Absolutely amazing dinner. From the start with service being top notch they made you feel important. The Brittany dressing on my salad was wonderful. The rolls were soft and wonderful. 9 of us met for dinner and were looking forward to eating here since we had had great experiences at the Bloomington restaurant. But this restaurant was a big disappointment. The service was terrible, the meat served to several of us was over cooked and or cold. She forgot some of our side dishes and we had to ask for them. After dinner we went to the bar to hear the piano player, but there was no bartender around, and dirty glasses all over the room. I have to say I came away extremely impressed with this restaurant. My wife and I dined here on Valentine's Day. We both enjoyed immensely the service, food, and environment. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to budget conscious individual, but I would say it is a must try at least once kind of place. I expected to enjoy a good meal, but came away with an "Experience." We had reservations for large group at Jim's last Saturday after my daughters college graduation. When we walked in I initially thought the place was very nice but as soon as we met our server my opinion changed. I found her to be very rude . The restaurant was full of families after the ceremony including ours. We asked if they had a children's menu and was given a response with an attitude like we were the dumbest people on the planet. We have a special needs daughter with a very limited palette. We saw the pasta on the menu and asked if she could just get plain buttered noodles . What she failed to mention was those plain butter noodles would be $17. Her attitude in general was felt by out entire group, very condescending and not friendly. Went to Jim's with extended family. We selected Jim's not just for the memorable food but in the past we all felt there was so much attention to detail. The salads and rolls were fresh, steaks cooked to order and as good as one would expect from a fine steakhouse. Also appreciated all the side options. Hmm, the details: the dessert cart was sitting by the entrance uncovered-didn't seem sanitary, we ordered wine by the glass yet the glasses on the table weren't removed so in order to make room we moved them to the end of our table. When the waitress or busboy didn't take them away we asked if they could be removed and the busboy moved them all onto a vacant chair at our table. And finally, fine dimly lit restaurants should provide penlights upon request of visitors comments that they can't see the menu. read more

My husband and I went to Jim's steakhouse and had a wonderful time. I had the filet and crab and my husband had bone in filet with side of crab. You also have to try the twice baked pot. they are the best. The crab is huge best in town the steaks were cooked to perfection. We will be back. The service and bar was great as well. Steaks are a tough business for the last couple of years. It is hard to get a really good one anywhere. Sorry to say, Jim's Steakhouse is not a place to get a good steak anymore. To quote Tim Comfort, the owner, his father got better Choice steaks than the so-called Prime steaks that his vendor is selling to him now (Nov 2011). I ended up with one of those bad steaks that come along every once in a while. It happens. We've been to Jim's many times in the last 6 years and you never know what you are going to get any more. But, the really sad part is the strip steak that my wife got. The top was burned. When she mentioned this to the waiter (Tom), he said, Oh, yeah, I noticed that in the kitchen before I brought it out (!). He didn't offer to do anything about it. Just bizarre! We have been frequenting other restaurants in Peoria and I guess that we will continue to limit our trips to Jim's until the quality of steaks comes back. read more

The restaurant is an old school steakhouse with large chunks of meat, huge sides, and a loud atmosphere. It was a great throwback to another generation in that sense. My Ribeye was cooked to perfection and was exceptional. The salad was a very large salad plate and was oddly put together. It included peas, cabbage, lettuce, and green onions. But they werent mixed together, even though the dressing was poured over the entire salad. It was strange. But then again, I dont go to a steakhouse for the salad! Our drinks were decent enough, though my Manhattan was not mixed or shaken before it was poured into the glass, which makes for a strange tasting drink. First time to Peoria so I decided to Yelp for dinner. Even though Jim's appeared in the bottom half of the top 10, it was worth the visit and in my opinion should be #1! The decor is 80's old school school which completely adds to the ambience. I had a rare filet, Cesar salad and very dirty martini. All were impeccable. I liked this place much better before it moved downtown...seemed much more open and appealing before. They try so hard to be a traditional steakhouse from days past but Im afraid their days HAVE past. Not sure why anyone would want to go to the trouble to hassle with going downtown in the evening...its not like you are in Chicago or Boston or San Diego afterall. Being in downtown Peoria after dark isnt really a plus if you ask me. The steaks are so so...not sure what the quality of the meat is rated at although they offer huge portions if thats what you are into. Someone needs to explain what a salad is meant to be...its not supposed to be an afterthought because you HAVE to provide one. I would rather pony up another $4 for something I really enjoy having. All across Europe they have figured out salad and they often eat it after dinner. I have been going here for years and all good. But last night we had a bad experience. The place was incredibly noisy. We couldn't hear each other talk. My ears rang when I got back outside. The food was not good. My husband had beef stroganoff that tasted like uncooked noodles. I ordered the rib eye medium and he brought a filet well done. He said he wouldn't charge me the extra amount if I would eat it instead. So I did. I had green beans--also tasteless. I love green beans but didn't like these. My wife and I went to Jim's last night for our anniversary. We've eaten the several times before and always had fantastic meals. As a previous reviewer noted, the staff is mostly college students. Since Bradley just started the year, this was a fresh bunch and it showed. My wife and I ordered the Britney salad and it came out tasting like a blob of mayo was dumped on it. Then we got the Beef and Bleu, which we've enjoyed before. It came out glob bed in more than two cups of gravy. I was stunned! It was the saltiest mess that the could have served. It didn't bother to complain because the staff didn't seem to care anyways. We finished our meals and left. We ventured to French Toast in The Heights to get deserts and coffee. We just couldn't order anymore food from Jim's. It felt like a scene from Caddyshack. "Go tell the Chef that this is low grade dog food.". We won't be going back again. read more

We had a 7PM reservation at this restaurant on 5/18/19. I will make this long disappointing story as short as I can. All 6 of us arrived at 7. The hostess told us we would be seated soon. I asked how long. She said 20 minutes. We were finally seated at about 8 PM. To compensate for our wait, we were told to order appetizers . Nice gesture. Our order for dinner was finally taken; we were not served dinner until past 9 PM. THE FOOD WAS JUST OK, NOTHING SPECIAL, IN MY OPINION. However, this rating is not about the food, but is about the poor planning on the part of the bistro and lack of caring about the patron. The restaurant was busy but when we expressed a complaint about the poor service, we were told that the manager was out with his family having dinner with his family and not available. He did call my daughter the next day. The bottom line is that he will send her a check for $100 against a $250 dinner. In my opinion, the whole meal should have been comped. Jim's used to be a great restaurant. Sadly, its not anymore. The decor speaks of a great, old steakhouse. The place is as worn out as the chairs. The staff seemed to be annoyed by having to work and were shouting at each other. They made us feel rushed, which should never happen at a fine steakhouse. The tables are so crammed in, I could have reached the butter on the adjacent table easier than on my own. The steaks were adequate but not stellar. I certainly wasn't expecting gravy on a filet mignon. The potatoes were apparently left over from the day before. I've had better meals at Longhorn for a fraction of the price. This restaurant lives on pretension. It wants to offer a premier dining experience, so it charges premium prices and tries to appear as if it is part of the upper crust. If you want good food, however, this is the last place to go in Peoria. A number of chain restaurants offer better steak than Jim's does. In fact, the ribeye I was served could have just as easily come from Lone Star or Texas Roadhouse. Others in our party ordered mashed potatoes. If you like tremendously over-salted Playdoh for your mashed, Jim's can serve it to you. Another reviewer mentioned the excessive quantities of dressings and the like. I suspect that Jim's feels that this gives it distinction, but instead it makes the experience more like going to an all-you-can-eat buffet. Steer clear of this restaurant and save yourself the disappointment and the tremendous expense. read more
