Weekend treat - Menudo & Margarita
    Bert L.

Although I try to be a fair reviewer, I am giving this hidden gem a 4.9999+ as the only fault I could find it that she lied when she said the menudo was good! It wasn't.... it was fantastic! The bowl you see is after I had eaten half of it & had to take a break! Have eaten here several times & been impressed with the service, reasonable prices, and cleanliness! Good weekday happy hours. Menudo is weekends only...A must try!

This is our first time here. We never knew this place existed. Thank you yelp. If you like television, there's at least eight of them here. Tortilla chips are the thick variety. Served with red salsa and a green avocado dip. They are not overly salty. Ordered the fajitas beef nachos to share. Our gold standard is Rancho in Friendswood. This fajita meat is a little more fatty, And a little saltier. The menu advertises that it is served with lettuce and tomato; however there was none on our plate. Frozen margarita was $4.99 and is served in a large beer mug. I would rate that a good value.l

Best service whether you get the nice waitress or the nice young man. Fast food. If you're starving stop here. I'm not sure why a reviewer said beans are runny. If he was talking about the refried beans they're just like every other Mexican restaurant ever been to consistency-wise. Can't go wrong with the fajitas. My favorite thing about this restaurant isn't the food but the service it's that it feels comfortable and homey. They have free Wi-Fi just asked for the code.

Excellent food. One of my favorite places to go in south Houston. The enchilada sauce is perfect!

Good authentic Mexican food. No Tex Mex here. Breakfast, lunch or dinner! Good value, too.

Great Fajitas and very friendly service. Their queso was humongous which I really like. The chips and salsa are quite good.

We don't talk about Alvin, TX enough so let me shed some light on this great place. I've had…read moreGordon Street Tavern on my list for awhile for the simple fact that they sell scotch eggs. You just don't see that often and I wanted to try it. The stars aligned and my family and I met up here for a weeknight dinner. Alvin is the true definition of a small town. It is just south of Pearland and life moves a little slower out here. Atleast for time being as it is becoming more developed now. The building itself is old and full of character. Everyone seemed to know each other. The staff was very welcoming and friendly, but service was a tad bit slow at times. My family isn't a big drinking family so we stuck with water and sodas, but they have quite a nice bar program here. They have a really impressive beer selection, a long list of specialty cocktails and lots of wine to choose from. I'm definitely coming back to check that out without the fam. For appetizers, we got an order of the scotch eggs and the Bavarian pretzel sticks. This was my first introduction to scotch eggs and a wonderful one at that. You really can't go wrong with anything wrapped in sausage and deep friend. It was a nice treat and something I will not be sharing next time. The pretzels were also very good. Our waitress suggested some cheese sauce to accompany those. These sticks of goodness were excellent. For my entree, I was stuck on a few items as their menu is pretty extensive. Our waitress said my option for the Pork Milanesa was the way to go, so I did. I've had milanesa at Mexican restaurants, but never in a tavern nor prepared this way. This was hand battered in panko and then topped with a mushroom gravy. It comes with broccoli and mashed potatoes but I substituted the veggie for mac and cheese. This dish was very good and the portions were very generous. Enough for me to have a full second meal minus the sides. The pork was thinly pounded and kept it's crunch even doused in gravy. The gravy was rich and very delicious. My family got a mix of items like the philly cheese steak, flat iron steak salad, tavern salad, and chicken fried steak. For research purposes and for my loyal readers, I tried everything. There wasn't anything that was bad to me. We were full so desserts didn't happen on this trip. Overall, Gordon Street Tavern is a solid spot that I would happily return to if in the area.
