Went here because my check gauges light was on, and I couldn't get information from anywhere else about why that was. Turned out I needed both my alternator and my computer replaced. I had other repairs done recently before this and this was the only shop that caught the alternator problem. They clearly communicated price in advance, were completely fair with their offer (I even called other places to check because I wasn't sure what a normal estimate was), and there was no surprises by the end. This is a long one but I'd read it before trusting this guy with your car. 1. I took car into Jim's on Jan 20th for the 1st time. He replaced the valve cover gaskets 101.25$, slave cylinder 38.25$, left front axle (control arm on that side is now bent but more on that later) 214.00$, wheel bearing 83.24$, power steering line 196.00$, shop supplies ( aka me paying for you to do business) 20.00$ total parts charge 652.74$. Somehow labor on this is 1,057.80$ but whatever. Total charges 1847.38$ on 1st visit. I received my car back on the 1st of February and wasn't really upset. Decent communication and moderate to high prices but not terrible. Total time at shop 12 days. 2. After about 3 weeks my car starts smoking, I call jims and they take the car the next day which is march 4th. 2 days later I get a call from Jim explaining that they have to remove and replace valve covers to repair cracks. This is a direct quote if labor description. I'm a bit upset but I understand. He quotes me around 400.00$ . I love this car and I agree to repairs because not much I can do and they seem legit. I don't hear back from them in a while so I give them a call on the 17th of March They tell me "oh yea your cars done". Turns out the car had been done on the 10th, I will admit they did call on the 10th but I didn't see it, no voicmail, no text no follow up call. I pick my car up on the 18th and the owners exact words were, "Oh i thought you already picked this up, I was on vacation. I admit i missed call but you should know whats cars are in your lot and a voicemail would have been bare minimum, total time in shop 15 days. 3. This is where it gets interesting. On April 7th I start my car on my way to work and it's billowing smoke out of the valve covers! I call Jims and I'm Pissed! Ove already paid this guy over 2 grand in 3 months so I'm heated. I will admit I was a bit out of line but this is getting ridiculous. I calm down and we get the car towed to jims. I call him that day to apologize for the way I spoke to him. I don't like treating people poorly but this was now affecting life in a major way. We speak on Sunday and he says I need new valve covers!! I'm mad but I understand, he says he's going to order the parts and take care of situation. Ok man I appreciate you trying to make good. It's getting to be a long time so I decide to call him April 30th, so he's had my car 3 weeks! I ask what's going on with my car and they tell me parts haven't come in yet! WHAT! Their excuse is that parts are comming from Massachusetts? So 300 miles in 3 weeks seems pretty doable. A quick reminder in these 3 weeks I haven't heard anything from them. 2 days later the owner calls and says parts have not been shipped and in his words we are back to square 1. I'm pissed and again ill admit I dressed this guy down. He says it's not his fault and he's not responsible. I explained to him he waited 3 weeks on a part and never checked in on it so yes he is responsible. By now I'm livid and rightfully so. After a bit of talking I calm down. He promises to get the part asap and we hang up. Jims calls me on the 5th and finally says your cars ready. Cool, I get done work, drop off my rental, grab an uber and realizing it's half hour before they close give them a call. No answer, now I'm in an uber and have no idea if someone will be there with my keys or receipt. I get to shop 15 minutes before they are supposed to close and guess what, they just decide to close early. I see my car and realize they left all doors unlocked in front of lot on ridge Ave. Thanks jims you left my car doors open, weren't there so I could get my keys and wasted my time plus another 120$ in uber fees! Next day I come in and I'm pissed! I want my keys, receipts an explanation for why been just decided to close early. Needless to say we get into it, he tryst to refuse me my paperwork saying he's going toail it to me. I can't trust this guy to remember what cars he has in the lot, what parts he has coming or even to remember to lock car doors, now he wants me to believe he's gonna remember to email me, no way. He asks why I'm so upset, here's your answer jim. From January 20th to May 6th 2022 that's 106 days you have had my car for 57 days you have charged me 2261.34$ charged for repairs, you have cost me close to 1500$ in car rentals. You put garbage valve covers on my car and all and all you have done a horrible job. Feel free to refute any of this but I will be reporting you to better business bureau along with a filing in small claims court. That's my Jim's auto experience. Use at your own risk. read more

A tire ruptured while I was out running errands at night. I left my car on the street and decided to come back the next day and drive it to the nearest mechanic. I found Jim's - which was the closest shop near my car. I called, and was told to bring my car in. I was actually very surprised that I was able to be seen the same day. I was also very surprised that they had my tire in stock! I literally thought this process would take hours and that they would have to order my tire, yada, yada...They got me out in 30 min - and ended up having to change 2 tires! I was so happy. I was extremely stressed about the whole tire situation and how it was going to impact my day and boom, I'm in and out! They also texted the following day to check in and make sure that I had no issues with the work done. I will definitely be bringing my car there for future work if needed. Great service! read more

Why do I keep doing this to myself. Pep Boys sent us over $100 in savings and I decided against that. I figured with the state of the world I'm going to continue to support local business and help out our community. I've had Jim's work on 4 different vehicles I've owned over the past 5 years. Every time something different bad has happened, I don't know why but I KEEP GOING BACK. I guess I'm a gluten for punishment but this time was the last- I will never spend another penny at this place and Jim- close up shop. You've had a hiring mechanics sign out forever, you've tried to send coupons, you've tried to make phone calls to get business, clearly it's not going well... What happened? I called 2 weeks in advance to get an appointment for brakes and to diagnose an AC issue... They made me wait 2 weeks. Took the vehicle in at 7:03AM on Tuesday.... No phone calls until I called at 4:30PM requesting to talk to Jim the owner. The owner gives me some piss poor excuse as he speaks down to me and tried to make me feel like an idiot and tell me that it just takes a lot of time to diagnose a vehicle... a day and a half to check and A/C and breaks, give me a break He says my mechanics leave at 5PM today so I guess we'll get to it tomorrow (oh cool we were planning on not having a vehicle for two days thanks for communicating.) The next day he calls at 10:30AM and tells us it's going to cost over $850 to get rear brakes and rotors and to replace something with the AC plus all the time it took to diagnose. Called Pep boys and they'll do it for nearly $350 cheaper This shop is a joke. It's 2021 COMMUNICATE BETTER there really is no excuse. Don't lie to your customers... be honest tell me you didn't prioritize a customer that's waited weeks and put other people before them and didn't manage time well. Or it seems like you just don't have enough mechanics, either way, not my problem. I should be able to make an informed decision to not go here if you were honest and said you were busy or couldn't get to us. Again, done. I called the shop and they had the nerve to tell me I can bring it back but they wont be able to fix it today. What kind of shit is that I had to end up going to Pep Boys. I first called on a Saturday to get an appointment. They said come in Monday morning. I came in at 9 and told the gentleman, Jim, that I was told to come I. He responds with "and". So rude. I explain my issue - car won't start when the button is pushed. I saw online it was probably the break switch, which I mentioned. He defensively said "well how do you know that?" This should have been my first red flag. He then said they'd call and give me an estimate. 2 hours - I call he assured me he'd call when he knew. 3.5 more hours (5 total) I call back and he's even more rude "The part just got here I'll call you back when I know more of a price. It's not like he hasn't been working on it all day. He hasn't been sitting on his hands". Turns out it was the break switch. I got zero call about a price. The price is $226 when online most estimates show $100. After all the switch itself is $26 on Amazon. The rude service and price gouging are what you can expect with Jim. I'll never go back Here's my reply to yours: No you're not being honest. You called once to say the car was ready - never to confirm the price prior to work being done - which is what i asked for in my 11:30 phone call. That's what I asked for. I wish I would have just changed the part myself. It's a simple 10 minute fix that would have saved me this headache. Loosening two screws and swapping out a switch that's exposed is not worth the cost you all charged. That's the price gouging I spoke of. read more

He did rotors without asking me first and was all around the worst auto experience I've ever had. I wasn't aware this place had diamond encrusted gold brake pads for that price.Truly the worst place I've been to. I recommend totaling your car instead of bringing it there. I have used Jim's Auto for many years. He provides good service and repair and, most importantly, he does not try to add on additional work. He gives an honest opinion about what should be done right now and what can wait. I have taken cars to other places over the years because of convenience at nights or weekends and have often felt like the other places are trying to pile on additional charges with repairs that are not needed. I never felt that way at Jim's Auto. I highly recommend them for straightforward good, honest work at a fair price. read more
