This evening I had Raspberry Bavarian which is vanilla ice cream with raspberry flavor and chocolate chunks. My husband had coconut flavor ice cream with chocolate chips throughout. Both were delicious. Service is always friendly here and it is a cute place out in the country. So I've enjoyed Hoffman's since I moved to Carroll County in 2004. The ice cream is homemade using milk from local farms and is always reliably good. They partner with many of the local VFD fire houses to service ice cream at their carnivals. Off the top of my head they are Winfield, Sykesville, and Reece fire halls to name a few. Their location on 32 has a small convenience store attached to it that makes fresh deli sandwiches. Give it a try and it's worth the trip if you want to get some homemade ice cream. read more

I had a random doctor's appointment in Westminster and my doctor actually recommended I visit here since I made the drive all the way there. This is a very well-known spot for a lot of locals, this was my very first time hearing about it and visiting. They are known for a delicious on site made ice cream and they have a deli. I got an Italian sandwich for eight dollars and it was probably the best Italian hoagie that I've had. It's very homey nothing super fancy very American but delicious. Honestly, I'm still thinking about that sandwich. She also gave me a pickle on the side. What costs $8 these days? And it was so solid! It is partially a grocery store as well and they sell ice cream sandwiches, which I want to try next time. I also got a small scoop of ice cream. Their ice cream is very good. They would get an excellent from me but for their mixing of additions. For example, I've ordered chocolate almond one time and there were so many almonds it was too much. The second time, I found two in the whole scoop. I had the same experience with the buttered pecan and the black cherry. The nuts and fruit across the entire batch is inconsistent. I recently moved a quarter mile down the street and was looking for something quick to eat Hoffman's has been around for 78 years and make their own ice cream and have a little market and sandwich shop too. I ordered a turkey club, a cup of baked potato soup, and bought a half gallon of coconut ice cream. The club was fantastic and reasonably priced, the soup was excellent and the coconut ice cream was out of this world. I have make a pina colada milkshake with it and some rum. Heaven!! The service was prompt, quick and the young lady answered all of my questions about items on the menu. It is a take away place and I didn't see any tables inside but there were some picnic tables outside. The ambiance inside threw me back to my childhood corner store and felt like a step back in time. I recommend stopping by and at least getting ice cream but I will be a regular for sure. read more

I had to make the journey while I was in Maryland. This place has been around for 74 years and is quite sentimental to me. My parents would take me here in the 1960's. My last visit was in 1997. Always generously served, our single scoop ice creams are overflowing from their cones (such a great deal!). And you also get to try flavors you don't get to always have. The "Go-To " place for homemade ice cream in Westminster/Carroll County. They've been around for several decades, and still make their own ice cream. They do have precautions in place for COVID-which sometimes means a long line outside during peak times in the summer. In seasons past, the ice cream line forms at the register inside, and it snakes back through the building to the deli area if it is crowded. However, during this period, only one group is allowed inside the ice cream area at a time and others must wait in a line outside. There are young staff members monitoring the line and ushering people inside when they are ready for them at the counter. And yes people- you gotta wear the mask, even if you believe the Rona is a hoax. ( I do not). It's kind of a bummer-but I totally understand and appreciate the precautions!! Ice cream- there is a good variety of flavors. I prefer chocolate and fudge ripple, but there are more adventurous flavors as well. Milk shakes are popular and from what I recall are very well done. ( Due to dieting, I only get 1 scoop in a cup now.). They have different cones and sundaes, but not a lot of the gimmicky items like a Baskin Robbins chain. Fine by me. It's quality that I crave anyway. And you do get that here. They do have pints and half gallons of their ice cream in a freezer that you can buy and they are more cost effective if you are willing to wait to eat at home. Another " good and cheap tip", they sell homemade ice cream sandwiches in a freezer in the deli area as you come into the store. ( It's easy to grab if you are going toward the ice cream area). They are made with the same ice cream, have a homemade wafer and are a little cheaper than buying a scoop or a cone. My hubby gets them all the time! My husband and I made a quick stop here while passing through Westminster. I was immediately impressed with the amount of customers who were here at 2pm on a Friday afternoon. The place has a mom and pop/convenience feel - homey with a little bit of everything to offer. On the ice cream side, they had cases filled with their ice cream, offering pints, quarts and gallons. All ice cream was homemade and they had vegan and sorbet options as well. There were a lot of flavors to choose from, a great blend of unique and traditional options. My husband got the chocolate marshmallow and I got pumpkin, a seasonal flavor. We also ordered a small vanilla pup cup for the girls. The ice cream was so creamy and the pumpkin flavor was spot on, but not overpowering. When sampling my husbands, the chocolate was light but still had a nice richness to it. Prices were very reasonable and customer service was exceptional. You could tell they had an efficient system down to get everyone served in a timely manner. Highly recommend for overall quality! Every person who works here is very friendly and as a family owned homemade creamery, they truly care about the ice cream and you. I frequent this place once a week for my refill pints of Chocolate Chocolate Chunk, Dutch Chocolate, Strawberry Cheesecake and the absolute smash hit 'Bavarian Raspberry' which is a limited time summer flavor but it should be 365 because the raspberry compote/jam along with the vanilla and dark chocolate chunks is anything but ordinary.
