My husband and I both ordered the medium twist. And the medium was a generous size. You can get toppings but we choose to have it plain. The ice cream was very smooth and creamy. Even though there was a long line we were served quickly. I was told by the elders of Demascus that their parents and grandparents came to this ice cream shop and that it was the town staple. Not a fan of the of the soft serve ice cream but let me say I hater the snowball.... worst part was the ice... not shaved at all. Was chunky like it came out of my refrigerator or a fountain drink.. Well, I would like to support small businesses but I will not drive 45 min just to get the soft serve there. It's mediocre soft serve. Nothing special. It's great place to have in the area, where there is not other choice. We have Carmen in Rockville, which their products are way superior. Jimmie's soft serve fat contain is much less than 10%. In order to have rich and flavorful soft serve, it has to have 10%. Try Carmen's, you know the difference. read more

First of all, it's ice cream! Soft serve only, which is my personal favorite. They offer the creamiest ice cream I've ever had, anywhere! The portions are beyond generous, almost more than I can eat (and I always get a small cup with Jimmie's). There is almost always a line, regardless of the weather, but with two windows open, the line moves quickly. The seating is all outside, along the parking lot, on picnic tables. Until recently, they were a cash-only business but they now accept cards too. The menu has a lot of variety, including shakes and floats, sundaes and cones. They've got an extra small size for little kids, but even that is generous. It's a happy place to go and enjoy a delicious treat. I have been coming to Jimmie Cone for years but in the past few years after moving to Frederick I have exclusively been going to the Mount Airy location. Each time I go I get the Small Chocolate Milkshake which is hands down the best milkshake I've ever had. Something about using soft serve ice cream to make a milkshake is just amazing and I never get tired of it. The Mount Airy location can get crowded with long lines at times but I promise it is well worth the wait. We love this place and have for many years. I always get the same thing - swirl of chocolate and vanilla with rainbow Jimmies. They are doing a great job with protecting both customers and their workers during the COVID19 pandemic. They are requiring masks for all customers and employees. Employees are wearing gloves and there are separate personell handling money and food. They have removed the tables and have markers on the sidewalk for social distancing. Many people sit in their lift gates or just hang out in the parking lot. Even for a small, the serving is generous. I know my boyfriend couldn't finish his medium cone one time. Prices are pretty cheap. There is usually a line during the summer, especially if you go there at night or after a local baseball game. There are several picnic benches to sit at while you enjoy your frozen custard. A classic Damascus/Mt.Airy favorite for ice cream. A solid name in your local soft serve ice cream. The long lines on a hot day show it's popularity for a summery treat. I got a root beer flavor snow cone with vanilla ice cream on top, an icy interpretation of a root beer float. It was pretty tasty and the combination worked quite well. Jimmie's is a day trip in and of itself. The ice cream is a local legend, and justly so. It's really excellent. The "jimmies" are great. Every desert treat they offer is tasty and worth trying. On the other hand, the service is atrocious. The worst in town. It's almost always indifferent, careless teenagers who put zero (or less than zero) effort into getting your order correct, making correct change, etc. On more than one occasion they've been outright rude to people who were slow moving from the window, or slow to decide, etc. Ice cream is fantastic. That's about the size of it. :) Some additional tidbits....first and third Saturdays in the summer are "Cruise nights" at the Mount Airy location, parking lot fills with classic cars all the way from Model T's to Prowlers and everything inbetween. Some cruise nights will have a dj spinning classic rock tunes as well. Parking can get crowded on these nights, but it's worth it if you have any appreciation for muscle cars and the like.
