Jimmy has tailored a half a dozen suits for me in the past and I have always been completely satisfied with his work. Don't let the fact he works out of his home fool you. He was a head tailor at a large upscale department store in the city for decades and now does this in semi-retirement. So I was looking to get 3 suits tailored and was searching for a place as I've never done any major tailoring before. I gave Jimmy a try.... I don't normally write reviews but felt compelled to do so considering he did a great job, was fairly priced and very nice, and without a storefront and all that.... these reviews hold a lot of weight. I had 2 similar quality suits taken in at the torso, slimmed on the pants sleeves, jacket sleeves shortened and slimmed down. And he did a great job with the stitch work, can't tell it was altered. 3rd suit was a little more old school 3 piece I really liked and he had to do extra work on it. It's 3 button and needed to be shortened as well and he did all of this very well. Anyway, go with Jimmy. He's experienced, attentive and gave good suggestions as to how it should fit just right. Just so you understand clearly, Jimmy is now tailoring as a business out of his home... don't be put off by this. Jimmy is a master of his craft! I brought two expensive winter coats to him to be take in to a slimmer fit; he did such a good job with this alteration that I actually had to examine the coats close up and under light to see where the seam even was! Best tailor in Astoria/Queens...hands down! I have been using Jimmy for all of my alteration needs for the past year. Multiple times I have had him work on my bridesmaid dresses, skirts and suits for work. I always appreciate how friendly Jimmy and his family are when I am over. I have to wear suits 90% of the time at work, so over the past couple of years I have acquired a lot of expensive suits from Ann Taylor. Jimmy is the best tailor in Queens, possibly NYC. He's back open, and wears a mask and does as much as a tailor can do to protect his customers and himself in the Covid-19 era. Call in advance to make sure he'll be in the shop at the exact time you want (he's got a life and it's not a regular store), but he's NEVER said he wasn't available unless previously mentioned vacation. Jimmy has done work on my Vietnam era Navy winter wool coat passed down to me by a family friend. Tapered the waist and a re-cut and realigned the collar. It was a lot of work, and probably hard on the hands for manual needle work on such thick material, but it came out beautifully. He has also tapered and brought in the waist band on two pairs of dress pants. Also, brought in the waist band on two pairs of chinos. Jimmy has also done considerable work on an off the rack suit for me. I've also brought four shirts to be brought in at the waist with darts, though he doesn't usually do shirts- for anyone. One of these shirts, a ten year old super 170's Thomas Pink shirt that I've worn only once (haha...), needed the waist and sleeves brought in and darts on the back. You can stop reading now, call him, be polite. Don't be a douche and say he did great work but only give four stars. Like your candy ass can do better. Pricks. read more

Jimmy is the best! I brought in some pants that had some holes in it and also needed to be hemmed. I made an appointment with him and he took a really close look. He said the holes was something that he didn't think he could fix well but the hem was no problem. He did it really quick and for a good price. Oh Jimmy was the sweetest man ever! He runs his shop out of his house which was clean and looked newly renovated in the basement. You walk through his living room to the back where his bedroom/sewing room is located and he takes your measurements/alters your garment. My boyfriend and I visited him to alter my boyfriend's suit. It's difficult to express how great this man is at his craft. He used to be THE tailor at Saks 5th Ave, but now works out of his home, because he's still great at it and loves it. Jimmy is great. He made it clear when I went in he won't let anything he isn't happy with out of his apartment, which is the sign of a master craftsman. He mentioned how he does it all by hand and showed me some of the other suits he was working on. Basically, he is the real deal. Pleasure to talk to and a craftsman at work. I brought in 1 suit at first to see what I was getting. After having the pants hemmed and the jacket taken in quite a bit (and for what I feel is an extremely reasonable price esp when taking into account his experience and the fact that, as previously stated, he does it all by hand) I was quite impressed. When I first got here I was surprised to see that it was just a home driven business. Jimmy was with a customer so I got seeted in the cozy living room until Jimmy was available. Jimmy is a tailor for old men and stocky guys. I brought him three suit pants and he complained about the work he would need to do right off the bat. He charged me 55 a piece because tapering would be "very challenging". Despite the difficult challenge it posed, after only 3 days he was done. He called me to pick it up and kept telling me they looked great despite my apparent disappointment. lo and behold, 160 bucks later the pants look like baggy old man pants, not too impressed at all. Jimmy is a really friendly guy, and he does good work. Admittedly, my suit alteration was pretty simple, since I bought a suit that already fit fairly well. Jimmy did the alteration quickly and called me as soon as it was done. He did a thorough job measuring the suit before he started working and gave me time to try the suit on after he was done and before I paid him to see if the alteration had been done well. Jimmy is the real deal i.e. he is as good as everyone says he is. I brought a suit to him that another tailor has butchered (shoulders comically rode up when I moved my arms).
