It was a bit busy so we expected a slight delay on drinks/food, but our server kept checking on us every few minutes and kept our drinks full. The atmosphere/design is very unique and offers great talking points for the table. You can look around and always find something new you haven't seen before. For food, I got the French dip, my husband got the fried catfish, and mom got the smash burger. Food was EXCELLENT. The au jus from the French dip was not overly salty as I've had in the past, and it was the perfect amount for the sandwich. Not like other places that will either give you a big tub of au jus or ever a small saucer cup. After lunch, we walked around as they have a shopping area inside with soaps, handmade pottery/kitchenware, and local vendor products such as hatch chile cream cheese and pickled vegetables. Price was very favorable too and didn't seem to be overly priced where the business/vendor up charges significantly to make a huge profit. Definitely worth stopping by even if you only have time for Togo coffee, a snack, of just to shop around!

The hardest part was choosing a drink from the aptly named, southern inspired menu. Should I have the Hell in a Handbasket, Mama's Switch, or a That'll do Pig? You can't go wrong. Sized were much larger than expected and priced far below similar type restaurants we have patronized in larger towns. For dinner, I had the filet, medium rare, and it was perfectly seasoned and cooked. That shouldn't make a restaurant stand out, but based on recent experiences, it was a delight. Dessert was a hot bread pudding accompanied by vanilla ice cream. Superb. Stop by this gem of a place if you are in the area. Lots of cute shops nearby, too.

The restaurant has several dining rooms which gives it an intimate vibe. Although the restaurant was very busy, we were provided with bread and drink promptly and our order was taken. The Buffalo Chicken dip was amazing both my wife and I loved. For our main course we both had the Lobster Tail Alfredo which was excellent. Our server recommended Our Dog Blue wine with the meal based on our preference for sweet wine, it was an excellent pairing. Through out the meal we were tended to several times. We drove an hour and 45 mins to get there. They wanted us to eat in room that was over 85 degrees!! This was our first time at this restaurant and first impressions was pretty horrible based on the prices they want to charge. the furniture in the waiting room looked like it came out of a frat house! Stained and just nasty looking. The smell when you walked in was extremely unpleasant. Musty and molding and like something died. Not what you want when going to a place to eat. Personally this is an ethic issue on the part of the management or owners. The belief that they could get us there and we would stay because of how far out they are..well that didn't happen. They will never get a penny from me. Such a shame for a place that could do so much better. I would give no stars but you have to leave at least one.

The outside is an unassuming brick building, kinda in the middle of nowhere. The inside is quaint, like a small Cracker Barrel with nostalgic knick-knacks around the walls. Server was absolutely amazing and the people are very friendly. But, the star of the show is the food that the back of the house prepares. Pizza was great, wood fired and perfectly crispy. Airline chicken caprese was a special and had roasted chicken, parmesan pepper grits, mozzarella with sun-dried tomatoes and sweet potato and kale stir fry. Crispy skin on the chicken, moist on the inside. Grits were peppery and creamy. Cheese was fresh and cold with the tangy tomatoes and then add the sweetness of the sweet potato....hits all the parts of a palate. The kitchen is locked in, firing on all cylinders and doing it right! Creative, fresh and perfectly executed. Please do yourself a favor and try this place. We will continue to return!

This week was different- I ordered the special for the night, a tasty fish dish. I am on a keto diet. The fish came topped with slaw. I was supposed to order " a carb" so I asked for more green beans. They said I already had a vegetable ( slaw). And that I couldn't have green beans. I love their green beans. But that was that - the waiter remained firm. So my plate came looking a little bare ( white fish fillet with slaw on top). I had not had that happen before. It annoyed me!

Bluffs is a historic restaurant located at milepost 241 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It opened in 1949 and was the first dining establishment on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The restaurant closed in 2010, but funds were raised to renovate and reopen it in 2021. Things needed to get up to code, and the kitchen needed to be modernized. But they made sure to keep the dining area as it was back in 1949. They kept the retro lunch counter and cigarette machine. The green-and-white checkered floor was preserved, and the restaurant has wooden tables. They went for a rustic style with high ceilings, exposed wooden boards, sturdy beams, and low-hanging vintage lights. The goal during the New Deal Era was for it to blend in with the Appalachian landscape. Then Hurricane Helene hit in September 2024, and the whole parkway was closed due to landslides, fallen trees and infrastructure damage. Eight miles of the parkway reopened in September 2025, and Bluffs could reopen. The restaurant is currently open Thursdays through Sundays, so plan accordingly. Reservations are not taken, and it is walk-in only. I had to wait for a table as I didn't want to sit at the bar. My table was ready early, and the host came looking for me nearby at the Parkway gift shop. I thought that was really sweet. Service here was spot on, and everyone was so friendly. I ordered the NC Mountain trout as I wasn't going to be able to get that anywhere else. It is a locally sourced fish and came from the Blue Ridge streams. It had a pecan crust that was tasty too. I chose the baked apples for my side, and some rice, veggies and cornbread came with it too. It was filling, but I was ready to try the peach cobbler. They didn't have peach cobbler by itself, but the version they had came with blackberries and peaches. I was taken aback by it at first, as it looked like cake and not the cobbler I was familiar with. But it is an Appalachian technique, or "lazy man's cobbler," in which the wet batter rises through the fruit as it bakes, creating a soft, cake-like structure. The flavors were good, and I enjoyed the fruit in it. Eating heritage trout surrounded by the historic 1949 decor was the absolute perfect way to toast my final North Carolina county! Completing all 100 counties has been an unforgettable journey, and I couldn't have picked a more perfect or historic landmark to cross the finish line.

It was very cold where we were sitting and the server allowed us to move to a warmer spot. We ordered a fried mushroom appetizer. This was very good. They came with ranch and I think it was the horseradish sauce. The orangish sauce was very good. I ordered 1/2 rack of dry ribs with mac & cheese and green beans, and 2 hushpuppies. You get a choice of Texas toast, hushpuppies, or rolls. My coworker ordered salmon. When the food came out, my ribs were wet. I told the server that I had ordered dry rub. He stated they were dry but had sauce on them. I'm sorry, that is not a "dry rib", in my opinion. The first piece of rib meat I ate was soft and juicy. The next two were super dry and I could not eat any more of them. My coworker joked that that was probably what they were referring to when they said "dry rub". The green beans were ok. I added a ton of pepper and some hot sauce. I saved the mac & cheese for lunch the next day. The hushpuppies were dense and needed a little more flavor. My coworker commented that her salmon was ok but nothing to write home about. I should have went with my first instinct and ordered from the kids menu. The prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is nice.
