My wife and I love Mexican food, which we eat at least once a week. We are used to and expect the best. So, having heard of this place, which is usually busy, we decided to try it. We ordered a couple of margaritas with some ridiculous name because we like Hornitas tequila, and a couple of Jimmy's Deluxe Platters. The margaritas came, and we tasted them eagerly. At $6.75, one would expect a decent marg, but this had almost no tequila in it. We had to order an extra shot just to taste any tequila at all. Strike one. The chips came, along with red and green sauces. The red sauce tasted like crushed tomatoes, and had no kick at all. The green sauce tasted like sour cream with green food dye. Strike two. The food came, and it was just average, almost as if they shared a kitchen with Case Ole, the bottom feeder of Mexican restaurants. Even with pickled jalapenos, it was pretty bland. The cheese enchiladas tasted like American cheese, the tamale had no taste at all, and the queso chip was just Cheez Whiz with some bland chunks of what might have been jalapeno if it had had any flavor at all. Strike three. Strikes four, five, and six came when groups of waiters surrounded various tables and started chanting and clapping so loudly that we could not even hear each other across the table. This went on about a minute each of the three times they did it, driving home our determination never to go there again. If I wanted to eat at a birthday party, I would go to a Chuck E Cheese, where that sort of thing is to be expected. As for me, when I spend my hard-earned money in a restaurant, I want to eat in peace. Establishments that plan to torture their patrons this way should be required to post a warning at the entrance. My wife and I come here at least three times a month. Robert is the most considerate manager I have ever encountered at a restaurant. He makes you feel important and like you're the only guest there. On our last visit our server Kaitlyn deserves an A+. We've never had a bad experience here and would recommend it to everyone. read more

Jimmy Changas - Tex-Mex Near Me - Pasadena, Texas

Well, this is probably the best restaurant in the area, and for that alone it gets a 4 out of 5 by comparison. However, the atmosphere really is something that you would not expect from a restaurant in Deer Park, TX. It is a large restaurant, with an outside patio, a bar, and several areas with plenty of seating. My favorite spots are the waterfall outside, the bar area that overlooks it, and the built-in fire place. There is hardly a wait when my family and I go because we wait until 8:30 on Friday or Saturday nights, and it's still pretty full. I've only had the family platter fajitas for 2 or 3, which feeds four big appetites (which we have) well. It comes with ribs (which aren't my favorite), tender chicken, bacon wrapped shrimp, peppers and onions. Yum. You get a butter dipping sauce for all of this, too. My family also has said the mango salad there is good. The chips and salsa/green sauce are alright, nothing particularly memorable, but it works. The last time we went in (last Saturday), our waitress did work on pushing us out though, so we weren't thrilled about that. We ate, and she promptly brought us the bill. Then we paid and she returned with the receipt and told us to stay as long as we liked but then made several trips back to clear plates. She would get like a plate and a glass at a time, leave and then come back for another plate and glass. She even picked up the paid bill with tip and took it away while we were still sitting there (which I think is so rude!), and came back to clear plates. We were there probably 20 minutes after we finished our meal. She said something fake once more like, 'ya'll enjoy yourselves.' We got up and my father mumbled to me, "I can take a hint." My father normally tips 20%, I sure hope he didn't that time... Aside from that, we've had pretty good experiences here. read more

Nothing special, I did not understand what all of the hype was about. Bland food, smaller portions, and slow service. The spinach enchiladas were just gross. Chuy's is less than 10 minutes north of Jimmy's; go to Chuy's instead. read more

Lindi, the Community Relations Coordinator from the Gringos restaurant chain contacted me directly after my review. Her professionalism, compassion and genuine concern to continually improve the chain's customer service and overall food quality earned the chain another star. It's difficult to keep consistent quality with these massive chain restaurants without completely losing the freshness of the product. My expectations are always low when I frequent these places, but it's a nice assurance to be aware this particular restaurant chain isn't arrogant and truly wants growth with their company based on customer satisfaction. I enjoy coming to Jimmy Changas every single time. I can't say I've ever had a bad experience in the several times that I have come here. The waitresses and waiters are all polite and are there for any and all of your needs. The food is great. I've had multiple entrees and appetizers and they were all very good. This is a place where I could go to try everything on the menu with a date or with the kids. The ambience was inviting and modern. The prices are reasonable. I had the seafood enchiladas. Before now I would never order seafood enchiladas from anywhere but Pappasitos. So for the price, I was very pleased with my dish. The flavors, the quality, and the quantity was just right. So disappointed in the one on Center Street. Regular customers and went in after Hurricane Harvey. Limited food and allowed one basket of chips because of distributors not being able to get there, that was all fine and I had no problem with that. I'm not sure what the limit of price gouging is considered but when they charge $12.00 for everything ordered that's just wrong. It's not normally $12.00 on the menu why would they charge $12.00 after a major storm. I would at least have liked to been told everything was $12.00 and given the option to leave if I so desired. After seeing the signs for months we finally went for lunch. The food wasn't bad, but nothing special. Only draw back was slow service, bu tit was busy and they did make sure we were filled with chips, salsa, and tomatillo sauce (the green stuff). I love the decor inside and out, the food selections are delicious and they actually have a relatively long list of healthier options than you get in most Mexican restaurants. The service is usually really good, we often go for work lunches, but I love their dos-ritas when the work day is done. :) The playground for the kids is fenced and really nice for families who want to keep the kids entertained and enjoy some adult conversation. This place is definitely a step above your average Mexican restaurant!! I recommend the Dirty Tostadas and the Mexico City Caldo and Fajita salad... but have never had a bad dish, yum. No idea why you'd be irritated about a restaurant wanting to close when their operating hours are over, the people who work at a restaurant have families at home and things to do like everyone else. With all the Tex-Mex restos out there going to Tex-Mex resto again and again is not so easy, but with Jimmy Changas, I'll make an exception and put my gastronomic exploring tendencies on hold. The atmosphere is always great here and you are sure to find a location if you happen to be in any major suburb of Houston. I've come to be fond of the Dirty Tostadas, which have a generous portion of shredded romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cilantro and avocado. Beneath this top layer, there is a nice heap of pulled pork. Be careful not to eat too many chips and salsa; you'll be surprised how quick you can down them and potentially spoil your main course! read more

I called in at 9:24 to place a small to go order for myself and a girl answered the phone and said that they closed at 9:15... The food is half way decent, but nothing that really wows me. The two items I would recommend are the fish tacos and ahi tuna salad. The two star review is mainly for the service there, for example the last time I went I had a ditzy waitress who it seemed you had to track down to get anything including the check, who found it necessary to "correct" me when I ordered the ahi tuna salad, apparently it's now the mahi tuna salad (moron), and got my girl friends order completely wrong. Due to this and other service related incidents, I cannot recommend this place (other than the aforementioned items of food) and I will not be returning. read more
