I have been going to Jim for the past year, and until now I have always been extremely pleased with both his service and the quality of his work. Every appointment had been consistent, professional, and exactly what I asked for. Yesterday, I went in for what I expected to be a routine visit: a root touch-up, soft highlights around my face, and a haircut. When I arrived, Jim was finishing up with another client, and another customer walked in for a haircut. For the first time since becoming his client, Jim mentioned that his WIFE would be applying my root color. Unfortunately, the appointment quickly went wrong. After my hair was washed, my roots were a brassy reddish-orange color ("hot roots"). Jim attempted to correct it by applying a darker color to my roots and brushing it throughout the rest of my hair. I originally came in for a dark brown root touch-up with soft highlights, but I left with a cherry-red hue and roots that were lighter than the rest of my hair. I truly believe this situation would not have happened if his WIFE had not applied my color. What's most disappointing is that despite the outcome, I was still charged full price for the service. I'm especially saddened because I had trusted Jim with my hair for the past year and had always had positive experiences before this appointment. read more

Very quaint and convenient spot for a walk-in haircut. Jim has trimmed up my mermaid long hair very nicely and at another occasion he helped trim my one-year old son's hair as well (first haircut for the little guy). This is a small hair salon located next to a restaraunt. It's very cozy inside and Jim welcomed me in a friendly way. I just had him cut my hair by a few inches. He washed my hair and then asked me how long I wanted to cut it and after that, he proceeded to do whatever he wanted. He thinned out my hair when I didn't ask him to and he was a bit harsh with my hair. Lastly, he straightened my hair. I think it was a pretty good job overall but there was definitely a communication barrier (he is Korean I believe). read more

I recently moved to Scottsdale from Hawaii. For those of you who are not familiar with Hawaii. Hawaii is a diversed state. Almost all the salons that you go to, there's always someone that knows how to cut asian hair. I am a licensed hairdresser, and also half-Korean. I've been hesistant into finding a new stylist that understands asian hair/hairstyles. (Scottsdale isn't really a diversed area)My dear friend had suggested that I try Jim Jeon in Chandler. I told him exactly what I wanted, which was shoulder length with lots of layers and side swept bangs. I also told him to texturize couple places that I felt was too heavy, and he did exactly that! I went home and styled it, and everything fell into place! The drive is so worth it! I will be definitely go back. read more

I went into this shop a few days ago because they're one of the few places that do a digital perm. They're also only a few miles down from my work so they're super convenient. Upon reading further reviews I became a little nervous. I arrived today (Saturday) and he immediately started working on my hair. I got nervous and asked if he needed a reference picture and he politely smiled and nodded. So I showed him the picture and he just glances at it and nods again and continues to work on my hair. While he worked on my hair the English speaking worker talked to me about my hair and mentioned he used to do hair in LA. So I figure that's why he doesn't use photos. Although he's nice about it, it's probably insulting and he probably knows what looks best on people. My hair came out great. He seemed more upset about how the curls came out tighter than I wanted than I did. He showed me how to style my hair and then threw in free styling wax (normally $20 and I was about to go buy my own) he said he threw it in because my hair was so fragile it was going to be frizzier than normal and he seemed apologetic even. I wasn't surprised about any of this because I did my research and I know that I've done a number on my hair. He was really kind about telling me I had thinner hair due to previous damage, which is nice because most salons act almost mad at me for it. TL;DR -He did a great job -Super nice -When it wasn't exactly how I had showed him; I didn't care but he did so he gave me free product to help heal my hair and aid the curl -they brought me tea while the work was being done - he's a professional, don't bring in pictures and expect the best response or that exact hair cut. Professionals do what will be ideal for your hair and features. Not what some model can pull off. read more

I joined yelp to write my review and warn consumers about this place! Go if you're a girl and you want a mullet.... One star: my SO came here several months ago, and got a decent haircut here. We recently moved here from LA, where there are lots of Asian salons, so we were glad to find one here through Yelp. Jim was very, very quick. The whole experience lasted about 20 minutes. Since he did a decent job with the SO, I went to the salon two weeks ago to get my haircut. I called in advance to ask when a good time would be since I had the whole day open. I was advised to come in one hour later. Note: only the woman that works there speaks English, Jim speaks very very little English. I show up at the appointment, and immediately see that there is another female getting her roots chemically straightened. Why did he say to come in an hour when he's in the middle of another appointment?!? Suspicions arise... The woman washes my hair thoroughly. I enjoyed it until her friend showed up out of nowhere and the two began speaking loudly in Korean. I am Asian, but not Korean. It got a little uncomfortable. She sets me in a chair, and I sit there with wet, drippy hair for almost twenty minutes. The woman hands me a style magazine for women with digital perms to look at even though I already told her I was there for a haircut. Eventually Jim comes over. By this time, the woman, which speaks basic English, is gone and nowhere to be seen. I explain that I am looking for a short hair cut, which is a big change from my long hair. He quickly grabs a xeroxed copy of Jessica Alba with a layered bob chin length and points at that style. He says something about layers. I say okay, make me look good, not too much layers. I close my eyes - bad move, but habit since my mom is a hairdresser and I'm used to relaxing. I trust hairdressers. Maybe that was my mistake. Next thing I know, I have a horrendous mullet on top of my head. It looks like a dog chewed on my ends, and everything is uneven. The top (crown) portion of the head is definitely shorter than the bottom. He finishes off his creation by saying, do you know hair wax... then scrunches hair wax in really, really hard. It was horrible!!!! I have never had such a bad haircut, and I've gone to beauty schools before! It took him all of 10 mins, max 15 minutes to do all that damage. I paid because I could not wait to get out, walked out, and drove home, thinking that I was too sensitive. I got home, took a look at the damage that was done, and promptly called Toni + Guy at San Tan Village. In 30 mins, I was at Toni + Guy. Thank goodness Ashley fixed my mullet!!!! Be careful about Jim Jeon Salon! We aren't going back again :( read more

5 min wash hair, 5 min cut hair, and then 5 min blow dry. And he charged me $35. It wasn't too bad, but later I had to trim some areas he ignored but obviously longer than other hairs. I got a digital perm 11 days ago, and I liked it. I still liked the one I got in Taiwan more, but who can beat asian countries when it comes to asian hair? The few hours after the perm I noticed my hair was dryer and curlier than when it first came out in Taiwan, but that could be from the styling lotion they used in Taiwan. After I washed my hair and used conditioner the curls loosened up and I liked it a lot more. It did take a few washes for the chemical smell to wash out. The curls started higher than I expected (rather than just from right above my ear), so I did use some hairpins. I don't mind, because the curls will stay in longer when my hair grows out. In general, I really like the look now. If you blow dry it right, you don't need to do anything else to maintain it. I definitely wouldn't need to use a curling iron over it. Jim and his wife are very nice and attentive to what needs to be done. It took a little less than 2 hours. The price was $120 ( I think they may have recently raised it). However, the lowest price I've heard of in New York is $150. It's usually around $200 and up there. I don't know about CA. read more

I went back to get cut & color (coating) 3 times since my last review. I still like the cut but the color washes out for at least 2 weeks. If you use a darker hair color, don't wear anything light color clothing before you completely dry your hair. He charges between $70-80 for color & cut. read more
