Camping here for years, great campground, great staff. Internet was an issue, but they just upgraded their internet. Clean bathrooms, reasonable prices for tent sites and cabins. First I understand it was a holiday weekend so I expected it to be busy but I did not expect our tent site to be 25 feet wide with our neighbors tent set up about 10 feet from our tent. I will be able to camp store a rating of 4.5. The only reason it's not a five is because the price of the T-shirts is ridiculously outrageous oh and their stickers. The staff there are unbelievably friendly and helpful in so many ways. I understand campsite bathrooms get very crowded but I don't think those got cleaned daily. Someone should be on call to fix one every time the toilet overflows so that we have all of them to use so we aren't waiting an hour to go to the bathroom or to shower. Don't ever go on July 4. Their fireworks display is the most dangerous display I've ever seen in my life and trust me I've let off quite a few fireworks on my own. Debris was falling on us. Some people were sitting 30 feet from where the fireworks were being ignited. For a place that has a little over 100 campsites plus cabins I would think the pool would be a little bit bigger. The campground manager, Tom?, went above and beyond. He was always in the move and was very polite. He helped us change cabins when we we assigned in with three sets of bunk beds so we could have a double bed. The cabin we were then assigned was clean, it even smelled clean. They lost one star because the beds were like sleeping in plywood. They clearly need replaced. The pool was nice, albeit small and in need of a good cleaning (subtract one star). OVERALL: I would stay here again but would bring an air mattress to use in place of the provided plywood mattresses. read more

We stayed two nights in a family cabin and were pleased with our experience. The family cabin had two rooms, ceiling lights and fan, two sets of bunk beds in one room and a full size bed in the front room. The building with several bathroom/showers was within walking distance. The facility staff did an awesome job of keeping the bathroom/showers clean. It rained during our stay, and they attended to the bathrooms several times throughout the day. Great job guys! I was impressed. I will recommend the place. read more

We went camping earlier this summer and had a blast! We reserved a site, packed up our tent and food, put a leash on our NYC pup and headed on up to Jim Thorpe. It was a great experience! We were given a pretty spacious site, fairly close to the bathrooms. Check-in was simple and the employees were nice. We got the basic site, so all we had was a fire pit and picnic table upon arrival. We set up our tents and our space and buckled down for the next three days! We had a blast exploring the area, visiting Jim Thorpe, and just spending the days relaxing with each other. We had pretty much everything we needed, and if we didn't, the store up front (about 10 minutes walking) had it - for a fair price, too. The bathrooms were about 2 minutes away walking and were always pretty clean. The only times they got mucky were later in the evening when people took showers and left muddy footprints. Definitely recommend bringing a pair of flip flops to wear always! The bathrooms were also more 'modern' then I was expecting. Each had a stall shower, toilet, sink, and mirror, with either paper towels or a dryer. Morning 'rush-hours' can be rough if you happen to wake-up with a full bladder, but towards the end of our stay, they opened up the back bathrooms, which provided an additional 4 restrooms. There is a long trail that would be perfect to bike. Mosquitos can be a pain, so make sure to bring long pants and a long shirt, and a citronella candle! We had a bit of a problem with noise (our neighbors) the first night, but I'm assuming someone spoke to them from management, because on the second night they were fine! Everyone was nice and really friendly. It was definitely a great time, and I highly recommend this spot! It's quick drive from Jim Thorpe's 'downtown', so it's worth the stay if you're looking for some adventure! read more

I always camp at state parks so this would be comparable to a state park. It had a nice clean pool. If you go to the bottom of the camping facility near the tents you will meet up with a bridge that takes you to a great hiking and biking location. Follow the trail to the right and it takes you to the damn and the beach area of Mauch Chunk Lake. If you follow the damn across to the mountain there is another hiking trail. Be careful, we saw a bear while hiking here. I like this place for the location. Right next to town. The bathrooms were clean and get cleaned regularly. It was about $80 for two nights. Seasonal rates were high $1,500 for two adults. The game room could be updated. The playground sites can get noisy with all the kids running around. read more

I recently acquired a pop up camper and wanted to put it to good use. Jim Thorpe Camp Ground is where we chose to go. Upon arrival, check in was fast and done efficiently. i really appreciated that, after a long drive, who wants to wait to check in. As advertised my site had running water, electric, and cable, which I didn't use the cable. our site was very large and clean. it had a fire ring plus an over sided picnic table. The true test of a good campsite is the public restrooms. I was impressed, the bathrooms were clean which is a direct result of staff's commitment to it's customers. Bathroom and showers are located throughout the camp grounds which is convenient. Due to the location of the camp ground cell phones work with no internet service. The camp ground offers free wifi. Unfortunately, the wifi is spotty at best. I attempted to get help a few times only to hear that is how it is. For this reason i give Jim Thorpe a 4 out of 5. I will be back for sure! read more

This wasn't the best campground I've stayed at but it wasn't the worst either. There's a decent playground if you come with your kids. We checked in about 40 minutes after 2 due to traveling. Check in is at 2. The lady at the store had a map with our name on it taped to the outside. She was rushing out and told us to look at the map to find our cabin and asked if we needed a heater or ice and then left. We figured the key was with the paper until we grabbed it. The lady had already left so we looked on the map to find our cabin, thinking maybe they left the key on the porch. It wasn't there so we went back to the store to find a number to call. The lady came back and was kind of condescending for being the one who didn't give us the key. She proceeded to tell us in a half bitter tone that today was the only day she could leave early. Then asked in a very condescending way if we needed a heater or ice after we already told her we had a heater and we didn't need ice because it was 30 degrees outside and we were only staying the night. We got lucky with our cabin. There was more room than at most. We definitely would not be able to get our SUV parked. Most of the sites are very close together. If camping in a tent or trailer, I would confirm with the owners if the size would fit the site. I would never go tent camping here because I prefer sites that are a little more spread out. I'm not sure I would have room for my tent, SUV, and chairs. The cabin is small, but we only wanted something to lay our heads down in. They allowed us to move the fire pit and didn't care when we were still out there at 11. In fact, they asked us if we needed anymore firewood. The mattresses were very uncomfortable but I find that's how it always is in these places. I just bring an air mattress. The campground was clean for the most part. There was trash stashed in one of the boards in the cabin but the room did smell of cleaning product and the bathrooms were clean. If we were headed to Jim Thorpe again, we would stay here once more. read more

My boyfriend & I recently stayed for the weekend. The campsites are way too close together! I go camping often, PA & NJ, and this was the most congested campground with the least amount of privacy that I had ever camped at. I had a conversation with one of the couples next to us (I say one because there were 4-all way too close) without even having to raise my voice. There aren't any low trees or bushes to offer any type of feeling of seclusion. It really took away from the camping in the woods experience. On another note, there was a 7 or 8 stall bathroom facility but only 2 of the stalls were open the first night. We overheard a bunch of campers discussing how they had to ask the front desk to open more because a line of 8 deep had been forming. Saturday evening they finally opened 2 more stalls but there were still lines to use the facilities. The bathrooms were icky. The ventilation fan was filthy. Not sure why since they close the facilities daily from 12-1pm to clean. On a positive note, the woman who checked us in was great! We did have a nice time, despite the close quarters, but I don't believe we will be back again. read more

Pulling in we noticed the tinyest area to have a fire with barely any space for chairs, no table in yard (its filling up the porch) apon entering our cabin it was filled with cob webs & spiders. Had 3 sets of bunk twin beds when were a couple & pictures showed full size bed that could fit 2. The cabin smelled extreamly musty & a mouse ran out the door when we stood inside for the 3 minutes we tolerated the inside. Had a fantastic time at this family campground. The owners had an amazing fireworks display and brought in a reptile show that was fun and interactive with the audience. The ladies at the front desk were very nice and helpful when asked questions about the area and downtown Jim Thorpe. Bathrooms were clean and attended to every day. I would definitely recommend this campground to any families trying to get away for a couple of days (I will book during the week next time so it's not as busy). If I could give a negative star, I would. This is the worst camping spot I have ever went to. The management is insane. I should have listened to all the negative reviews online, but I didnt. We were kicked out in the middle of the night, threatened, and they claimed to call the police on us. Stayed here over the weekend. The bathrooms were super clean and very closely located to our tent site which was a plus. We did wake up one morning with the facilities being out of service, but it was fixed in no time. Things happen, we understand. We didn't use the campground more than just the site itself and purchasing bundles of wood from the store (no pool, lake, trails, etc). My only complaint regarding the campground is that the tent sites are right on top of each other. Not a whole lot of room to spread out and finding parking can be a nightmare. And there is absolutely no cell service what so ever. I didn't even try the wifi as free wifi can be just as bad as no service. So forcing to disconnect was a plus for the relaxing weekend. Definitely would come back, but I was expecting a little bit more space between campsites. read more

We've been camping at Jim Thorpe Campgrounds for 18 years and just got home from a weekend there with family and friends. They had the Christmas in July celebration with a hayride for the kids and free snow cones. There was a coloring contest and every child received a prize. We have been camping for over 40 years and find our experiences at Jim Thorpe to be very memorable and pleasant. The people there are wonderful. read more

I typically prefer to camp at state parks as I find them to be larger camp grounds and less crowded. This camp site was decent and had individual bathrooms/showers. It was pretty full and thus fairly densely packed; however, this was not a concern as our intent was to go in to town and see the attractions vs staying at the camp ground and unwinding. There were often lines for the bathrooms. The camp store was well stocked with most amenities, including ice and dry firewood. All-in-all, the camp site served it's purpose, however, if my intent was to have a quiet, get-away- this would have left a bit to be desired. I was surprised that I saw very few (if any) children there (other than my three.) That may be a benefit to others though... read more

I recently tent camped at Jim Thorpe over the weekend. The staff was helpful and friendly and allowed us to check-in early since our site was free. The camp store has EVERYTHING you need which was good for those oops, I forgot...moments. Our site was conveniently next to the restrooms, however, they were out of use the first morning we were there. I will say I enjoyed that they are single restrooms complete with a toilet, shower, and sink so it makes using the bathroom and showering much more easier and private. The sites were very close to each other, which I did not like, but overall I enjoyed my experience at Jim Thorpe and would go back to this campground. read more

I stayed here with 6 other friends for a bonding night and it was one of the best experiences in a public campground I've ever had! The roads are a little hard to navigate but the plot of land allocated to us was the perfect space and great accommodations. The bathrooms were surprisingly very clean and it was nice to have showers on premise as well! I will say the ground could be maintained a little better as there was many roots and tree stubs sticking through the ground and could easily penetrate a tent. Otherwise, I loved my stay at Jim Thorpe and would highly suggest it for a small gathering trip for a weekend! read more

There are several things that make this campground appealing. 1) It has a combination of tent, cabin, and trailer sites. 2) There is an easy, 2-mile hiking trail adjacent to the park. 3) It has a nice pool and a rather new, roomy pavilion (saved our butts on a rainy day!). It's only a few miles out of town (Jim Thorpe). 4) It has full hookups. 5) It has a nice playground. The bad news? 1) It's not cheap, twice what you'd pay at a state park. 2) Although the office staff is not "warm and fuzzy", the gentleman to does the outside work (owner) is super friendly. 3) It's not a sunny park. Lots and lots of trees and mostly all shade. So if you're looking for sun, this park's not for you. 4) It's in the mountains! Finding a level site might be a chore. 5) The sites are small compared to a state park. Tent sites are better than the trailer sites for room. 6) Parking for a cabin is mostly non-existent. You have to park off the side of the camp road. 7) Trailer hookups are in the wrong locations. From what I could see they are at the front of the site instead the back where all your hookups are. 8) Some trailer sites are not attractive at all. Some are located in what I'd call the parking lot. Great if it's raining...no mud, but not my cup of tea. Would we go back? Maybe, but would look for a state park first. read more

The worst experience ever. The owner's daughter came over to our campsite after getting wasted with the young adults in the cabin next to us and told us they were going to throw us out in the middle of the night for being loud... and singing "campfire songs" a few minutes past quiet hours. We broke up the party respectfully and went to our cabins. At 8 am the next morning the owner's son banged on all four of our cabins obnoxiously until we woke up, yelling outside our doors and screaming that we needed to leave the property immediately. He called the cops because we asked for refunds since we had booked the next night. The owner's son then began trying to clean out our cabins while we were still asleep in them, and kept harassing us for keys. They closed down the bathrooms on us and even followed one of our friends into the bathroom stall to watch him pee and accusing him of intent to vandalize the place, even though we were just trying to wake up and get our stuff together. He then began running from cabin to cabin harassing all four couples demanding we return keys, threatening to take us to small claims court if we tried to charge back our cards for unused nights. The cops came and pretended to take all of our info, just to keep the crazy owners from freaking out, while secretly telling us that they were nuts, and that this happened often and thats why there were so many open cabins available. We were grateful the cops were there to protect us from the owners. They made sure we got out alive. DO NOT stay here. You will regret it. read more

Very mixed feelings on this place. We had a good time but mostly because we were in good company. I checked in, got our camper situated (super tight spots) . Had s "pull though" site but there was no way we could pull through people behind us had multople cars and we could swing it. Husband managed to back it into the spot. friends of our checked in about an hour after us. After they paid they were followed out by the owners saying their camper was entirely too big for the spot. They reserved online and you had to enter in the campers size or it wouldn't let you go further, so they were informed of the size, but said they never got that info. My husband went up to meet them and tried to tell the owner they could back it in. Husband also slipped the f bomb in there and owner freaked out (after reading past reviews I thought we were getting kicked out. ) 40 Mins later they finally let him back it in. His excuse was tbat there were too many kids around to do that, but there were plenty of us around to make sure that didn't happen . First night finally making dinner about 8 and I heard what I thought was a fire cracker, looked out and realized one of the electric poles. Blew a few sites up. About an hr later we got our power back. Woke up that next morning, went to take a shower had no water, turns out the well pump blew. The owner joked with my husband saying nothing but issues since we got there. Pool wad freezing but refreshing, wish we took time to swim at the lake. We took bike trails to the lake ( it's a rough trail) and kayaked. Overall a good time. Would I stay there again ? No, but it worked to hang out at. The man who collected the garbage was the friendliest. He stopped to talk with us a few times. read more

We have been to many camping locations in the last few years. This definitely ranks at the bottom of our list. We checked in on a Thursday and stayed until Sunday. Our tent/cabin sites were located in close proximity to a bath house. The resort was quite busy and for the first two days of our trip, only 2 of the 8 shower/toilet rooms near us were open. This was an even bigger issue this trip because we had toddlers that had just learned to use the potty. So when they had to go, there were many times when the two rooms were occupied and toddlers don't exactly know how to hold it. We asked the staff if more rooms could be opened and they said there were plumbing issues. They said all of the bathrooms were open near the check-in desk but that was a bit of a walk with toddler emergencies. People who have camped there before said that this is always the case. The staff leaves the majority of the rooms locked until they are crowded on the weekends to clean less. So it seems as though a fib was told. Within an hour of asking, all 8 of the rooms were opened and the plumbing issues were magically fixed. Also, not that you need Wifi when camping but since they had it, they had awful wifi. They told us that it could be used throughout the campground and it couldn't. No one could stay connected so it was basically a pointless thing for them to offer. We will not return to this campground. Also, it states in the rules that there is to be no loud radio or music. There must have been some reunion or family event. I would say half of the campground were these people camping together as a group. They just so ended up at the 3 cabins across from us. Their music was so loud and they were all screaming, yelling, singing all night. This was completely unenjoyable as camping is supposed to be relaxing. read more

I can't speak for the campsite itself but the service is terrible. I cancelled my stay two months in advance of my visit and I can't get a refund. This is despite Jim Thorpe policy that I'm entitled to a refund. Over the course of the past month I've written 5 e-mails, called the campground on numerous occasions, and filed a complaint with the BBB. Still no refund. I couldn't get so much as a response, even from phone calls. Not sure why it is so hard to get a simple refund. Word of advice, don't book here unless you are absolutely sure that you won't need to cancel for any reason. read more

First off I want to say that the staff at this campground are great. Very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately that's where the positive review ends. We were there this past week for several days to enjoy activities in Jim Thorpe. We rented (and were assigned) cabin #4. It was hands-down the filthiest cabin we have rented in over 20 years of camping. It was dark, dank, and simply uninviting. The ceiling fan was so dirty that we dared not turn it on to keep the dirt from being flung all over the place. The pools were even worse. The adult pool was murky and the children's pool was dirty. It was very obvious that the man in charge of maintaining the campground (owners son) was overwhelmed and not able to keep up with maintaining this facility. Quiet hours were not enforced during our entire stay. We had the misfortune of being 2 cabins away from a bunch of drunks who could care less about their surroundings and partied every night till 2 AM. This campground has potential but they need to hire more people in order to make it happen. Please keep in mind I'm basing my review on cabin #4 (as well as the cabin next to it, those folks weren't happy either) and have no opinion on the RV or tent areas. read more

We just spent the weekend here. Rented two cabins. Plenty of space for 13 people! Owner and his family are super nice! We loved it! We cannot wait to go back! Cabins are as stated, rustic. But that's what we wanted! We were able to rent two heaters one for each cabin, through the store! Bathrooms were super clean! I would definitely recommend camping here!
