We used Jim Wagner several times over the years. We recently called to have them fix a faucet that they installed just over 2 years ago. The technician Kevin, said that it was missing a clamp to hold it in place. Instead of seeing if he could fix, all he could do was try and sell us an $800 new faucet. There was to empathy shown. He insinuated that we should have done a better job do inspecting their work from 2 years ago! Sorry to say we asked him to leave and will never use them again. They should be embarrassed for not taking any responsibility for the poor installation, and making insulting comments making this our problem and not theirs! Was a return customer for a while because of how friendly and informative they were, but they have always been somewhat expensive. However, the most recent visit was so bad for such an inflated price, that I likely will not be calling them again. I had a link under my sink, and the guy replaced the wrong valve, despite my direction. When I called and said the leak was not fixed because he replaced the wrong valve, I got no offer for refund or free replacement. Just a response that he wasn't available til the following week. He also bent the heck out of my water softener shut off while he was under there. So I ended up just fixing it myself for $20 because I wasn't about to pay another $350 for another valve read more

I plugged each into AI and selected 3 and reached out/put in a request for a call back on their website. First, Jim Wagner reached out same day (and it was a Saturday!), another one reached out 3 business days later, and the other one never reached out. I went with Jim Wagner, and I am so happy I did. They had a call off, and called to ask if I could move my appointment to a later time in the day - no problem. Christopher showed up promptly at the time promised, and he was friendly, explained everything in detail, was very transparent with cost, provided a coupon online I was not aware of, and spent a lot of time here ensuring the problem with our drain was fixed. For the record, the cost for them to come out was a little less than the others I researched, and second - I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for, but of course value has to accompany the cost, and I firmly believe it did. Came out and was going to charge us $499 apiece to install two bathroom faucets. Later found out from another plumber that they were never broken. They just needed to be tightened. Work was done by another plumber. They were both tightened and it cost us $130! Would never recommend this plumber. We have used them three times. We have two water heaters so we used them to replace them when they went bad. No issues and prices seemed fair. Most recently used them to replace a supply valve to my toilet that would not shut off my water. I learned it was not working when I wanted to shut off the water because my water intake assembly inside the toilet was filling when it should be shut off. Called in on a Wed morning spoke with Ryan who scheduled Dan to come out within a few hours. There is a $49 charge to diagnose which is not applied to your repair. I was told upfront so I did not mind. When he came out Dan diagnosed the issues and gave me a price of about $225 for each and pointed me to a $30 off coupon which I had not noticed on their website. I really appreciated that. Dan got to work and took time to show me where our main water shut off was etc. After he was done, he showed me how to shut off the new valve and everything was clean and neat. He showed me the old parts too. He was very friendly and pleasant to have in my home. That night I noticed that they used a flexible line to the toilet that had some extra so it had to be looped. It was looped away from my toilet and sort of in the way since it's a tight space and I like to put a small trash can back there. I decided to email them photos and see if they could fix it so it was looped behind the toilet. I emailed the email I found on their fb page and got a quick response agreeing with me and saying someone would call me first thing in the morning to set up an appt for someone to fix it. This morning around 8am Brittany called and set up an appt for Jason to come out between noon and 2. I guess he was running ahead of schedule because Ryan called me around 11 and asked if he could come early. I was home so no problem. Jason arrived and was able to reposition the flex pipe so it was behind my toilet and out of the way. I really appreciated how they treated me and did not act like I was being picky or unreasonable. Of course there was no charge since the repair was under a 1 year warranty. Jason also took time to explain why they use a little longer flex tube. He said that the straight ones can break if the toilet moves a little since there is no give. This made sense to me, and I appreciated the explanation. Maybe they are not the cheapest plumbers but our experience has been great with them, and sometimes the cheapest solution is not always the best. read more

Absolute rip off! I needed a bathroom sink, fixture replaced, and a clog fixed.I priced the fixture out to be around $35 at Home Depot. Couple hours worth of work and they charge me $666.!!! The guy didn't even unclog the sink! When I realized the sink was still draining slowly after he left side, call back to complain. The same plumber returned, had the audacity to be pissed off at me and still refused to fix it. I had no idea what any of this stuff should cost, but contacted local plumbers in my area and it's nowhere near that number. Had a wet carpet in a room with a floor drain so we thought the drain might be backed up. Turns out it was just a water heater in the room next door leaking and seeping under the wall. $600 for them to tell us the water heater was leaking. $100 was the emergency charge, even though I told the woman on the phone it wasn't really an emergency. $500 was running a camera in the drain line. No one asked our permission to perform that task, nor did they advise the price before they did it. We had a great plumber sent through Wagner. That was 4 years ago. He left the company but his honesty and good work led us back for a recent issue with our main valve. Two workers arrived an hour late to recommend we call the city to shut off the water. Could've done that if they'd been on time. Didn't even get within two feet of the valve before giving an estimate way beyond expectations. Said half was needed to "get on their list " which made no sense (list to maybe arrive late after city shuts off water so we can be without water longer than what we need to be?) Chris came out and quoted the job with a very reasonable price and the quality of work was unbelievable. They respected our home as well as my wife and I. The pricing and quote was very transparent but again, what distinguishes them is the service and quality of work. Awful experience and terrible customer service. I called for and they promised someone could come over then later tried to reschedule to the next day. They ended up coming over at the end of day but could tell they (joe) had no interest in the job and being there. He was rude, short, and quoted me over 3k to replace the sump pump and backup. I figured they just quoted something absurd to get out of the job. I ended up paying $50 for the service call and it was the best $50 I ever spent because now I know there is no way I would want them touching anything. After he left I went to Ace hardware and had the complete opposite experience. They were super helpful and sold me a $5 part that fixed the backup. Advice - if you're house is flooding call someone else or deal with your insurance - you're guaranteed to have a better experience. read more

If you enjoy paying $40 for someone to walk in your house to try and upsell you and do nothing else, look no further! These are your guys! Rattling in garbage disposal. Plumber refused to try and diagnosis the problem saying "i don't need to look I can hear it's the motor". Then changed to I can hear it's an issue with the blades. When I asked him not to guess and take a look, was told it'd be an additional $170 to diagnose it. Swore we needed to replace it and that disposals only last "3-5 years" (which is not close to true). We passed on anything further because after 10 minutes of circular talk, it was obvious this is a scam. Called another plumber and it took them under 5 minutes to pull a piece of plastic out. Our sump pump went out and we contacted Jim Wagner Services in October/22 at which time we had the pump replaced and paid almost $1,400. for the service. Subsequently in Feb/23 when we were retrieving something from the area we noted the pump was spraying all over. Unfortunately we don't use our basement with the exception of storage. We contacted Wagner's and they came right out to review. Upon review it was noted the pump needed to be redirected and the lid had not been replaced as it should have been in October. The tech sprayed the area for the mold that was obviously growing and noted on our invoice that we were looking for some follow up to resolve. With that said, we received no call from the business. We reached out twice this week and were told to call our insurance carrier. When we asked to speak to a manager, we were told there was no one available. When we asked to speak to one of the Wagner Family we were told there was no one available. When I tried to look for resolution with the Wagner representative on the phone, he simply talked over me. The lack of ownership displayed was concerning. Frankly at this point I have no recourse but to call my insurance carrier. I absolutely understand mistakes happen, but perhaps the Wagner company employees need some customer service retraining; perhaps one of the Wagner family could have simply reached out, heard me and apologized. read more

Have used Jim Wagner Plumbing for years. Recently heard water constantly running and highest water bill ever confirmed. Called our go-to plumbing company and Dan was sent out. After walk thru, he was reported he was stumped and suggested installing 2 new toilet flappers as a first step (one of which was installed incorrectly and spouse had to fix 5 minutes after Dan left). He also advised waiting for next water bill ( not due for another 6 weeks) and if needed he'd return to do an 'analysis' for over $300. That would be just for the 'analysis'. I did not choose to wait since the water could still be heard running and my water bill was already exploding. Contacted my water department the next day and they set me up with the Water Smart program. With that program from my computer I was able to isolate the leak and immediately stop it. Here is the kicker: Dan (with us) stood 3 ft. from where the water was very audibly leaking and the condensing water from the overhead pipes was very visibly making a trail on the basement floor. The trail literally stopped 3 ft. from the problem. I understand workmen try to do the best they can. But besides Dan being way off-base solving the problem, even more disturbing to me his manner was condescending and unprofessional. Because I was so desperate to find that leak, I regretfully put up with it. I recently reported this incident to Jim Wagner Plumbing. Response was quick and stated among other things he wished he had more guys like Dan. As a customer of several years, my response to that is time for a new plumbing company. She was very nice and pleasant, which was very helpful considering the stressful situation we were under. She was able to setup an immediate emergency appointment, where technician Chris arrived to our site within an hour or so. Chris was very friendly, totally upfront about the costs of all the parts and labor, and explained the process so well a five year old probably could understand it. He finished the job in about an hour or so, and taking payment was painless as well. We won't call Jim Wagner Plumbing again. My husband called to receive a quote to replace our garbage disposal. The woman said a quote couldn't be given over the phone as the plumber needs to bid in person, and that there is a $40 charge for showing up. Based on the reviews, we made an appt. When the plumber arrived, he said all prices are fixed from "the book" and quoted $270. This seemed high. Lost two stars for the fact the quote was fixed, and we had to pay $40 to receive it when it could have been given over the phone. Through the time here, the plumber was condescending and rude. He continued to reference that people think they know what they're doing between Home Depot and the internet, and he has over 25 years experience and that should matter for something. When my husband was inquiring about the price, if there were any fees, etc, the man responded that other people have bigger jobs so we're lucky for only having to pay $270. This is true it could be worse, but the comments around the price continued. The job was agreed to. When the plumber went to install the new unit, he commented how it wouldn't fit. This was discussed both on the phone and in the first 15 mins that some pipes would need to be cut. The plumber becomes frustrated as cutting the pipes isn't feasible, and commented how everyone knows that, etc. Again, the loud voice and the condensing attitude led my husband to saying "It's time for you to leave." They had been recommended. Set up an appointment with them to repair a leak. They did not show up during their 2 hour window. At the end of waiting for them, they said they were sorry they would not make it because their plumbers were out sick and one was stuck on a longer job. OK, things happen. Gave them a try to reschedule. Again, they did not show up during the two hour window. They did call at the start of the window to say they would be arriving towards the end of the window. When I called to check on the timing as the two hours were up again with no show, they said they were still running late and would come in another 45 minutes or so. They didn't offer a discount or anything, just 4.5 hours of my time that was wasted. The phone service is very polite and professional sounding, but this is an odd way to run a business. read more

I would not use this service again. This was my second time using Jim Wagner Plumbing. The first time was for an emergency repair, which was fine. This service was to snake the main drain. The service itself was kind of OK. The prices were way too high for non-emergency service. When I called the main office to verify the outrageous pricing, they customer service agent said that she didn't have access to the price list. She promised me that the office manager would call me back when the manager came back from lunch. No one called. The plumber tracked pipe gunk throughout the house. The leak was in the laundry room, which has an outside access door. The plumber, instead of using said door, walked through the house to the front door and tracked everything augured out on all of our floor coverings. He did not wear any foot covering. Recently, I encountered some plumbing issues which required the talents of a professional plumber. Typically, I'm a DIY type of person, but for this particular issue (cracked sewer line inside and outside of the home) was too big for me to handle. The plumber that was sent out was kind, courteous, and willing to answer all of my questions. Scheduling for the job took about a week, but that was a function of both their availability and mine. The job went smoothly and overall I was pleased by their work. So why 4 out of 5 stars? Firstly, because I was a bit skeptical of Jim Wagner Plumbing after seeing their 5 star rating on yelp; I feel that my rating may help someone else feel less skeptical of the rating (as they did a great job). Second, the job entailed some landscaping removal (which was indicated in the contract that they weren't responsible for landscaping)... However, my old landscaping was left strewn on the yard...I get it, I was just expecting that they may have moved it or taken it with them. All in all, I was pleased with Him Wagner Plumbing, and I'd recommend them to both friends and family. read more

I am no plumber and barely a DIY'er. We had an over eager ejector pit in our basement that was "running" with the smallest trickle of water into it. Ejector pit connected to the basement bathroom and not the sump pump. Service call was easy to set up. They were on time and very professional. He took time to inspect the situation with me present AND explain what he was doing and what was wrong. Of course I assumed they would say it was bad and needed replacing and they did. They present an all inclusive price that could be perceived as sneaky. I mean, why not break out the parts cost & labor unless you are hiding something. Perhaps if I asked they would have done that, but I did not. He didn't have the ejector pit with him, but being local he was able to retrieve one from the shop same day, in fact, within an hour, and start my job. During the job a problem was encountered, he called me down, explained it, showed me it, and fixed that as well. For an additional charge obviously. The fact he walked me through the entire repair taking time to explain and show me what was wrong, what he was fixing, & how it was being fixed gave me peace of mind. Sure I could have done it myself for 1/3rd the cost, but I would have lost a weekend, if not two. I let the professionals do what they do and this was worth it. read more

Sometimes it's not the service that performed but the services that are NOT performed. We contacted Jim Wagner Plumbing at the recommendation of our friends to remove a pedestal sink and toilet in a powder room so we could redo the floors. They recommended we didn't do this as the new floors would be at a different height and when we brought them back to re-install the cost would be over a thousand instead of a couple hundred. I called to obtain an estimate to have my gas line extended within my home to install a gas fireplace. I was told that I would have to pay a $39 diagnostic fee. I asked why I would pay a diagnostic fee when there is nothing to diagnose. I was told that was the fee for a technician to come out. I inquired if I would get credited back the $39 if I went with them to install my gas line. I was told no. Absolutely no way I am going to pay a company to give me an estimate on new work when they won't even credit you back the cost of the estimate if you go with the company for the work. read more
