A few weeks back, we needed to change the locks on our Preschool. Mind you we have over 15 doors and gates that needed to be re-keyed on the Preschool building. Ian arrived on time, I walked him through the doors and gates to show him what we needed changed. We also needed new keys and new master keys to accommodate the changes. In a few hours, Ian was done. We know how much work it was as it was an in service day and all the teachers were there for CPR training and preparing their classrooms for our Summer classes. The moment I closed my car door, I knew I had made a mistake. After a moment of panic, I jumped in Yelp and looked for a car locksmith. Most of the locations were closed but SoCal Locksmith was open. I called and within 10 minutes my door was unlocked!! He was very professional and kind. He worked quickly. The price was pretty steep($60) but other locations were charging me $95 and above. Not a complex lock, but a secure one that would be difficult to resolve without a trained locksmith. I don't know comps (comparable) rates by others, but I'd say for a housecall where he has to take time to travel back and forth, plus his professional tools and expertise, it sounded fair enough. Be sure to call Alex. Confirm the details. Provide a photo of the lock itself so he knows what brand or style and can give you the right estimate. If you're in a time crunch or have limitations related to urgency of getting the lock unlocked, be clear and discuss his availability and a realistic arrival time. He has other clients/projects, so there could be miscommunication interpretation delays of where you fall into his schedule that day. I interpreted "in 45 mins" as an ETA (estimated time of arrival) for a job in the South Bay Beach Cities area, but it ended up being closer to 2 hours or so due to his other jobs. So, that was my only minor issue I'd fair warn myself to temper expectations or clarify with him if I ever needed this service. When he arrived, it took him I'd challenge to say less than 3 minutes to pick the lock and unlock the keyed entry without any problems. He does know what he's doing and did it quickly. He was a nice service provider. My testimony review is an approved referral that I'd recommend Alex as a locksmith.

The tech was about 30 mins later than I was told he would be there and the original price I was given tripled after the 10-15 mins of work was done. In short, I think I was dealing with a "rogue" employee, but unfortunately it was a terrible experience. Reported to business owner and he was understanding of the situation and responsive, but I hope this isn't a reflection of their core team.
