JC is a family favorite. They are always crowded and have groups waiting to be served. They operate on a cash-only basis which the locals enjoy and the out-of-towners annoyed. However, their menu selections cannot be beat. Great soft serve ice cream and with almost anything you can imagine or want on your bowl, cup, or the various types of cones. As a soft serve lover, I've known that Jimmie Cone is highly regarded, and it's been on my list for a very long time. I finally tried it and it is indeed excellent soft serve. I got the strawberry flavor with butterscotch. Strawberry and butterscotch is an elite, overlooked combo. The ice cream is rich and creamy. The strawberry flavor was on point. My boyfriend enjoyed his cone too. They don't offer dip or swirl but that's OK. Staff was friendly. Soft serve is hard to find in this area and I cannot wait to return. read more

This is a nice place to bring the family or just come here on a whim like me and grab some quick ice cream. The presentation of the vanilla on cake cone dipped in rainbow sprinkles is cool. I got a sundae because I never had one I. My life but this was awesome. The pricing is reasonable with inflation and they do that credit cards. I'm so happy Jimmy cone is open. It's on its spring hours so I went on Sunday afternoon. It was pretty crowded with a long line that moved fast. I tried the sugar-free raspberry soft ice cream and the vanilla custard. Hands down the vanilla custard wins. We finally made it here after years of hearing about this place. We thought that on a Thursday night (May 25) at 9 pm, it should not be busy, right? Wrong. The parking lot was packed, but we did get one of the last spots. The parking lot is a little hairy, not the best layout. There were about 20 people in front of us, but the line moved pretty fast. The kids working there are so pleasant and friendly, and they definitely kept the line moving. We both got a medium - 1 orange and 1 orange/vanilla twist. Medium is more than enough. Maybe we will try small next time. The ice cream is very creamy and rich, and a little on the heavy side. Overall, it was a great experience, and we will return. read more

Fun little ice cream shop. Took me two tries to make it here. First time, I came in the winter. I didn't realize they close for the season. Came back in the spring and finally got some soft serve! Prices are comparable for ice cream. I love soft serve. The serving size is generous. As always, the larger the size, the better the value. I got the orange swirl. Magically melts very slow. Was delicious! I read some reviews before heading over and the comments are true... might be borderline too thick. Before tasting their ice cream, I thought "impossible!" After tasting it and thought "oh I see..." I wonder if it's certain flavors though. Friends had different flavors and theirs looked more melty and less thick. It appears they have a few rotating flavors. Gotta check their social media for what they are. The logistics of visiting this place is tricky. Very limited parking in their lot. We had to (illegally?) park at the convenience store on the other side. There is no inside the store. It's a window only so if there's any inclement weather, you're standing in it in line. Honestly, this place was a bit of a let down. We were really hoping to find a good nice cream place but Jimmie Cone did not fit the bill. We ended up tossing out half of our order because we just couldn't stand to finish it. Highlights: the serving size was large (but that doesn't mean anything if it tastes bad) and the service is really nice. What we got: Strawberry cake boat (chocolate and black raspberry ice cream) - 2* the lure of strawberries was what won us over on this one. We were very disappointed to find out it was basically like pie filling; super thick, synthetic strawberry jelly with strawberry slivers. The chocolate ice cream was better than the black raspberry but they both tasted like knock off brands you'd buy at a dollar general. It truly was quite the disappointment. We hope their frozen yogurt is better and we're willing to give them another shot. (We also want to do a taste test with their soft serve compared to the McDonald's right across the street, but I digress.) While the menu said the cake was a generous portion, compared to the amount of ice cream and whipped cream it was rather small. I definitely thought it'd be thicker. It's a classic soft serve stand that offers standard flavors such as chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, or twist. Not into ice cream? They also have a variety of Italian ice to choose from. They have sugar free and frozen yogurt options, as well as sundaes and boats. I got my usual summer flavor, small strawberry with rainbow Jimmie's. You can't get a cone without the Jimmie's! The service was as quick and efficient as always. The seating was limited, but it was a beautiful day so I'm not entirely surprised that the seats were taken. Jimmie Cone has super duper yummy soft serve. We came at 830 pm and had to wait approximately 20 mins in line, but the ice cream was delicious. We ordered a hot fudge sundae, a twist cone and a twist dish with strawberry and vanilla. All were very good. Once we got to the front you could see that there may be some opportunities to speed up the line, but perhaps it's done this way due to covid. Either way it was delicious. Solid basic real ice cream! Very creamy, and aside from their usual vanilla, chocolate, and swirl, they'll have specialty flavors every once in awhile. I love the waffle cones and you definitely have to get it with jimmies! It's all outdoors but there's a small tent area to order and stand under if it's drizzling out. The parking lot in front is a bit small but there are nearby parking lots you might be able to park in if it's full. Horrible customer service. I ordered an ice cream with mix-ins. Unfortunately, it turned out to be super messy. So, the staff tried to put it into another cup. Ice cream was dripping off the sides and half melted down as I was picking up. I asked them to remake the ice cream and was told I had to pay for it since it wasn't their mistake. We proceeded to call the manager who also didn't seem to want to make things right and said she will pass our information on to the owner. My parents have been bringing me here since I was born haha I'm fairly picky when it comes to sweets because if I'm going to get the calories I better enjoy it! As far as soft serve is concerned Jimmie Cone is King in my book. My go-to has always been chocolate and vanilla twist with rainbow jimmies but their menu has expanded over time even if my tastes haven't haha I'm partial to the Damascus location, which has much less parking than it's Mt. Airy compatriot, but it's my personal preference. From the night of 9/10 to morning of 10/13, I was temporarily living with a friend in Germantown. The next set of reviews I will be writing are during the Germantown era. Some days I travel for work and others I'm in the office the whole day. When I was in the office (in Halethorpe), I typically took I-695, I-70, down MD-28 to get back to Germantown (and therefore would travel through Damascus). In late September 2017, the mid-Atlantic was experiencing a heat wave. In fact, in the last half of September, DC had temperatures greater than 5 F above average on 12 of 15 days. The peak of the heat wave was from September 20-27 (where all but 2 days were in the upper 80's & low 90's). On Wednesday, September 20, I was coming back from the office talking to my mom. We got on the topic of the weather, and I mentioned it was 88 F. She said, "That's too warm for this time of year. Why is it so warm there?" I said I don't know, but I'm enjoying it and told her I'm going to the world famous Jimmie Cone. My mom asked what's that? "It's only the 2nd best ice cream in the DC area." "What's the best?" "Bruster's Real Ice Cream in Gaithersburg" (as well as 8 other MD locations) [Please see my 5-star review of Bruster's Gaithersburg from summer 2016] I arrived to the most exciting place in all of Damascus. Although Damascus does have the cheapest gas in Montgomery County, so that is pretty exciting...haha. There were several people in the line on this unseasonably warm & sunny day, but they are pretty fast. I got a small ice cream with of course Jimmy's. The whole place is outdoors. I forgot how good the soft serve ice cream was, and the Jimmy's are delicious. It was a real treat. I told the friend I was living with about it, and he said he never had it. I said you gotta make the trek up to Damascus sometime to get it. ---But it doesn't end with Wednesday, September 20th--- On Monday, September 25th after a long day in the office, again I talked to my mom. She asked about the weather, and I said 91 F. She reacted more strongly than on the 20th, "91! Geez, why so warm??" I told her that I'm going to get Jimmie Cone again, and she said that same place you went to last week? I said yup. She said really? "I won't be living in Germantown much longer and when in Rome, right?" She said just get a small and don't eat as much for dinner, okay? I agreed. Similar experience as last time; awesome soft serve ice cream. I told my friend that I was living with, and he said you went again?? I said yeah, it's so good, and when in Rome, right? In summary, if you are ever in Damascus, you should try this. I should mention that they are closed during the colder season. I was dating this chick in late October 2016, and on a Sunday, we were going from where she watches, feeds, walks horses, etc near Clarksburg to Field of Screams in Olney, and I suggested a small detour to get Jimmie Cone. This is a tourist trap and def an overpriced joint. I have been here a couple of times. They now take credit cards, wow. IT took this long for them to do that? Im sure that this is due to the pandemic., however accepting credit cards helps speed things up. The parking lot is a nightmare. Not only its congested, but the spaces are small. If you have a wider car, park elsewhere or watch your car as it will get dinged by others. As for service its decent. The ice cream is in no way, the best. Its kinda of DQ. I like the toppings offered, and the flavors but it ice cream its self, is overpriced and not the best.
