I had one of the worst restaurant experiences of my life at Jim's shitsro....oops I mean Bistro. First off, the waitress told me the salad would be a small upcharge. Fine, whatever. Then the bill comes and the "small upcharge" is $12 freaking dollars for a basic salad. That's not a small upcharge -- that's straight-up misleading. Then the steak arrived. I ordered medium rare. What I got was the rarest, most charred steak I've ever seen. Somehow it was burnt to hell on the outside and practically raw in the middle. For a place that tries to present itself as a steakhouse, the quality was honestly embarrassing. Overpriced, poorly cooked food and misleading pricing. I've had better steaks at chain restaurants for half the price. Save your money and go literally anywhere else. 1/5 -- never coming back. read more

Crab cakes from @ were excellent!! They fell apart, perfect cooked, with crispy edges topped with a sweet chili sauce! I also got a steak and mashed potatoes and they were divine. We started with a delicious cold fresh shrimp cocktail. Linda split a wedge salad for us with lots of blue cheese and bacon crumbles. Went for dinner a few weeks ago. We waited 35 - 40+ minutes for our food. When we asked about it, some guy with the name stating with D came out. Told us we should expect to wait for food when a restaurant is busy. We heard another table talk about how they couldn't get the food out. Other restaurants don't have that problem. He offered no apology. In fact, he laughed at us. A total jerk. The ribs tasted like old meat and the "garlic" bread was just oil poured over bread. The drink order was wrong. This place does not follow through with anything they say, and they just lie to us. We made a later reservation for New Years Eve with our kids. Nice calm, chill place. We get in the door to hear the server dropping the F word. Then the hostess comes up and asks what we need. We let her know we have a reservation and she says she will be back with a book. After 15 mins of browsing the restaurant looking nervous she comes back with no "book"' and offers to let our 6 and 9 year old sit at the bar. We decline, and she tells us how they spaced 20 mins between reservations. I called her out for lying and she didn't say another word. My wife talked to the owner and then we waited another 15 mins before they were 30 mins late with no sign of any table leaving soon. We finally threw in the towel. I get tables go over and stuff happens. Communication is key and showing a little remorse might go a long way as well. I won't step foot in this place again and hope anyone else who goes here gets what they are told. As I've seen in other reviews and my experience, doesn't seem likely here. read more

We live in Monmouth, Illinois. We drove to Jim's bistro tonight.. for Jim's lasagna. We have went there just for this for years.. anniversary birthdays. The price has increased to $31. that includes bread and salad.. that is fine. We expected the $31.00. Tonight it was terrible. The pasta was overcooked very soft and mushy. In the past, there was a lot of meat.. there was maybe two small meatballs in it tonight. And to top it off, it was barely warm. We were enough, disappointed that there are so many places in Peoria.. This place was seriously mid. Maybe even sub-par. Presentation was poor on some of our dishes. The crab cakes were recommended and were not very good. Many of our items were overcooked to the stage of crispy (and slightly burned). Server was maybe not having a great evening and could have been more gracious and kind. Hostess was extremely helpful and polite. And even moved chairs around to make the table more accommodating. She gets 5 stars. Everything else was disappointing. Do not listen to the previous posters with negative reviews. Honestly, we live out of town and go out of our way to be there on Sunday evenings. Not only is the food excellent but the staff is so kind and solicitous and the vibe is outstanding. You feel special from the moment you arrive. The bartender is old school fabulous. Our choice- Vodka Martini's up with a twist and they are smoother than silk. But since we frequently sit at the bar, we love to watch him craft classics like an old fashioned, Paloma, and Rob Roy. We usually start with an appetizer - Calamari or Oysters Rockefeller. Both are phenomenal. I order a house salad with house dressing and my husband orders the wedge and then we each order Dauphinoise potatoes with our filet entrees (unless he orders the Lasagna or chicken). The beef filet's are outstanding and my husband raves about the Lasagna and the Fried Chicken special on Sundays. I wouldn't know- I stick with a medium rare Filet- Pittsburghed and I don't care to taste anything else. Period. for dessert, we always order cake- either lemon or chocolate both of which are made by nearby Traefzger's Bakery and truly, it's such an amazing treat. We both leave with a to-go bag and eat the leftovers the following evening. Jim's Bistro offers up the best experience every single time and we are there almost every weekend. I have never had bad service or bad food. I know they lost their lamb distributor during COVID and, formerly, that was a frequent selection but in 2021 it's largely been beef filet or bust. You just cannot get that grade of beef just anywhere and since we eat fish or seafood most other nights, this Sunday meal (and Monday's leftovers) are a splurge. Financially, we each get two meals each out of it so we reason it a good buy. Honestly, we have not been able to go this month yet and I am just salivating while remembering how great the food is. Had to get the menus ourselves and 3 of our burgers we ordered medium, came well done. Definitely not the place for burgers. We were visiting from Florida and went to Jim's Bistro. Our two friends ordered Rib eyes for $46 ,my wife who loves steaks ordered one also. When they brought the steaks they all started eating two steaks wer good but my wife's was very fatty. I informed the owners son othe issue, he said" I'll see what I can do and left. When the checks came he was no where to be seen ,so I asked the waitress to please get him form. When he arrived he gave some feeble excuse and said he could do nothing. Three of us arrived early for dinner so we sat at the bar. Service and drinks were perfect from our bartender. For dinner I had the trout because I wanted something light. It was breaded more than I expected. The broccoli they served could have fed a small country! It did not have any seasoning but was cooked perfectly- just a little crunchy. Wow. I went here on Monday because many places were closed and there seemed to be a happy crowd outside of this place. I had no expectations at all but I was blown away. This place is cute, I loved the inside with the dim lighting and candles on the table. I got the apricot teriyaki duck and wasabi mashed potatoes and oh my god it was amazing!! In order to support a small business during Illinois' Tier 3 COVID-19 restrictions, I ordered 2 takeout meals from Jim's Bistro on Dec 4. When picking up my order, I noticed several indoor tables were occupied, as well as 3 people sitting at the indoor bar. None of the patrons were masked. Indoor dining is prohibited at this time during Tier 3 restrictions. Allowing indoor dining is also unfair to other restaurants who are following the Tier 3 mandate. I informed the on-site manager that I would not support a business in open violation of COVID restrictions. read more

I love Jim's Bistro. I've checked Quickbooks and I've spent over $3000 in the last 18 months at Jim's Bistro. Tonight I discovered that a restaurant charging $50+ for a steak and $30 for lasagna decided it wasn't enough and needed to start charging customer a 3.5% up charge for the privilege of processing a credit card / debit card to pay for the exorbitant meal. News flash, that's more than the fees charged for processing. How do I know? I owned a coffee / sandwich shop that had 65% of their business paid for digitally. What didn't I do? Charge my customers for the privilege of paying for my product, and I didn't have anything that cost $50.00 on the menu. So, as much as I truly love the food, the $3.80 they took from me means they will lose the next $3k. Hopefully everyone reading this will do the same thing for the next 30 days - and the value of digital payment will become crystal clear. Last, I asked r server about the charge and her answer was "it's posted on the door" (it's not, I checked on the way out) and "the owner is standing there, you can tell him" - I opted to make a bigger impact by persuading others to boycott for a limited time. read more
