature, her particularly encompassing eye, which appears to perceive in many more dimensions at once than that of most people, and even of most artists, if you ask me. I believe that I have never seen one of her works which did not take me in with not only the natural beauty of the scene, but of the considerable adventure of studying every other aspect of the presentation, as if it was fine music or architecture as well, masquerading as an object on a wall. If you are the kind of person who can consciously appreciate depth of detail across a spectrum of aspects and qualities, Jill Sanders' extraordinary work with the interplay of light and form is what I would recommend to you. read more
