I came to Jim n Nick's tonight at 6:35pm. I don't think I'll be back atleast not through the drive thru. This grey haired woman with glasses was working the drive thru. AMBER is her name, shown on my receipt. She wears a long low ponytail. She was so so so sooo rude it's beyond crazy for no reason. I ordered my food and she just had an attitude I could tell. I drove home and had the wrong order, was not surprised at all. Girl on the phone was sweet and told me to come back to get it replaced. I came back and again old woman had an attitude cause she got MY order wrong and had to drive all the way back up there. Idk if she's racist or what but it's SAD. Nobody is forcing her to work there tf. She was miserable. I kindly gave her back the loaded potato. I wasn't going to eat it cause I didn't order it! And I wanted to show the manager that I didn't even touch it. When I handed it to her, she literally SNATCHED the tray out of my hand. Great brisket! That's pretty much what I get here every time. The bread is very addicting to say the least. I've had decent service every time I've went no matter if it's dine in or drive through at certain locations. I ordered a BBQ sandwich two weeks ago and when I bit into it I had a nasty discovery. There was a wad of a wet wax paper bunched up inside the sandwich. There was almost more wax paper that BBQ! I called and asked to speak to the manager, and he apologized and said he would mail me a $10 gift certificate to replace the wax paper sandwich. It's been about three weeks and I was mailed a gift card.... so I'll be giving the BBQ sandwich another try. read more

Every since I lived in Birmingham back in 2003-2007, I have loved Jim n Nicks. I am a fan of their bar-b-q, their sides, and of course the cheese biscuits. My favorite is their hot links. Their Mac n cheese is wonderful. In fact, I think I have mastered a copy cat recipe of their Mac n cheese that I created on my own. Send me a private message if interested. The reason for the 3 star review of this location is simply due to my visit yesterday, and their less than stellar handling of their peak lunch hour. The hostess was seemingly overwhelmed. Perfectly nice young lady, but perhaps untrained or not provided the right resources. It was not noon yet, and there were limited tables open. There were plenty at the bar area, but she could not seat us there because apparently they only had one server assigned to that area. This is when I ask the question to myself that I always ask when I see a restaurant short staffed. I understand call-outs etc. But did you not know you were going to be busy around noon? Our server was plenty nice and attentive. He kept our drinks and cheese biscuit basket full. Oddly, our first batch of biscuits were undercooked. First time I have experienced this at a Jim n Nicks. Future batches were fine. The food took WAY longer that normal for Jim n Nicks. I am sure I will be back when in the area. However, if I experience similar mismanagement, I'll take it off my list of locations to visit. read more

Our service was phenomenal and the food from start to finish was great! I love the taste of the Mac and cheese here and I'm a snob about that. It's different - almost like a variety of cheeses are used. The fish tastes fresh and is always hot. The cheese cornbread mini muffins are to die for! Oh my word! We have our favorite BBQ at home and seldom eat BBQ when we travel because we're generally disappointed. We were NOT disappointed!! My husband ordered the 2 lbs rib dinner and man oh man was there 2 lbs if not way more. The ribs were cooked to perfection! The greens were spot on! I ordered as my meal the appetizer wings. Very satisfied, not overly sauced. The cheese cornbread that they brought out was warm, moist and cheesy but a bit odd with the sweetened butter. Our table was a bit sticky but it may have been isolated because overall the place seemed relatively clean. The waiter was pleasant and kept our drinks full checking on us often. We arrived at the restaurant pretty hungry and sure they brought some nice warm cheese biscuits but after that everybody left and we waited 1 an hour for somebody to come and take our orders . Plus we got too stuffed to eat biscuits after 3-4 . Anyway after an hour my husband went to call waitress and finally after another 40 minutes our food arrived . We all were starving and here comes these cold average pulled pork with tiny sauce on it . Cold slaw was good . My potato Salad was missing and i asked for twice and finally arrived when my food was over . I asked the waitress for a bun and she looked at me like i asked her to see Naked and she told me " but you ordered meal !!! " . damn lady , its a freaking bread , go grab one !!! Anyway after that we waited another 20-25 minute to bring our credit cards back !!! 5 kids were angry , everybody was super mad and i can not believe we paid money for that sht show instead going to Chick fil a and have a better lunch ! read more

When at Jim N Nicks my family and I had a very pleasant experience. We were greeted immediately and sat down just as fast. Our waiter (Darren) was like a ninja, he refilled our drinks without seeing him do so at some times. He also stopped by frequently to make sure that we didn't need anything. All of food was served fast, hot and very tasteful. We would definitely recommend this restaurant for your dining experience and if you have a chance to get Darrren as your waiter then that's a bonus. read more

As Amanda S. says, this is definitely the best BBQ chain (that I've tried) in the South. Excellent friendly service. Fun clean atmosphere. Comfy booths. Alcoholic drink specials are fantastic if you're into tippling. Personally, I prefer the (metaphorically) bottomless glasses of sweet tea. As for the food, the Pitmaster's Plate sampler is always plenty of food for me and my wife to share. We usually get the ribs (spares were tasty, but think we'll try the baby backs next time in the hopes of less fat and gristle), the pulled pork (soft and tender), the brisket (solid) and the sausage (spicy, best of the bunch). Both the creamy cole slaw and the tangy potato salad are great, although I do wish portion sizes for those were just a tad larger. And speaking of portion sizes, like others have said, the cheesy muffins are wonderful, but they are also tiny and come only three to a basket. A couple of bites and they're history. Maybe bump up the per-basket quota to four muffins? Or make them a little larger? And how about including a ramikin of butter in the basket? (I think we've gotten butter a time or two at the West Nashville location.) Why only 4 stars? Neither of the sauces knocks my socks off. (The spicy habenero one does have a real kick though.) I far prefer the BBQ sauces at other joints around town such as Jack's, B&C Melrose, Martin's and even under-the-radar at Barbara's Home Cookin' in Franklin. Also, the meats are good, but not great. I'd rather have pulled pork at Martin's, brisket at Jack's, ribs at Rooster's, etc. If they upgraded their sauces (or maybe just offered another option) and were a bit more generous with the sides and the muffins, I could see bumping this up to 5 stars. Even as things stand now, I feel like Jim N Nicks is a can't miss choice for a great, affordable BBQ dinner for couples, families or small battalions of eaters. Surprisingly vegetarian friendly for a BBQ place! You will be relegated to the sides or a pimento cheese sandwich, but their sides are great! Unlike most BBQ places where your options will be potato salad and fries, mac and cheese if you're lucky, Jim and Nick's as a ton of other options like salad, fried green tomatoes, fresh seasonal fruit, even creamed spinach. Their side salads are really good quality and even include almonds (make sure you ask for no bacon) and their dressings seem to be homemade. Their mac and cheese is also deliciooooous. I am sort of bummed they don't do a "sides plate" like Logans and plenty of other BBQ places where you get some cost concession for only getting sides, instead you're going to be ordering everything a la carte. Only reason I am taking off a star, otherwise service is always friendly and I've been told the meat is good too! :) And try the lemonade! It's the real and has refills! read more

oh mama. i've found my favorite barbecue chain in the south. the jnn bar-b-q plate is where it's at:: your choice of meat (this girl went with the pulled pork) and two scratch-made trimmings (correct answer:: potato salad and cinnamon apples) for $11.99. this also includes bottomless baskets of their sweet-yet-salty cheese "biscuits", which are more like sweet-yet-salty crack muffins. the pork is so tender and juicy and is topped with delicious pickle slices. the potato salad was chilled, yellow (ALWAYS a good sign), and tangy. the cinnamon apples blew a certain chain that started in nashville's* cinnamon apples out of the water. seriously, melt-in-your-mouth goodness. not overly sweet (as food and drink tend to get, south of the mason-dixon). speaking of sweet, their sweet tea is also not overly sweet, and actually quite pleasant on the palate. just another place to be added to my "food fantasies" list..sigh. -- *i'll give you a hint. it rhymes with smacker carol. read more

Yes, it is a chain BBQ restaurant, and it kind of goes against the mold of your local hole in the wall joint that aficionados praise. The Great: - Cheesy Corn Muffins (dangerously good, can't stop eating them) - Sides (their sides are some of the best I've eaten anywhere, Mac & Cheese A++) - Lemonade (freshly squeezed) - Habanero Sauce - Pulled Pork ** (see the disclaimer below) - Chicken Tenders (surprisingly delicious for a BBQ restaurant) The Disclaimer: - The only reason I don't give the place 5 stars is that the BBQ pork can be hit or miss for me. One thing the boyfriend and I really miss about the south is BBQ, so we were super happy to stop in here on our quick trip to Nashville. While this was a good meal, it wasn't a great one. Let's break it down. Arrival: Two ladies at the host stand, super friendly, bantered a bit before being seated on the patio as requested. Service: Waiter was super friendly, but failed to communicate/notice a few things. My drink apparently takes a loooong time to make, which would have been nice to know when I ordered it. While I asked for napkins when our app arrived, he just brought us square cocktail ones, and someone didn't realize that we didn't have silverware until our entrees arrived and we asked for it. Apparently it should have been set when we were seated, but it wasn't. Also could have been more on top of water refills. Drinks: Excellent. The waiter made a good bourbon recommendation to the boyfriend, and my cocktail -- the Peachy Keen -- was amazing. Seriously, that was a damn good cocktail and worth the wait (something about minced peaches?). However, I can't say how much alcohol was actually in it, since, being a major lightweight, I didn't taste or feel anything, which is kind of surprising. Apps: Cheesy muffins. O. M. G. Just...give me all the cheesy muffins, and it'll be fine. Deviled eggs were also excellent, with a little extra mustard that gave them a little something without going crazy. Sides: Pretty darn good. Onion rings ($2 upcharge) needed some salt, but were hot, crispy, and not at all greasy. The boyfriend enjoyed the collards and coleslaw. Meat: Eh. The waiter recommended the brisket over the pulled pork, so I went with it. For $17, I expected a pretty generous portion, but, uh, not so much. Literally. As others have noted, it was served kind of lukewarm, which would have been nice to know ahead of time. The waiter assured my boyfriend that the spareribs (which he ordered especially for the cartilage) were smoked for 24 hours, started in the morning and not served until the following afternoon. Having eaten them, I highly doubt that. The cartilage wasn't at all soft, which, after that long, it should have been, and overall it seemed like they needed MORE time. Kind of weird. Sauces: The sauce on my brisket had a bit of a kick to it, and even the original sauce on the table had too much pep for my tame palate. The boyfriend asked for the white Carolina sauce, and that had so much pepper in it, I thought my throat would explode. Disappointing. So overall, while I enjoyed a lot of this meal, the meat especially didn't quite measure up to what I was hoping for. However, they are doing a great job with sides and drinks, which is not always the case for these joints. I'd go back, but order different meat. read more

Average entree is about 30% more than you would pay at a normal joint and the service can be a bit crappy depending on who you get. Simply put, this was the best meal and best service I've had in years. If you are searching Yelp for amazing Bar-B-Q, you've found the place to go. Our waitress, Haylee, was exceptional and was one step ahead of us the entire time.
