This place is certainly not bad, but I'm not sure that I would drive out of my way to eat here again. (And that's more because of where I live versus my experience here.) First, the service here is good. As soon as we walked through the door, someone said "Sit where you like." And, within about three minutes, someone stopped by the table to take our drink orders. I'm not sure what this place was previously, but it almost feels like a repurposed DQ. It is clean and not tight at all, but the space is limited. (Not good for groups.) Though they have a full bar, there are no beers on draft. Not a deal-breaker. The food here is good. I had a combo plate, and the enchiladas actually came with enchilada sauce. It was impressive, if only because I usually only get that at home. The bean and cheese tostada is exactly as it should be -- warm crispy shell and beans topped with cool lettuce and cold cheese (I asked them to omit the tomatoes). The crispy taco is fine in a Tex-Mex sort of way without the pool of grease that is so common with this dish. The rice is way too fluffy for my taste, and the charro beans basically looked like refried beans with some liquid added. Not impressed. I judge Tex-Mex/Mexican restaurants on their salsa, first and foremost. This place serves it warmed, which I despise, but they brought me a cold cup of the red stuff upon my request. It was delicious. Tomatoey. Oniony. A little bite. And I'm pretty sure I tasted some cilantro. The price point here is fabulous, and they seem to have some outstanding lunch specials. If I lived or worked nearby, I could see this being a regular stop. read more

Walked in and they were busy. Self seated and within 1 minute of sitting down a server came to apologize for them not seating us and asked for drink order. I ordered chorizo y huevo and was hoping for fresh homemade tortillas. I did order an extra egg on the side. The food came out pretty quick and there was a good amount of food and fresh homemade tortillas topped it off. I had a Mexican Coke and water along with my meal. The manager came out to check each table 3 times while we were eating which felt appreciated. Hope I can go back in the next few months. read more

I have been there quite a few times. And always been greeted within a few minutes and received drinks right after I ordered. The staff is always so nice and helpful. I always wait till I have been to a place a few times before I do a review. And the food is really fresh and tasty. The restaurant is clean, cute and the tables are not all shoved together, so I do not feel like we are packed in there like sardines. I do recommend this place. Happy Eating! read more

First time coming here with a friend and everything was great. I believe this is their new location. The service was quick, they brought out our drinks along with chips and salsa. I love hot salsa instead of cold and this was on point. I could have eaten salsa and chips only because it was that good. Large well lit parking lot and nice size restaurant. Clean and colorful decor. They sell liquor but we missed happy hour. We ordered chicken enchiladas and flautas and I tried the tripa taco which was good but could have used more cilantro and onion. It came in two tortillas. Enchiladas were good as well with plenty of shredded chicken and cheese. The beans were good too. The flautas were good and plentiful. Best flavored beef fajitas anywhere and great Spanish rice. A real hidden Jewel. Friendly servers and prompt service.

Place was shit. Chiliquiles was bland and awful. We still had to pay for it even though we didn't eat it. We couldn't even try to order something else so I can eat as well because they ignored us. Also this was the worst service ever. We had to wait a long time to even get menus even though they saw us. Then once our food came they came by once to refill coffee then ignored us the rest of the time. There was barely anyone there but they still ignored us and would not look our way when we wanted to get their attention. Don't come here. I would give it 0 stars if I could. read more

I was so excited to see this restaurant reopen in a bigger, cleaner space. I ordered the chile con queso, but it was a little clumpy. For lunch I went with the cheese enchiladas and they were deeeeelicious, as was the rice. The rice was SO good; it reminded me of my grandma's homemade rice. Our waitress was also great at first, but once she left our food she kind of forgot about us. Luckily, other staff could see our drinks were low (we placed them on the outside of the table) and came to assist. Overall, I'd come back. read more

Beef fajitas for two were absolutely amazing and so well priced. Service was outstanding and fast! This is a hole in the wall Mexican restaurant. Now if you are expecting "chuys" or Papasitos don't stop here. This place caters to locals and the food is good, not expensive, and the decor isn't great but heck your not going to live here. Breakfast is cheap and really good. I believe this little gem is managed by family, it's offers such an inviting atmosphere, dont expect high luxury or nothing fancy, but you will leave here with the most amazing food experience that will keep you coming back. I only came to know about this lovely place through my siblings who live a bit closer to Pasadena. I stay on the SouthWest part of town just after Bellaire area, but I will totally say that it is worth the drive, I love their food. My best food choice here has bee the Menudo, they serve this to your table as though they just finished cooking up the pot for you, it is INCREDIBLE!! If only i lived much closer, my only other place for great Menudo is Gorditas Aguascalientes on Bissonnet/Hillcroft. Also, this little place offers fantastic breakfast, the way it should be cooked, with flavorful refried beans and hot made tortillas with the best cup of coffee to enjoy a wonderful meet up with friends and family. A neighborhood gem! I have been coming here since I was a kid, back when they first opened. It IS a little rough around the edges, look-wise. But their food is THE BEST. I heard a lot of hype about this place having really good food. Well that's all it was was hype. To start off the place is really cold inside and it's already cold outside. It smells, and it was a little filthy. The food was gross I couldn't even finish my plate. The beans taste like they were from a can, the meat tasted like it was cooked as stew meat then gravy added on top. The rice was horrible. Needless to say I will never come back to this Hell's Kitchen. Stay away it is not worth even trying. They need a new cook or they need to go take cooking lessons or something. The best Mexican restaurant in the Southeast area the best menudo you'll ever taste I'm from San Antonio originally and they have very good menudo that says a lot coming from San Antonio San Antonio Texas is known for their great tacos and menudos they have the best tortillas the best food of any Mexican sword they have their family running it so you know they're dedicated they've had the same cook as far as I've been here for 20 years and I've been coming here every Saturday and Sunday one day it's menudo and one day is tacos eat there you won't regret it it's a mom and pop place but it's worth waiting it's worth the drive. read more

This convenient store-turned taqueria is a lunch favorite of ours in the Pasadena hood. It is low key and has all the semblance of being close to a dive as you can get. The nachos off the appetizers menu are really good. I love their simple enchiladas. It reminds you Tex-Mex should be cheap and simple and not $20 for enchiladas. My old boss introduced me to this place as his favorite lunchtime dive and although it has no street appeal or kudos for decor, they have great, cheap, authentic Mexican food with a Mom&Pop shop feel that I can not get enough of! I had my first bowl of caldo EVER here, and I haven't found a place that can beat theirs (even though I never eat the meat!) My other favorites are the huevos rancheros (with bacon not sausage) and the homemade tortillas and the free queso/chips/salsa and the porkchops with eggs... oh and their homemade lemonade! Rancho grande is an ok place to eat guess. The service is absolutely terrible. Rude and very unorganized staff. There is a guy there that will make, a pot of coffee, refill the lemonade jug, walk around refilling everyone drinks, all while you wait on your to - go order for 30+ minutes. Call ahead is also pointless here. You can show up, order food and get it the same time as you would if you call ahead. So all in all, a one star for the aggressively inattentive and rude staff, excessive wait times, and downright unprofessionalism. read more

The Best Pork Carnitas Tacos and Tostadas I have ever tasted in a long time, even the beans taste good! I like to think that a place that takes care and makes good rice & beans, make great other menu items as well. I could the have rice and beans as meal by themself! Excellent Real Tex-Mex food. One of the few places you can get Tripas. The Carne Guisada, Menudo, and Caldo are excellent. The prices are very reasonable, you get used for the sub-par service, in exchange for the good food. Become a regular customer and leave the lady's a reasonable tip, this may help with the service. read more
